I really can’t remember the last time I didn’t have a glass of wine or beer on a Friday night. And you know what? I feel great about it!
It’s kind of funny because back when I was really heavy, one thing I really loved was coffee creamer. In fact my favorite was International Delights Irish Cream. Of course I was trying to lose weight, and I kept thinking the only thing that was holding me back was that damn coffee creamer. Until they came out with a fat free version – oh my gosh! Problem solved!
Here’s a picture of my and my sister – circa 1998. My sister is pregnant with her second son. Um, I am not pregnant. I can’t tell you how many floral dresses I had like that – just throw them on and all the flowers in the pattern would just make me seem . . . smaller?
But obviously, coffee creamer wasn’t my problem, just as drinking wine really wasn’t the problem. It was everything else that you have to do to get to goal – eating right, drinking water and exercising. It’s not until all three of those things are aligned that you’ll have success.
For years I either worked out like a banshee, and then figured “I worked out for an hour so I can have that frozen yogurt with peanut m&m’s!” Or I would eat right, and not exercise. So much wasted time.
But, now into my third month on Insanity, everything seems to be falling into place. I know I it’s still going to take a long time to get to where I want to be and you know what? I am so okay with that. Have you ever “dieted” for three weeks and then didn’t see the results you wanted and then just said “fuck it” and order a large pizza for yourself?
Granted, it’s hard work. It takes time. It takes dedication. But I am in it to win it.
Yesterday’s breakfast was a winner – another Martha’s pancake – this time with blueberries, banana, almonds and sugar free pancake syrup. I didn’t have any meat left in the house to have on the side that wasn’t frozen!
At lunch I wanted to do a “last chance” workout on the treadmill. Gotta love Pinterest!
I modified this a bit though – I did it for 40 minutes, with a 5 minute cool down.
I also started at 4.0 mph – then every four minutes I raised the speed .5 mph – but I did my last four minute sprint at 7 mph – which is the equivalent to an 8.54 mph pace!
My Saucony shoes were great – such great support and no foot pain. Woop! Although I think I will take blog reader Randi’s advice and invest in a pair of Dr. Scholl’s ortho flip flops – great idea Randi – thanks! I also think they sell them at Famous Footwear too.
I drank LOTS of water at work – 96 ounces before I walked out the door. I figured I’d take pictures next to my favorite hot sauces at my desk. Eek – I am almost out of sriracha!
Last weekend I made a batch of my grown up spaghettios for my SIL for her lunches and had just enough for a serving for myself. I forgot how much I love this soup! On the side a jalapeno string cheese – my co-worker J gave me one and some grapes.
Later in the afternoon I had a mango Chobani and 1/2 an ounce of almonds.
A new sub place opened not too far from our house. We talked about getting subs for dinner last night. I think Tony will suggest just about anything not to have Party Pizza Friday! These were good – from Bubs Subs in Algonquin. I got the #11 – wise guy – ham, spicy capicola, genoa salami, provolone, green peppers, banana peppers, lettuce and hot giardiniera on the side.
While it looks like a lot of bread to meat ratio – the bread was soft. And Tony said there were only 2 slices of each meat put on the sandwich – I calculated this sammie around 600 calories – sound about right?
I let dinner settle for about an hour before doing Insanity. I switched it up. Yesterday was supposed to be my rest day, but I ended up doing the 55 minute Max Sports Interval workout, which has quickly become my favorite, even though it’s only the second time I’ve done it! I love how it keeps switching around – from basketball, football, gymnastics and track. Kim, did you find out if you had this on your DVD?
I drank Gatorade instead of wine. Got to bed at 11:30 last night and was up at 8:15 this morning feeling refreshed and ready to go. Love it.
Stats for the Day:
- 1531 calories, 54 fat, 168 carbs, 13 fiber and 93 protein
- 44% calories from carbs, 32% from fat, 24% from protein
- 45 minute treadmill intervals
- 55 minute Max Sports Interval
- no alcohol
We have no concrete plans this weekend, although I am still in the process of breaking down the bedroom we have in the basement – the flood warped the paneling and the wood is moldy – I can do most of it until it gets to the electrical and then I need Tony to step in – no need to electrocute myself!
I have two workouts planned – a 45-60 minute walk in my hilly neighborhood and another Insanity workout. I have my gallon of water ready to go too!
I am doing my final WI for the Dietbet tomorrow – I’ll post the results on Monday. I don’t normally post on Sunday’s but stop back tomorrow because I had the opportunity to try two new Weight Watcher products that are really, really good.
Have a great weekend – any cool plans?
Hi Biz! I looked pretty fat during that same year. So I empathize–in the truest sense. But we are both doing SO MUCH BETTER! Yay! The past is past. 😀
I’m actually jealous because your smashing it. The sad thing is, I’m drinking a glass of wine whilst reading this…damn it! lol.
You are doing great. I am going to try home made spaghettios. They look good. Thanks for sharing.
You are doing so awesome! I am trying to get back on track after San Fran and did pretty well this weekend. We went to a concert Friday and then watched Steelers pre-season at a brewery with friends yesterday.
That sounds like fun! 😀
Anonymous is me: Fran 🙂
I keep on telling you, even till you are bored by hearing it: you are such an inspiration. You rock, rock, rock. This time you got it, everything falls in place for you and i’m so happy for you.
Thanks Fran! I appreciate it! 😀 Hope you are enjoying your time off of work!
You rock! Love that picture with you and your sister and the hot sauces. Did you know I have twins? I guess I have a sweet spot for twins!
Nope! I did not know that. We are lucky – we are born with best friends! 😀
You’re killin’ it Biz! Way to go!!!
Thanks Sheryl – hope things have calmed down in your neck of the woods!
You have won already, no matter what the numbers on the scale says tomorrow.Keep up the determination, dedication and the inspiration you are always giving others. You ROCK! ; )
Thanks Laura – appreciate it!!
Yes, it is so hard to lose weight. Especially after 40, slow and painful. But you just gotta do it.
I did the Run or Dye race today. It was mobbed, but chill. More walkers than runners (which is good, my Achilles tendonitis doesn’t like running). But I started feeling fat and slow.
But most of the people there (at least half?) were also like me, fat and slow.
Still, just gotta keep working at it. I gained a bit back last weekend, but I still made my goal on the diet bet. I started at 171.8 and needed to lose 7 lbs. I lost 7.2 and am at 164.6.
So next goal is to lose 6.6 lbs by September 8, coming in at 158. I can do it!!
I do give myself one day off a week though. I don’t go nuts, but I let myself drink wine.
Tomorrow is my rest day and I am looking forward to it! Congrats on reaching your goal – before you know it, we’ll both be in the 150s! So glad you went to that race – I want to do one of those some day. 😀
Ok, I laughed outloud at ‘um…I am not pregnant.’ You are so funny and honest – and inspiring with what you have done to your overall health. Really, it’s awesome.
I am SO SO SO excited for my cherry salsa, woooohooo! Thank you, so much.
And guess what? I actually made a real breakfast this morning and thought of you – gluten free blueberry pancakes. No idea why I decided to make them gluten free but I did and they were delicious!
I hope I haven’t hyped up the salsa too much! Have fun tomorrow!
I have on idea what Insanity is, but I’m really inspired by your daily pics on IG. It seems like you’ve really turned a corner. I keep making excuses about the last ten pounds and I’m slowly running out!
Lara, in case you don’t know, you are already perfect the way you are! 😀
Remember to avoid salty foods today! 😉
Thanks Christine! 😀
I’m so excited for you…ehhh! Tomorrow is the big day. Although- every day has been the big day, right? You’ve been working your tush off. Hopefully tomorrow will reflect all of your hard work 🙂 I haven’t had a good sub in a while. No real weekend plans here. Taught step this morning, otherwise? Kay just went down for her nap and I think I’m going to take one too- I never give myself time to rest…think its about time!
I love naps! Go for it!
Thanks for the mention again. You found those flip-flops cheaper than I did, I should have done a web search and looked at other places for them. Thanks for posting the diet bet link. Julie and I both made our goal. We’ve been working out 4x a week steadily for the last month. I feel great. I just wish my morning BS was better.
My morning blood sugar was 199 – gah! Great job on reaching your goals!!
I don’t have the Max Sports Interval DVD and I’m bummed – I might have to see if I can get it!!!
Pretty sure that even if you don’t win this round of DietBet you will meet your goal which is just as good as a win, right?!
I’m hoping that my weekend includes some time spent soaking up some sun!!
I’m up super early for a Saturday; procrastinating on grad school! My cousin is getting married today so I am trying to get MAK and the boy cleaned up! LOL. Good luck with the basement room tear-down; moldy wood is never fun!
I am going to make a batch of soup tomorrow for the week’s lunches; I was thinking either your lasagne soup or one of your chili recipes. Decisions, decisions!
Once you make the lasagna soup, you’ll never go back! 😀 If you make the lasagna soup, do the noodles separately and store them separate from the soup, otherwise they soak up all the broth!
