I neglected to mention that I slept for 12 hours on Saturday night! I didn’t get out of bed until 10:30, and I seriously could have slept until noon.
Tony made me another one of his delicious breakfasts – eggs on a corn tortilla with my baja fresh salsa, cheese and tater tots on the side.
I made my grocery list, went to the store and scored on some basil!
All those containers cost me . . .
Yep – $1 for all when they are normally $1 each. 😀 I was going to make pesto, but didn’t have any pine nuts – so I subbed in almonds instead – its delicious!
- 2 cups basil
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
- 1 ounce almonds
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- cracked pepper
- salt
Tony had picked up this hot dog sauce when we were at Fresh Market. I instantly remembered that Mary Beth made some Coney island sauce, which I need to try soon!
I had a Ball Park Turkey hot dog with this sauce – it was really spicy! Almost too spicy for Tony.
After Hannah got home from work, we heated out to go bowling. Mind you, I used to be on a bowling team when I was in my early 20’s. My average used to be about 220. Well, after bowling about once every three years, um, let’s just say its not that great anymore!
I had a $25 dollar gift card – to bowl two games, for two people is $28 dollars, so our games only cost $3!
My first game is always the best – I bowled a 142 – the second game was 125. Hannah hadn’t had much to eat so we split an order of mozzarella balls:
And upon hearing that I had beef stew in the oven, ordered this pear salad – I had a bite of it and it was really good!
We had so much fun, just being goofy. I love how I can make her laugh at the drop of a hat!
I had asked Hannah to write down anything she needed at the store. She wrote down “onions.” I had no idea what that meant, so right now, in my refrigerator is . . . a white onion, a yellow onion and scallions! I am pretty sure that is a first in my house!
Later on Hannah made a baked potato and diced up some chives. I just wanted the world to know that a mother’s love is greater than her hate of onions!
When Hannah and I got home from bowling, I immediately went to check on my beef stew. One problem – the pot wasn’t even hot! I had set the oven for 275, but I must have turned it off somehow. It had only been cooking 30 minutes before we left. I ended up finishing it on top of the stove and we didn’t eat until 8:00!
Good News: Hannah found my cell phone!! She normally parks her car in our front yard – we have no garage, and just one long driveway. When I got out of her car last Monday, it must have fallen out of my bag – it had been in my lawn for 6 days! Thanks Hannah!
Yep – an all time high for me. I have realized that lately I haven’t written down everything I’ve eaten, had an extra handful of almonds, an extra piece of cheese, a bowl of pretzels before bed. It’s now back to basics – especially since I’ve joined Steve’s Hot 100!
So goals for this week:
- minimum 60 minutes total exercise per day
- minimum 64 ounces of water
- track all my food
- no alcohol
I am going to be getting inspiration from my friend Shelley – who just ran a 10 mile race on Saturday! Check out her recap here. I am so proud of her!
And Happy Birthday to my Dad. If he were still alive, he would have been 72 years old today! I did a tribute to his 70th birthday – you can meet him here.
Alright, my game face is on – whose with me this week?
Loved that photo of you and Hannah! I think you look great!
I am so jealous on the basil! I don’t know where to find cheap basil anywhere! It’s so stinking expensive and it’s driving me insane!
I have been snacking like crazy! I’m heading the wrong direction too and it so needs to stop! Hang in there!
I’m the Gutter Queen. Truly. There is no one better than gutter-bowling than me.
Argh, sorry about the gain…but the good thing about weight is…it can always go down again! I’m sure you’ll manage it, Biz! 🙂
why dont you try lifting weights for a week or two. It actually burns more calories than cardio and you keep on burning afterwards. Im usually dripping sweat at the end of a weight workout. The more muscle you have, the more fat you’ll burn when resting.
Almonds sounds great in pesto!
I have my weight loss game face on. Even though Evan and I went out to the Outback and Dairy Queen while I was waiting for my car to get fixed, I logged every bite and STILL managed to stay under 1300 calories for the day! (Outback trick: 6oz steak, green beans and mixed veggies with no butter. Also told the waitress she shouldn’t bring a bread basket. Total calories: 315! Mini Blizzard: 370. Fortunately, breakfast only came to 230 and lunch was 370-ish.)
You can do it! Find a pretty notebook that will encourage you to log BLTs (bites, licks and tastes). 🙂
I discovered that Outback automatically puts butter on the steaks before they hit the table – no wonder they are so good!
You still did great though! 😀
Back on the bandwagon…I should hop on too :-/ I would love to lose 10-15 pounds going into the holidays…but it’s SO tough!! The bowling is impressive…even if way less than your old average! I can never break 100 🙂 Lame!
I loved your comment! I am pretty sure we were on TV at some point…we were right in the OSU section and in row 2. I gave a stuck out tongue and a thumbs down to a lot of TV cameras throughout the game!!!
Great deal on the Basil!!! Sorry about the weight gain but, it happens ugh! I love bowling. Looks like you guys had a blast!
Great score on the basil!! I love bowling and my first game is always the best too! How funny. Hannah’s pear salad looks delicious! I love beef stew, but I might have gotten that too! I do the same thing w/ our oven all the time. The light on/off button is right next to the power off so if I have checked it w/ the oven light, chances are that I messed up and hit power off. The funny thing is, that the light stays on – the power goes off. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve checked and just seen a cold oven w/ the light on. Oops!
I loved your dad tribute post. Mine would be 78 this week; he died over 20 years ago, in his early 50s.
You know I’m with you!
Holy basil! I’ll have to try making pesto with almonds. I have some basil that I want to use up.
I’m with you – I hope to exercise a lot this week – need to get my mojo back!
That pesto looks great! I think I may make some tonight with almond slivers! Our basil plant (that is as big as a bush) is probably going to die soon – time to take what I can get and USE it!
Looks like you had a great time bowling with your daughter!
That almond basil pesto sounds delicious… Yum!
Glad you had fun bowling Biz!!
So many people have had alarming weights lately that I’m starting to wonder if sunspots are attacking our scales! If only…actually with me it’s that I’m attacking everything edible that isn’t nailed down. Love to see you and Hannah together, and how you can make her laugh! Makes me miss my Jean!
oh my gosh that breakfast sounds SO GOOD! i don’t make big breakfasts very often, but i could totally see that happening soon with this post as inspiration 🙂
I was thinking, when I saw your bowling picture “dang, Biz looks great!” so you are hiding your extra weight well. But yeah, it’s time to buckle down – I look at that shot of you and Hannah, with your big beautiful eyes, and I’d hate to think of them being damaged by the diabetes – more than anything, this is for your health.
I like to bowl but I’m lucky if I break 100 most of the time. But my ball is purple and it matched my bowling shoes, so I’m a happy camper when I’m on the lanes! 🙂
Your pesto looks great – can’t wait to see all the different ways you end up using it…
And thank you for the shout out! Believe me, that was one tough run. I’m still kind of shocked that I did it.
It’s all the muscle – not! 😀
Holla holla bowling champ! You will ROCK this week! I can feel it!
I didn’t realize you still blog!!!!!!!! When did you change your domain?!?!!??!!?!?! HI!
You kill me with your sleeping. I can only sleep that many hours when I’m under the influence of some sort of drug. Considering that you slept until 10:30, your dinner really wasn’t “late” at all!
I know it’s a big fat pain in the arse to have to track food and get that exercise in, but I suppose that’s better than just having a big fat arse, huh?
Go Biz Go!
Let’s kick this week’s arse!
I love bowling but have never been great at it. It’s one of those sports I can just have fun with and not worry about sucking since I’m not ruining a team’s chances of winning. Love the deal you got on basil!
1. I hate bowling, but it looks like you guys had fun!
2. I love your green cardigan.
3. Jealous of oyur pesto.
4. You’re going to ROCK your goals for the week!
5. Happy Monday!
Thanks Errign! 😀
