Keep It Cold: Puff pastry rises due to the steam created by the layers of butter, so it’s essential to keep it cold while working. If the dough becomes too warm, the butter may melt, resulting in less rise and flakiness. Work quickly, and if the dough gets too soft, pop it back into the fridge for a few minutes to firm up.

Avoid Overhandling: Handle the pastry as little as possible to maintain the delicate layers. Overworking it can compress the layers and prevent it from puffing up properly. Use a light touch when rolling, shaping, and cutting.

Ensure Even Rolling: Roll out the dough evenly to avoid some sections rising more than others. Always roll in one direction and avoid stretching the dough, which can lead to uneven texture and shape during baking. A light dusting of flour helps prevent sticking but use sparingly to keep the dough delicate.

The Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cinnadust is found in the same aisle as the rest of the seasonings.  If you aren’t able to find it, simply mix 1 teaspoon sugar with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.

For best results, defrost your puff pastry in the refrigerator.  Please note though that the puff pastry can’t be frozen again once defrosted.  But it should be fine in your refrigerator for up to 10 days.

Easy Apple Danish

Yield: 4 danishes
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes

You do not need any baking skill to make these easy apple danishes. If you can turn on a stove and slice an apple - that's all you need!

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry (168 grams), defrosted
  • 1 large apple, sliced thin
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon sugar (I use Cinnadust)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar free apricot jam, melted
  • 1 teaspoon powdered sugar
  • 1 egg yolk + 1/2 teaspoon water for egg wash

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350.
  2. Slice each sheet of puff pastry in half.
  3. Lay the apples diagonally across the pastry.
  4. Brush the melted jam over the apples.
  5. Brush the pastry with the egg wash.
  6. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

On the regular WW plan, each danish is 6 WW points. On the diabetic plan, it's 7 WW points.
