It was interesting to hear how many people have a love/hate relationship with artificial sweeteners. I failed to mention one important piece of information about Habitall. Since it’s made from all-natural ingredients, um, how to I put this delicately. I just have to say it. You won’t shit your pants if you use this!
I’ll never forget after being diagnosed with diabetes in 2000. I was passing through the train station in Chicago and I see a sign from Fannie Mae candy that said “now offering sugar free candy!” OMG! I can eat candy again because it’s sugar free! Much like the “fat free” craze where people thought you can each as much as you want because its fat free! I too, had the same thought about sugar free candy.
I of course thought it was a good idea to buy the 8 piece sample pack. Think each piece of candy was about the size of a penny. I got back to my office and decided to try one. Wow, so good! So I had another piece, and another – until I ate 4 pieces! I figured “I’ll save the rest for tomorrow.”
Not a half hour later I was like “WTF?!” and not kidding, spent the next four hours unable to leave the toilet. I even missed my train home! Turns out the artificial sweetener they used was sorbitol – and I don’t think I’ve had any sf candy with it since! (Hope you aren’t eating breakfast now and have a visual of me on the toilet – ha! and you’re welcome!)
For breakfast yesterday I made a flatout breakfast wrap, but my wrap kinda broke up on me, so this was more of a fork and knife breakfast.
It was perfect weather yesterday. Just before I decided to go to the gym, I realized it was a sunny 68 degrees and decided to get my walk on outside. I figured out how to do a screen shot of my iPhone – woot! I ended up walking 45 minutes around the subdivision behind my office. Below is the main road that gets you to the subdivision, not a whole lot of traffic.
Some small houses to look at:
I found a can of chipotle peppers in my pantry so I decided to marinate some chicken for chicken tacos for a lunch for me and my boss. She can handle the heat!
Chipotle Pepper Marinated Chicken
- 2 servings – 120 calories, 1.1 fat, 460 sodium, 4.9 carbs, 2/6 fiber and 22 protein
Ingredients:
- 8 ounces of chicken breast, chopped into bite size pieces
- 2 Tablespoons chipotle chili in adobo (I use 1 chili and 1 tablespoon of the sauce)
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
- juice from 1 lime
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- cracked pepper to taste
I put everything but the chicken in my mini chopped and pulsed until it became smooth. Poured over my chicken and let it sit overnight before Pam frying before work yesterday. I also sauteed a red pepper to add to the tacos, and topped with chopped lettuce, red cabbage, a little bit of cheddar cheese and my baja fresh salsa.
I love, love this marinade. It’s spicy, but I love the kick of the vinegar and the acidity of the lime juice. Not your typical chicken taco – but delish! The other star of the plate though was 1/2 a cup of my stovetop refried beans. I topped it with some more of my baja fresh salsa – spicy goodness!
I had more chicken for dinner, or polish kielbasa, and Tony picked the kielbasa. We both agree this is very tasty grilled. Since I knew I was going to work out after dinner, I didn’t go too crazy. I had 3 ounces of sausage, 1 cup of grilled broccoli tossed in 1 tablespoon of hot giardiniera, and 1/2 cup of vinegar cole slaw on the side.
So at 7:45, I got my workout clothes on and did Day 2 of Insanity. I have to say, I am quite shocked at how NOT sore I am after the first two days. I think its because he does he really good stretch after the initial 5 minute warm up, and has a great stretch at the end.
You all know that Tony loves me for who I am. Right now, muffin top at all. He’s always telling me that if I chose to lose weight its because I want to, not because he thinks I need to. I was right in the middle of doing push ups before going into sprints in the plank position when he came into the family room and started cheering me on – love it! I appreciate your support every day Tony – thank you!
I have some awesome news to share. My blog friend Veronica has been trying to have a baby forever. I used to get so sad for her when she’d post that another month has come and gone and I believe she’d given up hope of ever becoming a Mom. She and her husband just celebrated their 13th anniversary yesterday, when she posted this picture on Facebook.
She’s actually due on her husbands birthday in December! So just wanted to let her know how happy I am for her – she’s gonna be a great Momma and I hope you will all send good vibes her way for a healthy pregnancy and baby. Best.news.ever!
Stats for the Day:

Alright, I need to get going here – I am off to make chicken stir fry for lunch today and I think I may have a Green Monster for breakfast!
It’s National Running Day today, so if my legs are up to it, I am going to do a 5k at lunch today – make it a great day!
I never knew of the FUN effects of artificial sweeteners, too funny. and HOLY HAPPY for Veronica. I have been sick all week and haven’t been blogging or reading, I am heading over to offer her some congrats!
Omgoats Biz I was so shocked when I saw myself on your blog! LOL! Was not expecting that at all! I’m so happy you’re so excited for us! And thanks to all the readers who are happy for us too without even knowing us, that is so touching.
Oh and I hate sorbitol too-I think we’ve swapped diarrhea stories about it before cuz I remember yours-lol. I steer clear of aspartame (phenylalanine) but don’t get too anal about it. My favorite artificial sweetener is sucralose as it has been deemed safest and doesn’t give me any bad effects, but if I have a choice I sweeten with stevia. I’m also down with ehrythritol (sorry I know that’s horribly misspelled) so I’d be cool with that product!
I am just so happy for you and Dennis, I had to share to good news!!
Yep, we’ve shared shit stories before, and I had to laugh about you not being to “anal” about aspartame – hahahahaha!
Hugs!
bwahahahahaha–that was totally innocent and I didn’t even realize I made a punny! Good catch!
Holy cow! I had no idea sorbitol could have such an intense effect. Good to know!
I love how supportive Tony is . . . you’ve obviously got a very special man in your life. 🙂 Way to go with Insanity–you’re so inspiring!
Thanks Michelle! Yep, I am a lucky gal!
John had the same problem with SF candy. He bought a bag of sugar free chocolate covered pretzels and proceeded to eat about half the bag. Then he reads the warning on the bag that says “May cause intestinal discomfort” – D’oh!!
Yep, that’s learning it the hard way! 🙁
Looks delicious! Just found you, but will come back more often for sure!
OMG yay for Veronica!
I will be trying your marinade for tacos the next time I get to cook for myself! Yay spicy shit!
Love that you love spicy shit like me!
Totally awesome workouts!! I am impressed! I was really happy yesterday, I ended up doing a whole hour on the elliptical because I got addicted to Plants vs. Zombies on my phone and told myself I could only play as long as I was exercising. 😀
Great job Sara!
Too funny – prior to sitting down to read your blog I just got done marinading pork in chili in adobo sauce for pork tacos tonight! Great minds think alike 🙂
That is AWESOME news for your friends – yippee!!
Let me know what you think of the chipotle with the pork!
I l love the sound of this marinade, because I love anything with chipotle. Congrats to Veronica!
Mmmmmmm….that plate of kielbasa, coleslaw and broccoli sure looks good 🙂 Need to buy a cabbage tomorrow. As for sweetners….I switched from Splenda to Stevia a couple of years ago, and then I use half a package at that. When I bake, which is seldom, I’m always useing half or even 1/4 of the sugar what the recipe calls for. My husband has gout, so we do have to watch sugar intake, which is something we did not watch in our younger years…..now we pay for it in our older years.
Yay..for Veronica!!
AWWW….yay for Veronica and her hubby. What a sweet photo! You have a wonderful day Vat! May sorbitol not cross your plate! 🙂
Awww, what wonderful news for Veronica! 🙂
Hope you get a run in today…we did, and it was warm, humid and wonderful!
Yep, almost broke 34 minutes for my 5k!!
I found a recipe for grilled kielbasa kabobs that I’m dying to make!
Aww so happy for your friend!! That’s awesome!!! Haha I was literally eating my yogurt when I read about the bathroom….sorbital has the same effect on me – so lovely, isn’t it?
AWWWWWWWW! Congrats to the expecting couple! Struggling with infertility is no joke…its tough stuff . Glad they were able to conceive.
Now, how beautiful are those tacos? Its 10 AM…too early for lunch? Maybe not today ;). Tony- you rock!
I am picturing you on the shitter….what a great start to my day!:) By the way – I am now wondering if sorbitol is somehow put on lettuce at restaurants. For the last few years, every time I have lettuce from a salad bar or even a dinner salad at a restaurant it GOES RIGHT THRU ME. But when I eat lettuce at home – no issues. Dr. Biz, what do you think?
You’re welcome Ally! I actually have the same reaction to most salad bars – maybe they put something on it to keep it fresher longer? I don’t have the same problem at home either!
Funny, I had the same experience first time I ate suger free candy and never ate it again after that 🙂
I don’t like it when R. walks in the room during a workout because he’s even tougher than Jillian, Shaun, Tony, Chalean or whom is on the TV screen. If he notices me taking a break he becomes this drill instructor saying I have to keep moving 🙂
Yep, its something in that artificial sweetener – its a fine line between just enough and crapping your pants! Ha – love that R is like my Tony!
All of this food looks amazing! And good for you on crushing Insanity! I can’t believe you’re not sore – I was SO sore afterwards. During the second week, I started doing even more stretching on my own, which helped a little.
Dig deep, Biz! 😛
Thanks Alex! Thanks for cheering me on Instagram! 😀
So happy for your friend! And your chicken sounds awesome.
Natl running day eh, ok I need to get out there. Have been running most days on vacation, but it is so hilly here that they have not been long runs. Shooting for 5+ today.
The scenery looks gorgeous where you are – hope you were able to get in a long run Jacky!
Now I’m craving mexican in a bad way…………
YAY VERONICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Peggy! 😀
Your lunch looks amazing! I could eat Mexican every day though, so any time tacos are posted I’m like “I need that, NOW!” ha. I’m so happy for your friend and definitely sending vibes for a healthy pregnancy 🙂
I’m glad you posted that it’s national running day…I guess today would be the perfect day to start my june goal to “start running”.
I hope you got out there Sam!! And yes, I could have Mexican every day and never get sick of it! 😀
