As most of my long time readers know I am low maintenance. I mean very low maintenance. I don’t think I’ve paid retail for clothes in a decade. I own exactly 4 pairs of shoes, one of which includes flip flops. Although I do have two pairs of slippers – see what I mean?
Comfort for me is where its at. So that’s why I despise bras. Doesn’t matter. I can pay $70 for a bra at Victoria’s Secret, or I can buy 3 for $10 at Walmart. They all suck ass. Either the underwire cuts in after a while, they lose their shape after washing, or in my opinion, the worst offense – the strap falling repeatedly off my shoulder while I am at the copier all afternoon.
So the other day I was picking up my insulin at Walgreen’s when I just happened to be walking down the aisle that has “As Seen On TV” products. Not gonna lie I am usually a sucker for those infomercials. But what stopped me was that they had this on the shelf:
Just so you know, that’s how I normally look with just a bra on. 😀 The package had two bras – one nude and one black – for $9.99. The frugal side of me thought “two bras for $10!
Well, I’ve been wearing it all week and I love it. I don’t even feel like I am wearing a bra at all. There are no clasps, the shoulder straps stay on all day – its kind of like a fancy sports bra. 😀
Guess what I had for breakfast?? Yep! Another yogurt parfait – although I think after three days in a row I am really missing my eggs. This version also has Chobani’s new flavor that they sent me – Apple Cinnamon.
It actually has tiny bits of apple and cinnamon on the bottom – and a 6 ounce container is only 3 points. So this parfait comes in at 5 points.
So when I left to work out at lunch. It had started snowing big snowflakes. But it was 32 degrees and I was prepared, so I went for it. My blood sugar was 210 when I left – perfect!
I did my usual walk/run to a song. The last song was really fast temp and I felt like I was sprinting the last four minutes of my run! Here I am before getting going – see the snow on my hat and I’d only been out 5 minutes.
I stole Tony’s ear muffs and while a bit big, they worked perfectly. They stayed on and they kept my headphones in place. 😀
I pushed the last part of my run so hard, check out my blood sugar when I got back to my desk:
Needless to say, I did not take any insulin for lunch. I brought leftover beef with peppers from the freezer (thanks again for the idea Veronica!) and served it on tostadas with black beans, corn, red peppers, romaine, a bit of cheddar cheese and salsa. This comes in at 10 points.
By the time it was time to leave the office? The temps dropped to about 11 degrees, the roads were super icy even though there was barely an inch of snow. It took me 2 hours to drive home!
So while it would have been really easy to pick up a pizza on the way home, I decided to stick with my plan. I had defrosted a small steak that I had in the freezer for my dinner. As I was driving home I was thinking what else I had for a side dish, I remembered I had a cauliflower in the downstairs fridge.
As luck would have it, I had seen Nicole from Heat to 350’s recipe for Cauliflower in Cheddar Mustard Cream Sauce. My two favorite words are in that recipe – cheese and mustard.
I did adapt it a bit, just because I like a thicker sauce, and of course had to kick up the spice factor. Tony wanted me to bring him home plain white bread (not whole wheat, not wheaty white, just plain white!) and I just happened to be near the deluxe cheese section by the deli.
I scooped up a small piece of Japaneno Havarti for this recipe. Since I hadn’t spent any extra money on groceries this week, this was worth the $5 splurge. Doesn’t everyone cook dinner after being stuck in traffic for two hours? 😀
Cauliflower in Jalapeno Cheddar Mustard Cream Sauce
- makes 4 servings at 4 WW points each (1 cup)
Ingredients:
- 4 cups chopped raw cauliflower
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 cup fat free half and half
- 2 ounces jalapeno havarti
- 1 tablespoon grainy mustard
- 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
- 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
Steam the cauliflower for about 7-8 minutes, or just until tender. Meanwhile melt butter. Add flour and stir for 1 minute. Slowly add the cup of half and half to make a thick white sauce. Remove from heat, and add the cheese, mustard, cayenne pepper, nutmeg and salt and pepper to taste until the cheese is melted.
Toss the cauliflower with the cheese sauce and serve.
I don’t know why but adding cheese to cauliflower tastes just like mac n cheese without all the carbs! Dinner comes in at 10 points.
So I am a bit pissed at my WI today. I worked out 45-50 minutes every day, did strength training, counted ALL my points, even over last weekend, and this is how I am rewarded:
But I am not going to let that number rule my week. I know I was on track. I actually feel thinner, so I am going to keep on keeping on. I am just tired of toggling back and forth these last few weeks. 🙁 Alright, I am off to meal plan and see what’s in my pantry and fridge – make it a great day!
Need some more motivation to get out and move? It just takes one step.
How much would I love a bowl of that cheesy cauliflower right now? Yum!
Oh how I wish I saw this post when you originally posted it… I gained 1lb this last WI & it sent me off into a downward spiral. Your positive attitude is what I need a bit of!
That cauliflower looks AMAZING!
Apple cin Chobani is my new favorite flavor, I am in love with it!!! The parfait looks delicious!
I was going to buy those bras on Friday but all they had was small and that is NOT the size for me.
The post is up about your gumbo!
Ok, I’m kinda behind on posts, but that cauliflower dish looks amazing!!! The jalapeno havarti? OMG. Don’t let the scale rule you, you are doing so awesome!
That cauliflower looks awesome!!! We had a little ice and snow too…. glad you made it home ok….
I’m so sad. Walgreens only had size medium, which I knew was too small for me. So I went to Target and did a happy dance that they had size large. WHY didn’t I try it on before buying? Got the bras home, and it’s soooo tight, it makes me flat chested. I really hope they have an XL and that I’m no bigger than that b/c then I’d just be depressed-lol! I’ll have to exchange it tomorrow, Sunday, b/c it’s too late to go back now.
OK, this is uncanny. Literally, right before I came to your blog, I told my husband, “I’m going to read one more blog then I’m going to go bra shopping.” The awesome bra I spent $70 on only lasted a year and it’s time for a new one. What perfect timing to get this recommendation! I’ll be heading to Walgreens instead of the mall, and I really hope they have these bras. I love what you did with the banana pepper beef, btw!
I tried the apple cinnamon chobani yesterday for the first time. I LOVED it! I’m used to eating the plain greek yogurt but the little taste of apple and cinnamon was fantastic!
I have those bras too and I LOVE them!
Don’t worry about the weight gain – I bet if you stepped on the scale tomorrow it would be gone!
I was going to say the exact same thing as Jenn (bra and scale!) See, I knew I was the triplet 😉
Hope you’re having a great weekend, Biz!
Yeah for finding a bra you like! I got fitted for a bra and it made all the difference in the world!
Boo on the weight in. It’s normal to fluctuate all the time (I should know). 🙂 Just think…next week you will have a loss for sure!
Go Walgrens! Way to have a rockin bra. And speaking of rockin…I can’t believe you worked out outside in that cold! I can’t do it- such a whimp. Bummer about the way in. Hopefully next week will turn it all around
Love the title of this post! Those bras do look comfy, I will have to check them out.
I’ve had a craving for cauliflower, that recipe looks great!
Wowser, 2 hours to get home, and then you made dinner! Super woman!
If you feel thinner, you probably are!!! 🙂 Have a great weekend!
If it helps, that much working out plus strength training is equal to muscle growth! That is good news, as it means your metabolism will be boosted a little. But, more muscle also means more ability to store water weight, which can fluctuate a lot when you work out. Ignore the high numbers, if you feel thinner you most likely are!
Those yogurt parfaits look delicious. I think I will go shopping for some similar parfait ingredients today … probably plain (unsweetened) Greek yogurt, granola, raisins, frozen strawberries, some cashews.
I am so guilty of not treating myself to a good bra, running or otherwise. I am so cheap when it comes to them and Walmart is my go to place to buy bras as well. I watched an episode of Oprah once and the stylist simply changed the bra on a few women. The effects of a properly fitting bra were unbelievable. Maybe if I had Oprah’s stylist I would invest in a better bra?!
I like the new Chobani, but nothing compares to the plain fat free Chobani for me. I actually heat up an apple with cinnamon and put it on top sometimes.
Sucky weigh in Biz. I have no words other than hang in there. You are doing all the right things. I don’t know if you read my latest post but I’m struggling right around the same stupid number as you and I’m angry.
Have a good weekend. Keep doing what you’re doing!
One of these days we’ll both stay in the 150’s! (and then the 140s!) Hang in there too – still so proud of your sub 30 5k though! 😀
Thanks Biz! I agree we just have to keep being persistent. No giving up.
The scale doesn’t know what it’s doing! Keep up the good work and don’t let it get to you!
Thanks for the Genie bra info. I actually saw the infomercial several times and was intrigued…. I’ll have to see if I can find them at Walgreens!
I know it’s frustrating to show such a gain after being so good all week, but I swear, it’s like you can get a sweet surprise when you’ve been off track, and a nasty shock when you’ve been ON track. Scales do not make a whole lot of sense on a weekly basis – but over the last 4 weeks, you’re down, right? Maybe look at it from the bigger picture standpoint?
P.S. Two hours to drive home? Yikes!
P.S.S. Those Genie bras look comfortable, but somehow I don’t think they’d be enough for me and my girls. We need reinforcements. Heavy lifting. Stability. OK, I’ll stop now. 😉 Have a great weekend!
Yep, still down for the last four weeks, so its all good. And since I combined breakfast and lunch today – I am having pizza for dinner! 😀
You’re my hero. Going for a run in the snow, planning a super meal even after being stuck in traffic for two hours, and ignoring a blip on your WI to keep on progressing toward your goal. Also thanks for the heads up on the Walmart bras. I might buy a pkg for my daughter who has yet to find the perfect fit.
Cheesy and bra in the title of this post. That ought to get you some good Google traffic!
I saw those bras and thought about getting them, but I was afraid I would get a uniboob look.
I have found Warner Brand wireless bras to be awesome (Kmart) for not falling off my shoulders. I also will get a racer back bra, as those don’t fall off the shoulders either.
No uniboob here – so comfy! 😀
Definitely don’t let the scale get you down, you had an amazing week!
I tried that flavor of Chobani while i was in Ohio and I loved it! I haven’t been able to find it in any stores around here though. I think I may have giggled when I saw those bras at Walmart, who know they’d be so great?
Since they shipped it to me, not sure if its available in my area either – I need to check that out – the other flavors they sent me I think were passion fruit and blood orange! 😀
Eh, it’s just water weight. I’m sure it’s just salt. My weight fluctuates that much by the day. You’re doing GREAT!
I might have to try those bras. I hate bras. And my neighbor just gave me a bag of nursing bras. Man. Never thought I’d have to wear THOSE again.
For sure don’t worry about that silly scale! You are doing great. I’m buying groceries this morning and for definitely buying cauliflower. I’ve seen another recipe this week that looks almost as good as this one. Yum. 🙂
