It’s 21 degrees people. It’s April 3. I am so over winter, but hopefully after today this arctic air will move on out – I think our high tomorrow is 57 – bring it!
My boss was back from spring break. One of her favorite breakfasts that I made are my Chobani banana granola pancakes. I paired my two pancakes with a pork and apple sausage.
Because so many people were out of the office during my birthday, we celebrated yesterday. Treats were brought in – thanks for the spread J!
Complete with birthday candle on the banana bread.
I had three small pieces of cheese, a Cutie, and some pineapple.
At lunch I decided to bike ride – I ended up doing 8.08 miles in 35 minutes! I did the moderate hill climb, and kept my RPM’s between 90 and 100 the whole time.
For lunch I made me and my boss flank steak tacos, cilantro brown rice and chips and salsa. I used low carb wraps, 2 ounces of leftover flank steak, 2 tablespoons of refried beans, 1/2 an ounce of cheddar cheese and baby spinach. Those chips? Tostitos whole grain – very crispy, not too salty either.
I don’t care what the weather is, I’ve already switched my brain to grill mode. I bought a turkey breast over the weekend, with the thought of having it for dinner one night this week and then making a turkey noodle soup with the leftovers for lunch next week.
Only one teeny, tiny problem with that idea. We lit the grill around 6:00 and I told Tony I thought it would only take about 45 minutes to cook. Um, try an hour and 20 minutes! And yesterday of all days, Tony actually ate lunch at lunch time (sometimes he doesn’t eat anything until 3 in the afternoon!). So by 7:20 he was hangry!
No real recipe – I just put about a teaspoon of olive oil over the skin. Then sprinkled with Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. And I slice lemons and put them under the skin. This cooked on indirect heat too – I had the two right burners on, and the turkey sat on top of the cold side. It kept a steady temperature of about 375.
It was interesting yesterday what people thought about the sugar free honey. All I know is that it is completely artificial. That honey comes in at 50 calories a tablespoon and 17 grams of carbs. Regular honey? 60 calories and 17 grams of carbs. For diabetics, it’s all about the carbs, so I don’t know who the company can say it’s diabetic friendly – 100% of carbs turn into glucose so I would think the sugar free and the regular honey would effect your body the same way.
I’ll have to ask my registered dieticians to chime in on this one – Nicole, Kristen and EA. Your thoughts ladies??
You are probably wondering by now what the title of my post is all about today. Well reason #1 that I am so lucky? Tony loves my body. When I met him I was a size 8 and 135 pounds. He knew I was heavy before from pictures I had in my house when we met, but I had lost 70 pounds right before meeting him.
Since being put on insulin, suddenly all the things I stayed away from were all available to me again – I’ll just take more insulin! “I can get cheddar bacon fries for just .99 more? Yes please!”
But even as I started to gain some of the weight back, he’s always told me I am beautiful and that he is lucky to have me in his life. Not a day goes by that he doesn’t tell me this.
But ladies, you know how we are – we pick apart our bodies at any given chance. Getting out of the shower all I see is a big belly. When I run on the treadmill, I feel my muffin top bouncing up and down.
But my ass? I love it! It’s perky, a nice shape. So today I decided to think positive about my body and today I embrace my ass!
So I haven’t weighed myself in a while. A long while. Truth be told I would have thought I’d gained 5 pounds with all the birthday celebrations we had in March. But guess what?
So I’ve lost 3 pounds in the last 50 days. Not going to win any records, but it’s put the month of March in perspective for me – and I maintained my weight, which is a good thing! I am going to do my WI Wednesday again to keep on track.
Question of the Day: What part of your body are you going to embrace today?
Off to make broccoli ham macaroni and cheese for lunch – I am going to be using unsweetened almond milk – if it turns out, I’ll post the recipe tomorrow.
Make it a great day!
Despite the fact that I swear old age is making most parts of my body fall apart, I’m still a fan of my legs. Even after having not skated in 5 years (ack!) they are still shapely and strong 🙂
Hi Biz! I also like how you love your ass. Isn’t it just time to start loving who are are?! I like what I look like too. It’s good to be me.
🙂 Marion
Yeah! Biz, you are such an inspiration! I loved this post.
Great post! They always say to focus on – and to dress – your ‘ass’ets, right? 😉
I am so excited for tomorrow’s forecast! Bring on the upper 50’s….I am ready to wear sandals soon!
Great message today, Biz….I needed it. I’ve been kind of picking apart my body lately, and needed this!
I love that Tony tells you, you are beautiful everyday! That is awesome! You loving and embracing your ass had me rolling girl. You crack me up. I totally agree with you though, we should embrace the positive and not think of the negative. If I had to pick a body part, I guess I’d embrace my legs, they are strong, they get me places and they help me swim! You knew I had to say something with swimming 😉
Yep – do you have a set date when your pool is opening??!
So funny you talk about this today as I was just talking to a friend about the same thing. Since my recovery “ah-ha” moment a few months ago I have FINALLY come to love my butt, hips, waist and boobs! I have always HATED them but now? Definitely in love..and it helps that Whit lets me know. LOL 🙂 I wish that more of us could embrace ourselves like you have!
I wish you didn’t have to go through YEARS of food disorders – I am still so proud at how far you’ve come and how positive you are!!
Hooray for loving your sassy ass! I’d love mine, except my husband told me yesterday, “time to hit the gym a little harder, eh?” He is never getting laid again.
Oh my, I was reading this comment on my phone on the car ride home and I laughed out loud! Thanks KW!
Woke up this morning to a blizzard and snow on the ground. Now it’s sunny and it’s all melting away! In April!!!
We should all embrace ourselves. I embrace my strength. I may not be at goal weight and I may only be 5′ 0″ tall but my body does what I ask of it and that includes some major walking 🙂
I am utterly amazed at how much walking you do – kudos!
Good message for today, I am going to embrace my arms because they are tone and muscular…unlike most of me 🙂
Ha – love it!
I’m going to embrace being tall – I know many women would die to be 5′ 9”…..so I’ll take it:)
Lucky! I always wished I were that tall!
Can’t wait to grill!!!! I think we’re going to have to this week, sunny and mid 50’s?! Hells to the yes.
Well, now that you and your family are going Paleo, you’ll be grilling up a storm!
Pretty sure that’s the only reason Spencer agreed to Paleo 😉
It’s so important to talk positively about our bodies. I see too many people talk about themselves in a way they would never let someone else talk to them.
I embrace my thighs – great for biking! ::D
Good luck on your 250 miles in April!
I can’t wait to not only grill (b/c we’re doing that already), but to hang out by the grill. I want to sit on the patio and sip a beverage as the grill cooks our dinner to perfection. 🙂
Sounds like you have an incredible husband. I love my arms. I like to strength train, and think my upper arms have some pretty decent tone. 🙂
Yep, we miss sitting outside and in the summer we’ll bring the t.v. out and watch The White Sox outside – so fun!
I understand! I am ready for grilling weather too. The nice weekend we had (almost 80 degrees!) made me ready for summer.
I love my legs. I used to hate them but I’ve grown to love them. THey may not be small but they are muscular and strong.
And they have helped you move to lose 100 pounds! Woop!
I read this post in the midst of writing my own for today and I ended up tying in your question to my topic. I’m embracing my strong legs today. For so long I’ve despised them, but now I’m learning to love them. Big as they may be they are forceful and have helped me become a healthy runner.
I totally agree with Jacky on your salsa. There is no way those jars I won lasted 3 weeks and I didn’t share very well.
I loved reading your post and you can steal my words anytime chica – great job on that hill! #winning!
Oh your potatoes look so good! It is cold here in MN too and I wish it was grill season!!
That Tony….And always better to lose than gain. And look at the shape you are getting in. Muscle weighs more than fat so you really need to measure inches. And what a great office you have!
Thanks Abbe – not sure I have 30-35 pounds of muscle though! 😀
I’m so sick of this weather too – I have a feeling we’re going to go right from Winter into Summer! I LOVE this post today and I really needed it. Great job on the weight loss! Today I’m embracing every bit of myself – imperfections and all!
Oh, man–that cheese spread at your office looks fabulous. You’re a strong women to stop at only three pieces; cheese is my weakness.
I think the honey is just a way for them to make a product that can be artificial and less expensive, especially since it’s fairly similar in nutritional information. Regardless of the expense, you should consider buying local honey from your farmer’s market as it can be very beneficial.
Yep, I am a cheese whore too! That’s why I like you Mel. Can’t wait to try those strawberries you posted next Easter!
A loss is a loss, good job! And riddle me this, how do you know your Baja salsa has s shelf life of 3 weeks, certainly it never lasts that long. We ate both jars in three sittings, and my husband was only involved in one of those! Thanks again.
Ha, the only reason I know that it lasts three weeks is because I gave a big jar to a co-worker, it got buried in the back of his fridge, he found it three weeks later and it was still good!
So glad you liked it!
So on the honey thing, you would have been fine, diabetes-wise, to have regular honey, then, correct? All I know is that not only can I taste the artificial sweeteners, but I don’t like them, and I don’t like ingesting chemicals like that. I make my granola with 1/3 cup of honey and 3 T of brown sugar.
Mmmm, granolaaaa…it’s time for breakfast!
Have a great day!
Yep, I think it would have affected me the same either way – and what’s 10 calories in a day?!
I love that you are embracing your ass! It’s so true what you say. How many of us hated our bodies when we were in our 20’s but now wish we would have embraced what we had then as opposed to now?
Since the honey is primarily sugar alcohols, I imagine it’s processed differently in the body, making it more diabetic friendly, but certainly not low calorie. It’s like when you see the candies that are sweetened with those alcohols and they say Not for weight loss.
Yep, I’ve made the mistake of eating too much “sugar free” chocolate in once sitting and have paid the price in the bathroom – I call sugar free candy a “colon cleanse!”
Woo hoo for loving your ass. I’m also going to embrace my ass today. I need to try those tortilla chips, they look yummy. Less salty would be a win for me.
Woop! Loved your 5 inch heals you wore over the weekend!
I’m so glad you posted about the honey! I made granola last night and as I was pulling out my honey, I flipped it over to check out the nutritional stats. It made me again say “what the heck is sugar free honey”…honey is sugar! Oh well- I guess its splenda vs. white sugar. That turkey looks amazing. Worth the wait for sure. What a fun birthday celebration. I would have stolen all of the fruit
Yeah, really the only thing is the cost between the two – and when I make a batch of granola, the cost of honey really adds up!
Great outlook. Being healthy is what matters. 🙂
I love your title…and it’s good to love your butt…wasn’t sure if you were talking about that or calling Tony an ass; and I was ready to take up for him! Lol, I knew you wouldn’t have been calling that wonderful man an ass!
For the record…I am an ass, and I really love Bizz’s!
Ha, thanks for sticking up for him Suzi! And Tony? Best comment ever! I love you!
Glad you love your ass! 🙂
I’m going to embrace my legs today – they are strong and carry me everywhere without complaining too much. 🙂
Your lunch plans sound delicious!
Especially for your long hikes now!
