Some holidays I think are just made up. I didn’t even know it was Professional Secretary Day yesterday, until I got to work and my co-worker heard it on the radio.
I had brought my breakfast, but when I got there, my boss and brought in a shit ton of food.
Icing coated croissants, sugar cookies, angel food cake, whip cream and apricot jelly. I think even though working for her for nearly 10 years that she forgets I am diabetic. No worries! I helped myself to the fruit! And it was a nice gesture.
I went ahead and had the breakfast I made before work yesterday. I cut up 3/4 cup of sweet potatoes, diced them up and put then in a pan with some water and let them cook while I took a shower – about 7 minutes. I took them out of the pan, wiped it dry and then seared off 2 ounces of leftover steak. Then I fried one egg, and put all of that in a container. I had leftover diced red pepper, so I tossed that in my bag, along with some Cabot extra sharp cheese, and some sour cream. When I got to work – it was time to assemble my nachos! I used Tostitos whole grain scoops as the base.
I just divided the steak, egg and sweet potato in each cup, topped it with a few pieces of shredded cheese, then put it in the toaster oven under broiler for about 5 minutes. Once they came out, topped them with the sour cream, red pepper, hot sauce and cilantro. Such a colorful plate of food! These were super filling too – #nomnom!
Another busy day at work and before I knew it, it was time to hit up the gym. I ended up doing a glute workout on the arc trainer for 40 minutes while watching The Chew. My Mom got me these socks for my birthday – I love them! They have extra padding in the heel part – that seems to be the first part that wears out on my socks since my feet are a size and a half different.
And I wore another shirt Hannah got me for my birthday. Thanks Hannah! It actually motivated me to work out harder yesterday.
During my workout I got a snap chat from Joe – I know it’s either going to be one of their dogs or the weather – yep – it was the weather! We didn’t make it to 50 degrees yesterday.
And I’ll give you another episode of Texting with Tony! He’s so sweet!
I forgot I had brought home some broccoli cheddar soup from the restaurant last week. It still smelled good, so I tossed in about 1/2 a cup of cooked egg noodles and topped it with some chopped cilantro that was leftover from breakfast. I puffy heart cilantro!
I can’t believe I am about to say this, but this soup was actually too cheesy for me! I couldn’t taste the broccoli at all. This ended up sitting in my stomach like a rock the rest of the afternoon.
It was another busy day at work, but I have to say, I have enjoyed having work to do all day long – I’ll miss it once they hire a new assistant! I was walking around so much that in the afternoon I was thinking about what I could cook for dinner, when I suddenly came to the realization that I didn’t want to cook at all. What?!
So sammies it was! I had leftover turkey breast from the weekend, I had bacon, deli Italian beef, lettuce, tomato – club sandwiches it was! My Mom brought me this garlic mustard from her trip in Key West – she knows I loves my mustards! They went to a hot dog place there and they had about a dozen different mustards. This one is delish! And it absolutely made my sammie.
There may have been some crunchy Cheetos served with this sammie. Just sayin.
No problem getting my 10,000 steps in! I just realized I have 9 messages on Fitbit! I’ll have to check those out.
Alright, I am off to cook some lemon poppy seed pancakes for breakfast – loosely based off of Tieghan’s recipe – do you read Half Baked Harvest? No?! Go now – she has the longest food titles that crack me up and all of her food is food porn! Make it a great day!
You motivate me everyday with your exercise and good eating. I would love to be fitbit friends!!!
I just sent you an email invite B!
Joe is awesome! Love him. 🙂 As I do your shirt – Hannah is also awesome. 🙂 As are you, you amazing administrative professional!
Thanks V! I can’t believe how big Joshua is getting already!
I went to the middle school yesterday and covered the office so the secretaries could all go to lunch together – fun to be back “working” in a school for a couple hours!!
What a great idea Kim!
You have a new thingy on your blog….Foodieblogroll…it’s playing some icky music? How do I shut it off??? Well, I have the earphones plugged in. Oh good, it finally stopped.
Anyways….that samie looks really good, I have been having quite a lot of those days where I don’t feel like cooking lately. I hope it is just a seasonal thing for now.
How does that fitbit work….how does it count your steps, is it connected to your feet somehow? I have a little sportline step counter that I put on my shoe….I am thinking I need to get out and walk more or go shopping more just so I can get my steps in. Oh well, with spring and summer coming, maybe I will be out walking more. It was in the 40’s today and rain…..but I still hit a few stores and got some steps.
When I was working as a secretary, the bosses took us out and gave us flowers….we did the same for our bosses on Bosses day…..it was always fun. Have a great day!!!
Okay – thank you! I had no idea where the music was coming from!! I’ll have to check that out.
Tony bought my fitbit at Best Buy – it’s $60. It is a small device that just clips on my pants. It measures each step, the goal being 10,000 steps daily. It’s harder than you think to walk that much! The cool this is that I have the app on my phone – if I am close to the target, it sends me a text to get moving because I am almost at my goal!
Hi Randi – this is Biz’s mom. I got the mustard at a hot dog stand near the waterfront where all the excursion boats were docked. It was close to the KW keylime pie store
Thanks Momma! Hope you are feeling better! I love you! 😀
I love mustard too and we were just in Key West. Didn’t even see that store. I did buy some really nice spice blends at Key West Spice Co. How can your boss not know you’re diabetic? Doesn’t she ever see you test your sugar?
She knows Randi, she just doesn’t pay attention! Did you see my Mom’s comment below? You’ll have to check it out the next time you and Julie go to KW!
I heart Tony. 🙂
I give you credit for sticking to just the fruit. That can’t be easy!
Actually I am fine with sweet stuff around, I don’t have much of a sweet tooth – however, if it were chips, pretzels or cheese that would have been harder for me!
Hey Biz! I didn’t know you liked mustard so much, but that totally clinches it, you have to come up to Madison to visit the Mustard Museum! They sell about 500 mustards.
They even have a mustard celebration on National Mustard Day, this year it’s August 2, 2014. We went last year, they’ve got free hot dogs, mustard samples (usually great local brands), music, bouncy house for the kids, games/activities, and even mustard-flavored frozen custard (ice cream). The mustard frozen custard is actually pretty decent, the ribbon of caramel really helps give variety so it’s not just a solid mustard flavor.
Hey Jessica – guess what? I’ve already been there! When Tony worked for a company in Wisconsin I tagged along on an overnight trip. I kept telling him about that museum, but he said it was too far out of the way, so I just thought – another time!
Next thing I know we are pulling up next to it – is that love or what?! He bought a shirt that says “Poupon U.” and it makes me smile every time I take it out of the dryer to fold it.
My father-in-law has a Poupon U sweatshirt. 🙂
Did you go to the one way out in the tiny little town of Mount Horeb? Or the new version that they moved to Middleton/Madison? I haven’t been in the new one yet, not really tons of interest in going to the mustard museum too often!
I work for three guys. No acknowledgement here either.
That’s too bad Wendy! I am sure you do a great job! 😀
That’s ok. I don’t acknowledge Boss’s Day either.
Did you know there is a Bosses Day, too? Sigh. The whole thing is silly, but boy have I seen some feelings get hurt when these “special” days aren’t acknowledged.
Yep, well aware of bosses day – my boss reminds me – ha!
I agree about the Administrative whatever day. I too didn’t even know it was that until I went to our billing department and one of the ladies there said it. It has never been recognized around here which is fine by me. I suppose a gesture would be nice but I’m not insulted that it doesn’t happen.
I wish you could find some sort of shoe swap group of folks who need different sizes – would it be cool to have shoes that actually fit your feet?
That would be nice – but how hard would it be to find someone who not only has the opposite problem, but the same taste in shoes?! Happy Friday!
It was secretary’s day last Thursday here. My manager got me flowers but he doesn’t have to do that. It’s a commercial thing. Other people don’t have their own day either.
That’s so sweet of Tony.
If you can do the job easily on your own I would tell them that it’s not really necessary to hire a new assistant or maybe a parttimer. Stand up for yourself! It seems you enjoy your day job at the moment so much more now you have more to do. Try to stick to that and talk about it with your bosses.
While that’s a good idea Fran, with only two people here neither one of us could take a day off because you can’t just have one person here for everyone. The new person starts in a week and a half, so I’ll enjoy my busy time until then!
Ooops. I messed up on the email address when I posted the above comment.
Would you really be able to tell by the smell if broccoli cheddar soup was bad? You are such a brave lady. My husband is like that… if it smells okay he will eat it. I always forget about the breakfast nachos. I really must try them. Your Texting with Tony post are so cute. You never know what to expect from the two of you 🙂 Off to read Half Baked Harvest right now.
I am actually not sure Kim, maybe the milk in the soup would turn and make it smell bad if it wasn’t good? OMG, you will LOVE half baked harvest – she’s so creative!
