THANK YOU! For all the warm birthday wishes yesterday. I was with you guys. Tony emailed me his blog post and I got all teary eyed reading it at my desk. The best part? He tells me he loves me every.single.day. Not a day goes by where he doesn’t tell me I am beautiful just the way I am, and that he couldn’t imagine his life without me. I feel the same way, so it’s a win win!
So yesterday morning I get up and do my normal routine. Fix a cup of coffee, a tall glass of lemon water and I go to the computer. I see that there are birthday cakes for the letters of GOOGLE and my first thought was “I wonder what famous persons birthday is the same as mine?!”
Um, that would be me! That kind of freaked me out just a bit though. I guess somewhere on Google or gmail I have my birth date – kind of big brotherish though if you ask me!
My co-worker J brought in bagels for my birthday. I can’t remember the last time I had one – so good! I had the asiago. Since I knew I was going to work out at lunch, I adjusted the amount of insulin and ate the bagel. About 30 minutes before working out I checked my blood sugar – it was 402! Yikes! Well, it was my own fault – I get email from other diabetics who think they can’t eat a bagel anymore because they are diabetic. Had I had an egg on that (protein) or more cream cheese, that would have prevented the huge spike in my sugars. I took some fast acting insulin and then went to the gym.
On Tuesday I talked about my 30 day challenge to do 100 flights of stairs on the Stair Master in 20 minutes. Monday I did 69 floors, Tuesday I did 82 flights. I instant messaged Erica (Itzy’s Kitchen) and told her that my goal was to hit 86 floors – 1986 was the year I graduated high school.
I did it! Holy balls that was hard. I really really wanted to stop, but you’d be surprised at how fast 20 minutes goes. I still have no idea how I’ll squeeze in 14 more flights, but hopefully I’ll reach my goal! It’s funny but every day I’ve done the Stair Master I am literally STARVING when I am done. I had broccoli soup at work, but I didn’t think that would be enough so I picked up Jimmy Johns.
Later in the afternoon we had pie – not just any pie but a fruit tart from Mariano’s. I normally don’t take part in the birthday treats, but being that it was my birthday, I deemed this one “insulin worthy.”
Yep – this one is for sure insulin worthy! The crust tastes like a butter short bread crust, there is a vanilla custard on top of that, the fruit and then a sugar glaze over the top. When I opened my card from the office, my one boss said “don’t forget to take your insulin before eating the pie!” There was one piece left and I brought it home and Tony and I split that when we got home from dinner.
We went to Slyce in Wauconda. I figured getting to dinner at 6 on a Wednesday wouldn’t be too crowded. Wrong! There were already people waiting 20-30 minutes for a table! Luckily there were two seats at the bar so we ate at the bar. I had Peroni on tap – love that beer! It’s the first restaurant too that handed us a tablet for the wine/beer drinks. Each wine had a picture of the bottle and a description – too cool.
We split a giant Caesar salad – we eat had two small plates and there was still some leftover. We had the meatball, fennel sausage, pepperoni and proscuitto pizza. The pizza is cooked in a coal fire oven and it is spectacular.
The beer and salad were so filling we each only ate 1 1/2 slices. I ate every bite of that delicious crust.
We came home and I opened my present from Tony – it was the only thing I asked for, so it was easy for him!
I knew Andrea and Lara had one, but I had no idea how tiny it was! I can’t wait to see how many steps I take on a day I work at the restaurant. As soon as I hit publish I am going to try to set it up so I can wear it today. This is the first time I’ve had to work a double two days in a row – I work tonight, hopefully for the wine and food pairing, Friday night and Saturday night. Big bucks, no whammies!
Again, thanks for all the birthday wishes, and Tony – thank you for loving me as much as you do! I love you right back!
Make it a great day!
Sounds like a perfect birthday to me.
Hey what about me, am I chopped liver or something? LOL
I have a fitbit too since beginning of February and I love it. I was surprised how small it was eiter. I wear it on my bra. Are you signed up with the official site yet? Will look you up as a friend.
Sounds like an absolutely wonderful birthday, biz!
Way to go on the stairmaster! I have never tried that machine.
That is creepy cool! 😀 Glad you got to indulge a little bit on your special day. When is twin day? I thought you all got together to celebrate your birthday.
