I think my computer glitch yesterday was as simple as not shutting down my desk top š I can’t remember the last time I rebooted it or shut it down, but now everything seems to be working. I had about 10 minutes to spare yesterday morning and instead of jumping on Facebook, I took a 10 minute walk – low 60’s and foggy. It was so refreshing and just a reminder that hey, I could probably get up 30 minutes earlier and get a 30 minute walk in before I start my day.
There is a tiny coffee shop across the street from my train station. I keep forgetting to buy creamer for home, so I popped in for a cup of coffee. This place is so eclectic – he’s got a piano in there, leather couches, he has booths for breakfast or lunch, and then he turns into a bar at 5:00. Anywho, he’s trying out a new bakery and he had free samples, and while I waited for my coffee, I ate the equivalent of half a muffin – 6 points worth! It was good, but not on my plan.
Which is why my breakfast baked potato turned into an egg wrap. Two ounces of baked potato scrambled with egg whites and topped with a tablespoon of bacon bits, with fruit on the side. 4 points, so my TOTAL breakfast was 10.
I was solo on my walk yesterday – my sister had a lunch to go to. As I was crossing Michigan Avenue, I saw this sign and was like “yeah, that’s happening!” Lerd, if you ever come to Chicago, get this popcorn. I paid $.76 with tax for a small back of their caramel/cheese popcorn combo. It turned out to be a blessing, because as I was walking I could feel my blood sugar dropping. I ate half of the two cup bag for 5 points. When I got back to my desk my blood sugar was 62, so it must have been low! I gave the second half of the bag away – otherwise I knew I would eat the rest of it on the train ride home.
I could eat this wrap below every day and not get sick of it. Lavash wrap, Italian deli turkey (so flavorful!) romaine and lots of Dijon mustard, with 1/2 ounce of chips and salsa that I picked up for $1 at Qdoba. I also pickled some cucumbers so they were so spicy good.
The fog came back when it was time to come home. I didn’t have to work late which was nice.
As luck would have it, Hannah made dinner for Jacob – keto meatballs – the only thing that makes them keto vs. paleo is that she used almond flour and eggs as a binder and used Parmesan cheese – I think paleo you can’t have cheese? I can’t keep up with their diet changes, but all I know is that I cut one meatball (4 ounces) sliced it and put it on a Healthy Life hot dog bun and dinner was delish. I am calling this 8 points to be on the safe side.
A couple of Hannah and Jacob’s friends came over and we played banana grams – such a fun game with lots of laughs.
I am doing a 5k after work today! Our office is participating in a 5k – I think 40 of us are doing it. One of my co-workers is killing it on Weight Watchers – she’s lost 80 pounds in the last year. This is her first 5k race, so I told her our only goal is to finish it. If she wants to jog a minute, walk a minute, walk the whole thing – whatever, I’ll help her get to the finish line. Should be fun!
If you have time – can you show me some love over at The Chopping Block? My Apple Fritter Muffins turned out amazing if I say so myself š
Make it a great day!
It feels like forever since I have read your blog. Recovery from the hurricane has left us without internet service. For the moment it is on so I had to pop in and see what is going on. Good luck on the 5k. Heading over to check out the CB blog.
Kym! I am so glad you are okay! I think my parents in law are still without power, but so happy they didn’t have much damage at all, other than a few tiles. I need to text you – hugs!!
You should shut down your computer every day (or at least once a week) so that it can automatically update itself. My hubby’s an IT director–so I get lectures on this. LOL! I can’t keep track of paleo/keto/Atkins, etc. I just try (TRY) to eat healthy and eat real food. I don’t like cutting any food group out of my diet … just doesn’t feel right to me/my body and, plus, it’s too much to manage/remember/re-do recipes over. I’m sure they all have their pluses & minuses. Good luck on your 5k–I still haven’t been brave enough to sign up for one yet!
Hey – thanks for the tip, I need to remember to shut the computer down š
I know once I say no carbs or anything like that, that’s all I crave!
I walked/jogged it in 45 minutes – certainly not fast, but I finished!
Have fun at the 5K – love that so many people from your office are doing it, and it is always so rewarding to help a new runner get through their first race. š
Thanks Shelley! It was so much fun š
Great job on the walk. I have been a complete and utter slug all week. I did better last week after that crazy race! Insomnia is killing me this week. I ran a 10k on Sunday, walked to the bank on Monday (1.7 miles)…and that’s it.
Alarm went off Tues/Thurs at 4:40 for the pool, turned it off. I didn’t get up until 7:10 today. I’m supposed to be at work 7:30 on Thurs. Oops. Weds didn’t wake up until 6 something. Walked the kids to school – got 2/3 of the way up the hill, so maybe 0.3 miles. And I realize that my Nick is scootering without his backpack. NICK!! He gives me the look and says “MOMMY!” Like it’s my job to remember his backpack.
So I told him I’d go back and get it after getting Daniel dropped at kindergarten AND through his parent participation day (so, 10 am). He threw down the scooter and said “I’ll go get it!” “How are you getting in?” “I have a KEY…in my backpa…”
Yeah so I turned around with Daniel, got the backpack and drove it to school. So much for my walk. I don’t think 0.6 miles counts. I was about to walk for 30 min yesterday afternoon and someone snagged me into a meeting.
TODAY. I will walk at lunch. Have to, meeting some moms for Mom’s night out.
I am exhausted just reading this comment Marcia! For the record, I’d have a hard time getting up that early too. I used to take the early train to work, but realized when I did that, even though I wasn’t clocked in yet (like 30 minutes early) my bosses would see me and start giving me work.
Now I get to my desk at 9:00 a.m. and now realize I have time to get more walking in around downtown š
You are correct, no cheese in Paleo. What I can’t figure out is the difference between low carb/Atkins and Keto. Keto has become all the rage around here – there was even a Keto festival held in my downtown. I’m just thinking it’s the newest diet rage.
That’s great participation from your office on that 5K. Have fun!
I can’t figure out Keto either – other than it’s low carb, high fat and high protein. I had no idea the race was going to be so big! I think there were about 5000 runners š
Good luck on your 5k! I have a 5k this weekend that I really hope doesn’t get rained out!
Good luck this weekend – fingers crossed that the weather holds out! š
Hi Biz, I still read your posts on my reader on my phone, but it’s all but impossible for me to comment there. So since I’m reading this on a computer, I wanted to tell you that I’m still here… š
I love how creative you got with your breakfast after the unplanned sampling!
Good luck with the 5k! And I’ll make sure to stop by the Chopping Block blog now.
Thanks Andrea!! I so appreciate it – every time I see your posts on Instagram with your fashion style, I wish you were my next door neighbor and give me advice before I leave the house š Hugs!
