This post is a few weeks late, but better late than never, right?
I had the wonderful opportunity to taste test two new Weight Watcher products. Long time readers know that I lost 70 pounds with Weight Watchers back in 1999-2000. It took me fourteen months, but WW taught me about portion control, the importance of eating fruits and veggies and lean protein.
Back then the WW plan was based on calories, fat and fiber to figure out the points of particular foods. My sister and I were the queens of finding foods with the highest grams of fiber so in the end, it would be less points. That’s when we discovered Baker’s Breakfast Cookies.
In the beginning we could only order these by mail, so we would buy two dozen at a time. They froze well, and this was a staple breakfast for me. Although the nutrition label was incorrect for the longest time – we calculated the whole cookie to be 1 WW point, when in reality it was 6! I met Tony not long after I met my goal of 140 pounds, and sent him to work with one of these breakfast cookies.
Mind you, Tony at the time wasn’t nearly as concerned about grams of fiber as I was. He later told me that he levitated over the toilet around 10:00 a.m. after eating one of these and never ate another one again!
But I digress. WW products are becoming more and more available, and tastier too.
The first item I was able to taste test was their new brownies:
Triple Chocolate Brownie Bliss – A decadent brownie layered with creamy, chocolate ganache and a chocolaty coating.
Peanut Butter Brownie Bliss – A decadent brownie layered with creamy, real peanut butter and a chocolaty coating.
For two points, I knew it wasn’t going to be a giant brownie – but it’s the perfect two bite dessert when you have a sweet jones going on. This is the peanut butter bliss.
And here is the chocolate brownie bliss:
If you are a chocoholic, I would definitely get the chocolate brownie bliss because it is REALLY chocolaty. Tony and I both preferred the peanut butter bliss though. The best part? Usually when I ask Tony to taste something that is “diety” he already knows its going to taste like ass, but he loves me, so he tries it for me. Usually he would take a tiny bite and when our dog was alive, just toss the remainder to the dog. And even then sometimes Ed would sniff it and walk away.
But not these brownies – the first thing he said is “these don’t taste diet at all.” There is no artificial taste that you get sometimes with products who are trying to reduce the calories by adding ingredients that make taste “off.”
By now these should be hitting your supermarket shelves at the suggested retail price of $3.29 for 10 brownies.
The next product I was provided to try are two new whipped cream cheeses:
Whipped Chocolate and Whipped Chocolate Raspberry. Two tablespoons for 2 WW points.
I was kind of perplexed on what to do with these sweet cream cheeses, as I normally go for jalapeno cream cheese. But then I thought – why not try to make a healthy dessert?
I cored out strawberries, and used 1/2 a teaspoon of the whipped chocolate into each strawberry, then dipped it into a square of cinnamon sugar graham cracker that I crushed up. I think these four strawberries would be 2 WW points – but not sure about the simply filling part. Danica is the Queen of WW, so if you have any questions, she can always answer them. (Hi Danica!) Check out her link she’s got an awesome giveaway going on.
The verdict? Delicious! Just a hint of the chocolate filling and the crunch from the graham crackers. These would be great for a dessert at a bbq – you could core and fill the strawberries ahead of time, and then just dip the strawberries right before serving. Or you could just leave the filled strawberries on a platter and have a bowl of crushed graham crackers and people can dip as they eat.
Thanks Andrea for letting me try these delicious WW products. Look for them in the coming weeks in grocery stores near you.
I feel the same way as Tony about diet-y tasting food! Sounds like I’ll have to give the chocolate bites a try…
Woo hoo extra post this week. What a nice surprise! It is also nice to hear the WW products taste good and don’t have that diet after taste. Sometimes I think it is better to have a small bite of the “real thing” because most diet foods do leave that certain taste behind.
Love your idea of making the healthy dessert! Looks delicious. And I laughed out loud at your comment about Tony thinking anything healthy tastes like ‘ass.’ 🙂
Chocolate brownie bliss all the way for me then because I am a HUGE chocaholic 🙂
You know that’s some skank diet food when your own dog won’t eat it. HA!
I could be ALL over those peanut butter bliss doohicky’s. YUM.
And your strawberry idea was so cute. I don’t know how you filled them – spoon? But I love me some pastry bag magic and I can just imagined that swirled in, with a cute little twist at the top and sprinkles.
Yaaaaaah. ‘Cause we all know sprinkles have absolutely NO calories whatsoever. Right?
I need to not, like, come here at 2:30 in the morning. I end up ravenous everytime I do it. ::grin::
Hugs and love my friend. 🙂
Sorry you were up so early – I just used a 1/2 teaspoon and kind of shoved in the cream cheese – I never thought to use a pastry bag! 😀
YUMS! Great idea using the cream cheese in strawberries.
Those brownies sound good….I will keep a look out for them. Sometimes I want just a little something to satisfy the sweet tooth….the brownies look like the ticket.
Wow….a pleasant surprise to see you today.
Loving the stuffed strawberries! And you are right they would be great for a barbecue. I need to start counting my points again…
YUM! Those brownies looked delish!
Thanks Biz! I will be on the lookout. I have been doing weight watchers for 5 or 6 weeks and have lost 10 lbs. I really want to try the whipped chocolate cream cheese!
That’s awesome Kim! 😀
Yummmmmmm. : )
