For some reason yesterday morning before work went by really fast! Normally I keep a pretty good eye on the clock, but I was enjoying my coffee, reading blogs, and the next think I knew it was 7:50 – and I need to leave at 8:05!
So I threw shit in my bag to make breakfast nachos for breakfast – first time I’ve ever completely made them at work and it worked! As I was wondering what to make for lunch – I spied a container of brown rice in the back of the fridge, and stir-fry was on the menu! I had leftover beef from our kebabs the other night – the best marinade ever had been on the meat since Monday.
So at 7:54 I started sautéing zucchini and green peppers!
I was all set to swim at lunch yesterday – so looking forward to it. At my last diabetes doctor appointment he said my blood pressure was a bit high, but just to monitor it and we’d discuss it at my next doctor appointment in December.
Tony has a wrist blood pressure machine, so I’ve been taking it at different times all week and all the numbers were high – on a chart my numbers suggested that I had Stage II Hypertension! So I called my GP, and they wanted me to come in at 2:00 to test it. There went my swim.
Um, turns out the wrist machines aren’t very accurate – I would have been better off using the cuffs by the pharmacy. It was still high – 140/85. But he noticed that I have a heart murmur. Huh. He wants me to get an EKG next week and then we’ll go from there, but he said the murmur could be causing the high blood pressure. I can still work out as normal, he didn’t seem too concerned, but it’s definitely worth checking out!
My stirfry? So delicious!
- 4 ounces beef marinated in best beef marinade ever
- 1 zucchini sliced’
- 1/2 green pepper sliced
- 1 tablespoon House of Tsang stirfry sauce
- 1 teaspoon House of Tsang peanut sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil
I heated up the pan, added the coconut oil and when the pan was screaming hot, cooked the zucchini and green peppers. While that’s was going on, I went and washed my face, brushed my teeth and put my contacts in. Next I pushed the veggies to the side of the pan, then added the beef and then got dresses while that cooked. The last minute I added the stirfry sauces, tossed everything together and cooked for 1 more minute. Then served over 1 cup of brown rice.
I did add a splash of sriracha at work to spice it up a bit! So filling too. This plate comes in at 475 calories and 37 grams of protein – nice!
I stopped by the store on the way home to see what I could find in the 50% off bin. I scored in the cheese section!
But nothing in the meat section. Nothing was really jumping out at me, so I just picked up chicken wings and had buffalo wings for dinner.
Tony and I usually spend our Friday nights clearing stuff off the DVR. I ended up making us a cheese and cracker plate for snacks later on, and I had a few glasses of wine. I fully expected my day to be close to 3000 calories, but was pleasantly surprised even with the snacks and wine, it wasn’t too bad.
Stats for the Day:
- 2270 calories, 118 carbs, 129 protein, 92 fat, 9.2 fiber
- 36% of calories from fat, 22 from protein, 20 from carbs and 19% from alcohol
- no workout
I plan on working out both today and tomorrow. Today I get to see Hannah! She has a friend who I have known since Hannah was in 4th grade. It’s her sons 2nd birthday and I am picking up Hannah on the train, then going to the party, and the way the trains run on the weekend, we’ll have time to thrift before I bring her back to the train at 6:08 – fun!!
Veronica and Suzie – you’ll be happy to know there was a Kyle sighting this morning! We haven’t seen her for a week, but she must have been hungry – she’s been eating solid for about the last 15 minutes!
It’s time to get sweaty! Hope you have a great weekend – see you Monday!
Oh no! High blood pressure is dangerous and scary. I hope all is okay there.
It looks like Kyle has some babies stashed somewhere. Maybe that’s why shes been MIA just to return ravenous.
Oh my goodness, it looks like she might have had babies! That could account for her absence and hunger too, and why she was looking so chunky before and seems deflated with prominent nipples now. Since babies stay in the trees, I’ve only once seen a baby on the ground b/c it fell. SO. Cute. I died (but it didn’t, he was fine). Glad she’s still alive and kickin.
Hope your heart checks out OK! Seems like with all your workouts your bp would be good. My Dad has a heart murmur sometimes too and I think maybe they put him on a medicine for it? I can’t remember but for him it’s not a big deal.
I don’t make stir-fry that often because I’m never sure what to use as a sauce that my husband will like. (If it doesn’t taste like a restaurant, he won’t have me make it again.) I also never know the stirfry sauce to meat-veggie ratio!
Keep us posted on the BP – that can be scary. I hope everything is ok! I have the exact opposite problem, one time a nurse looked at me and said ‘are you alive?’ Ummmmmm – yes! LOL!
Hope you have a great evening – enjoy this awesome weather! We are off to field of dreams (across from Hart Rd!) for baseball!
That sucks about your BP. Sometimes people are prone to high BP, even though the live a healthy lifestyle. Hope that it settles down and is just an aberration.
We have the same stove, BTW…
I’m so glad to hear you went to the doctor and you are going for an EKG. The EKG will not detect the murmur as it is essentially a sound and an EKG records the electrical activity of the heart. If there is any concern after the EKG or if you are feeling at all concerned please ask if you can see a Cardiologist or have an Echocardiogram done. Until then low Na+ por favor!!
Hi ! Just discovered your blog and the least I can say is that it “starts” well with this yummy-looking recipe ! 😀 I hope everything is ok concerning this “murmur”. Anyway, I’ll come back for sure 😉 Have a great Sunday !
Good luck with your appointment! (Doesn’t wine lower BP? =D)
We have the same stove – for some reason I thought you’d be cookin’ with gas. (giggle)
And did Kyle lose some weight? Looks like she might have some Kyle-juniors keepin’ her away?
I hope the BP is due to the murmur. High BP is no joke make sure you keep an eye on it. I want to try and find a few quick go to stir fry recipes. I bought the stir fry sauce in one of your post the other day. I am trying it out tomorrow.
I LOVE how even with running late you still managed to throw together an AMAZING lunch! I need that… whatever it is that gives you that knowledge, share some this way…ok? 😀
Definitely get that BP under control! I hope the EKG comes out clean & these latest reads are just a “fluke”. (hugs)
Blood pressure stuff can be scary! Hope you get it all figured out soon!!
I just saw this article on Yahoo news regarding BP. http://health.yahoo.net/articles/blood-pressure/photos/fun-simple-ways-lower-your-blood-pressure#0
Yikes – hope everything is OK with you and your blood pressure – nothing to mess around with!!!
You are the Queen of multi-tasking (especially in the mornings!!) – you get more done in a few minutes than I do in an hour sometimes!!!
