I don’t know what it is, but Friday’s at work seem to just drag on. I kept looking up at the clock and it would only be 10 minutes later. It was a slow day, so that didn’t help matters much.
I was out of my broccoli quiche so I made egg white/spinach breakfast tacos. If you haven’t found Mission Ultra Thin corn tortillas yet, go out and get them, you’ll thank me later. They are so flavorful and two are just 80 calories and 2 grams of fiber and 16 grams of carbs. Ignore the sell by date on this package – I took the picture from an old post of mine!
These were so delicious – I added chopped canned jalapenos to the egg whites, even though you can’t see it in the picture – so every bite was nice and spicy. But of course, I had to add hot sauce. Speaking of hot sauce, when I got to work, this was sitting on my chair! One of the attorneys I’ve been cooking for lately bought it for me – now I have 2 1/2 bottles, so it should last me a while!
I had to run an errand at work, and just so happened to be by the Japanese grocery store, so I spent a few minutes there. Every time I pass by the kabocha stand, I think of Maggie! If you have no idea what kabocha squash is – check out this blog post – you get her kabocha squash 101 tips here. I still haven’t taken the plunge and bought some – shame on me!
I got some other things too – you’ll just have to wait because they will be incorporated into my lunches next week. Let’s just say there is going to be a lot of Asian flavors going on next week!
Since I had to leave 1/2 hour early to go to the restaurant, I didn’t get to the gym yesterday. I figure I get enough exercise being on my feet for six hours at work! I am happy to report that my Sketcher shoes that I got were amazeballs! They were so comfortable, and when I came home I wasn’t limping like I was with my old shoes.
And I loved all your comments on running shoes yesterday. I think I decided that I need to get my shoes fitted – especially since I have one foot that is 1 1/2 times bigger than the other. I found a place called Dick Pond in the Chicago area where they will help you find the right fit. I have never owned a pair of Brooke’s shoes before, so I may try those.
Lunch was quick – the last of my Cincinnati chili with a bit of cheddar cheese. I like to keep it classy and put my napkin in the photo – you know, for “texture.” Ha! I don’t bring my DSLR to work on the days I work at the restaurant. We store our purses in the back, but it’s not locked up so better safe than sorry.
It was a busy night at the restaurant – which I love. I just had some weird tables. I had one table only drink water, have entrees, and that was it. I couldn’t talk them into soup, salad, appetizers, coffee, espresso or dessert! Total tab? $32. And I had one four top split one appetizer for the table, and split an entrée between each couple – separate checks. But I saved myself in volume – two servers called in sick so it was a nice steady pace the whole night, and I was done with my tables and side work by 9:45 and home by 10:20 – nice!
Some of the dishes of the night – I may need to buy this Porterhouse pork chop at my 50% employee discount some day – a 16 ounce porterhouse pork chop covered in a brandied apple sauce, served with baked potato and grilled asparagus.
A shared dish for a couple: The Tomahawk steak – 32 ounces chop cooked to order, served with baked potatoes and grilled asparagus. Totally worth the $60 price tag if you ask me!
Tony was actually more impressed with the zig zag cut of the baked potatoes! The Chef made pizza for the employees, but sadly, they had stinking onions on them. I had a cup of soup when I got to work, and them stopped at a local pizza place on the way home to pick up a pizza – I had 3 slices and an ice cold Rolling Rock beer and it was delicious – hit the spot after a long day.
Yesterday as I was taking the trash out, Kyle the Squirrel was at the back door. I said “hold on Kyle, I just need to take the trash out and I’ll bring you some pecans.” She waited patiently and I gave her some nuts and went on my way to work. As I was leaving I said “I’ll make you some granola tomorrow!” Yep, I am now catering to our squirrel!
Tony found some whole nuts that have been around for a while. We both grew up in homes where our parents would put out bowls of whole nuts with nut crackers and nut pickers. I just really wanted to say nut pickers.
Well, we have some interlopers – this is definitely not Kyle – this one runs away as soon as you open the door, while Kyle nearly runs into the house when we open the door! This squirrel is checking out the competition who is waiting in the tree above.
And apparently this squirrel is picky, because after he smelled this nut, he put it back and went in to get something else!
And then he ran away. No worries Kyle! The granola is in the oven now as I type this!
I have a bit of laundry to do. I also need to mop the kitchen floor, it’s been a couple weeks. I work again tonight, but then have all of tomorrow off, then don’t work at the restaurant until next Friday and Saturday night – not bad!
Hope you have a great weekend! I plan on doing a WI on Monday to keep me accountable. My snacking is definitely way down, so hopefully that will show up in my WI! Hugs!
We too love our squirrels and just set up a food bowl for them right where we can watch them eat. Our temps here near Buffalo have been horrible and we have been so concerned about them. We went to Walmart and bought a 50 lb bag of food for them……and I suspect they sleep at night in a small side of our attic. But with out indoor kitty roaming up there during the day, they seem to stay in one place and are very quiet.
AWWWWW! Love the squirrel pics!
My bf and I try to cut back on soft drinks, so we order water a lot when we eat out. And we eat out too frequently, and since it’s usually not a special occasion, we’ll often share and appetizer and maybe share an entree – depends on the restaurant and its portion sizes. I’d really like to get better with meal planning and eating at home more, and then when we eat out it could be at a really special place (the place you work at sounds pretty special).
Re the shoes – thanks for mentioning that store, I’ll stand by for your experience. I live reasonably close to the Schaumburg & Park Ridge locations. I think I’d benefit from a fitting. I’ve heard good things about Brooks brand too!
My grandmother always had those nuts and crackers and pickers out too. I can’t believe how busy you are! Good grief! I’m thinking about you today while I make your Irish Potato Soup. It’s our favorite!
Kyle picked the right house to stay around, you are so good to him 🙂
Smart decision to fit the shoes before you buy them.
Hmm splitting the check? Isn’t that called Dutch treat in the US? Think I will call that US treat next time I have to split a check 🙂 When I have dinner with friends or colleagues I always split the check.
But going to a restaurant to have entrees and water? Well then I’d rather stay home.
There must be something seriously wrong with me because I scrolled quickly past the all the delicious food photos to see the not-Kyle pictures. 🙂
Not-Kyle one fluffy gal/fellow.
Those potatoes look so cool cut that way!
Your squirrels are spoiled, Biz! 🙂 Then again, we just bought a Costco bag of sugar for our hummingbirds…
My podiatrist recommended Brooks Beast or New Balance 1123 Motion Control shoes for running – my feet tend to roll out when I run or walk. I preferred the fit and look of the New Balance when I tried them on. My feet are big, and the Brooks ones had a long, pointy toe box – I preferred the fit and look of the New Balance on my feet. It’s so worth trying them on and getting a good shoe. (I’m probably overdue, that was 3 years ago!)
Keep an eye on your mailbox this week – I finally packed up those DVDs and will be shipping them out!
Sorry about your odd tables – that’s definitely not my husband and I, lol! When we go out we go ALL out – apps, entree, dessert and of course – a good bottle of wine. Hey, when we’re back we should plan a date night to your spot when you are working! That would be so fun!
And Tony and I think alike – as soon as I saw that pic, I thought the zig zag cut was SO cool!
Is it odd to drink water and just order entrees? That’s all my husband and I do when we eat out. And that’s usually too much food and we bring home the rest of it! I just can’t eat an appetizer and/or dessert with an entree or I am sick I’m so full. And we don’t drink pop. Sometimes I’ll have an iced tea, but not for dinner or I’ll be up all night!
I am jealous of your sriracha stash! There is not a single place in town that has a bottle of the stuff anymore, and I only have ~1/4 of a bottle left. It’s so versatile that you can use it on anything, but I feel like I can’t now. Because what happens when it’s all gone?! I’m going to cry… 😉
OMG! I love that you cater to a squirrel. I love watching the squirrels on our deck, but our cats are not a fan. They want to just get out and kill them. LOL
Yeah for comfortable shoes! The squirrel whisperer, I like that. Went thrift store shopping today and thought of you.
Someday you have to try it 🙂 so delicious!
Glad the sneakers worked out and everything looks delicious. To my pregnant belly the best meal is that pizza, ha 🙂
Steak with pretty potatoes, porterhouse pork chops, pizza, tacos, chili………..yum your blog made me sooooo hungry!!! Had my blood work done yesterday…..so now the wait to hear what a AC1 is. I did my blood 4 times yesterday, 98, 96, 80, 99 between 80 and 99 was the blood work….so I am really hoping my blood will pass and they will say diabetes is controlled.
Gosh I sure do like that vegetable marinara sauce recipe, Biz….and husband again had 2 dishes of it last night….I think it is taking a fast 1st place along with the lasagna soup!!! Have a great weekend.
hahahha love your pet squirrel. The food at the restaurant looks amazing. And your chili- I want a bowl now! My friday felt super slow too because I was mentally preparing for the marathon I ran today!!
So proud of you Erica!!!!
You are like the squirrel whisperer!!! So funny that now you have others coming for the food – even if they might be a bit picky!!!
Glad the sketchers made your feet feel good!!!
Yep, me too – you should have seen me hobble around after a night at the restaurant – I felt like I was 80 years old!
Who needs a dog with ear fungus when you have a squirrel?
Thanks for making me smile today. 🙂
Glad you could make you smile Dana!! Hugs!
LOL! My grandmother always had nut pickers and crackers out. I’m glad you found some comfortable shoes for work. I used to have a super comfy pair of Sketchers for work.
I actually switched to Brooks running shoes this fall with great success. Though I think the reason they are working well is because the guy at the running store convinced me to buy them 1.5 sizes bigger than my shoe size. I had a hard time believing this would be effective but he was right. No pain, no blisters, no discomfort ever!
Have a great weekend Biz!
Wow, that much bigger? I am really looking forward to getting new shoes!
Yep I’m a 6.5 and buy 8s in running shoes.
Yes to bigger Biz! That’s why you really need to get fitted! I wear a 7 or 7 1/2 shoe and an 8 1/2 in running shoes!!
