Hannah and I had so much fun yesterday. I knew we were going out for lunch and I didn’t get up until 9:00, so I had an apple and a piece of string cheese to hold me over until lunch.
We first went to the thrift store, only to find out that it didn’t open until noon and it was 10:30. So we went to Target, T.J. Maxx, and then to Panda Express for lunch. I first started eating Panda Express when I worked in Chicago – I actually think its pretty flavorful! My plate: pepper chicken, beef and broccoli with rice. I only ate about 1/4 of the rice, and 3/4 of each of my entrees.
So there are a few things that my family has banned me from purchasing at thrift store/garage sales. First is: Tony has banned me from buying any more khaki pants. I have too many pairs, but yet I still gravitate to them when I see them! The second two Hannah has banned me from purchasing:
I did buy a pair of pants and a few shirts, and I also bought this baguette baking pan for $1.21.
I made another batch of Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes, but this time took two grapefruit size portions of dough to fill this pan. I water brushed the top and added coarse sea salt to the top.
I liked the size of this loaf, but the only thing I missed was the crunchy bottom when I bake it straight on my hot baking stone – I think next time I’ll heat up the loaf pan before adding the dough. It was still delicious though!
My store had pot roast on sale for $1.99 – so glad its now fall weather food! I hate when my mind already turns to winter comfort food when we hit October, and the temperatures are still in the 70s! This weekend we were around the 60’s with lows near 40 at night – perfect pot roast weather!
I don’t have a real recipe for pot roast. I season up 2 tablespoons of flour with salt and pepper. I put that all over the pot roast, then heat up a teaspoon of oil and sear both sides of the meat. I cut up potatoes and carrots, and dump those on top of the meat, adding a cup of beef broth, 1 tablespoons worchestershire sauce and 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning.
Tony made the suggestion of doing our roast low and slow in the oven – sometimes our crockpot gets hot enough to boil the gravy! We baked this at 200 degrees for about 6 hours.
Stats for Sunday
- 1351 caloires, 110 carbs, 111 protein, 51 fat, 10.1 fiber
- 38% of calories from fat
- no exercise
Looking back through my week I noticed that while my calorie intake was on target, several days my percentage of calories from fat were well over 30%, so I was kind of nervous for my weigh in today. Last week I was 171.6.
Goals for this week:
- take at least one class at the gym
- strength train 3 x
- total of 60 minutes of exercise throughout the day
- no alcohol during the week
Did you have a great weekend? Happy Monday! 😀
p.s. I almost forgot! Two of my friends made it to the next round of Project Food Buzz – they had to make a twist on pizza. Remember the reuben pizza I made with the jalapeno mustard rye crust?
- Mara of What’s for Dinner made a sushi pizza!
- Mary of Foodo del Mundo made SIX different pizzas!
Please vote for them so they can advance to the next round! 😀
I love all things snowmen, so I hear ya! Love to collect everything with snowmen! 😉
I LOVE that 5 Minute Bread, new kitchen gadgets and the fact that you busted out the Christmas Knife already 😀
Congrats on the loss – every little bit counts and adds up in the end – keep up the great work Biz!
Love the shirt! That is one beautiful baguette!
Awesome job on the weight loss Bizzy. Thanks – now I know what we are having for dinner. lol YUM
Congrats on the weight loss! Woo Hoo you aredoing a lot of things right. What program or tape are you using to lift weights with?
Susan
I love Christmas mugs, too 🙂 But I probably wouldn’t be allowed to buy any more, either 😉 The pot roast looks amazing! As does that bread…YUM! It looks perfect to me! I’ve got a big piece of butt (that sounds so weird…) that I’m going to make shredded, spicy pork with tomorrow….I’m excited!
I’m going to have to check out that sushi pizza…wow! How unique!
Great deal on the baking pan! And holy cow that roast beef plate looks absolutely delicious!!!!!!
I love to hear about all of the Hannah and Biz adventures. You always find the best bargains. We have a great new store Savers that has AMAZING deals! I have found some great things for the baby.
I haven’t made a pot roast in a long time. It use to be something my mom made a couple times a month.
I need to mix up a batch of Artisan dough. Thanks for the reminder. Your food always looks amazing and I love the variety of dishes you make.
Congrats on the nice loss!
way to go on the weight loss Biz!! I’m still stuck at the same weight. Blah. At least it’s not a gain right?
I love the snowmen. Too cute! I love them.
First of all…DON”T USE YOUR X-MAS STUFF SO EARLY IN THE YEAR!!! LOL
Sorry for yelling! The pot roast looks good. I’ve never made one before, but my parents do. I’ll have to try it.
Oh and congrats on the 1.2 lbs! Awesome!
Many random thoughts:
1. Congrats!!! -1.2 lbs is fantastic!
2. Panda Express? Droooooool…
3. That’s a lovely shirt! It would have been difficult for me to pass up, too.
4. They really need to make baguette pans out of pizza stone material.
5. Your pot roast? Droooool…
6. Bet you’re loving the Round 5 pizza entries! I checked out (and voted for) Mara’s already, I’ll have to take a look at Mary’s, too. Mara’s sushi take on pizza kind of made me think that making a bahn mi-style pizza would be an interesting possibility. (Especially since the bread base is a baguette.)
Someone did make that pizza! 😀

It looks amazing! And yes, jealous I couldn’t have participated in the pizza round! 🙁
I LOVE salty bread – yum!!
Congrats on the loss! Yayay!
I love the salty addition to that loaf of bread. It looks beautiful and I’m sure it really enhances the taste!

that pot roast looks so darn good. oh my gosh. congrats on your weight loss!!! 🙂
Congrats! I think it is great how well you track your calories and fat. It can be a lot of work.
That bread looks amazing. I still have yet to make homemade bread. I am sure it tastes amazing!
I love, love, love Pot Roast! One of my favorite dinners ever. I actually prefer it made in the oven instead of the slow cooker.
Congrats on the weight loss!!!
Yeeeeeehaw!!! Congratulations on the weight loss – way to go!!!
I LOVE POT ROAST. Still too warm here (upper 80s this week) to make it, but oh I will as soon as it turns cold. I’m like you – no real recipe, but it is one dish that always turns out good.
I like that shirt – totally would have bought it. You can do so many things with them – layer over a long-sleeved shirt, wear alone, under a cute jacket…I can see having too many khaki pants, but the shirts? Never! 🙂
Well done on the weight loss! And I would have bought that shirt, ban or not. It was so nice. Love your baguette pan!
Sounds like you had great fun. I’d be afraid to buy anything with material from thrift stores lately because of the bed bug outbreak. But what a great deal you got on that baking pan!
Congrats on the slow but steady weight loss too. What a nice bonus.
It’s like Niagra Falls in mouth….that pot roast you made looks heavenly!
I forgot to say, congrats on the weight loss!! Yippee!!
Morning Biz! Glad you guys had fun yesterday!
I’ll call you when I get to work :0)
