I decided to have yet another taco burrito for breakfast, not the best picture, but it’s so good!
I only ate the strawberries in this fruit cup – the others weren’t very good. I realize now that when I buy the pre-cut fruit, I really need to eat it within the first couple of days.
Lunch was more of my Chicken Tikka Masala. Um, pretty sure I love this because it’s the third time I’ve made it in three weeks! I had 3/4 cup of white rice and a WW 1 point pita.
I love the added cilantro – probably my favorite herb next to basil!
I had another orange on the side too.
I knew the girls were going to be home for dinner, so I took Christina’s advice and made her something she would be more familiar with: spaetzle! Only problem – I’ve never made it before! My friend Andrea at work’s Mom is from Germany, so she gave me her tried and true recipe:
Andrea’s Mom’s Spaetzle Recipe (I doubled it!)
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (didn’t add to mine though)
- 2 tablespoons minced fresh chives (left that out too!)
Mix flour together – mix eggs and milk together. Make a well in the dry ingredients and put eggs/milk in the middle. Using a fork, bring down flour to incorporate. Let dough sit 10 to 15 minutes.
I saw on youtube where you could just push the dough through a collendar – um, that didn’t work!
It was then that Maxi said her mom uses a machine – and her hand gestures led me to my potato ricer!
They only take a couple minutes to cook – when they float to the top, they are done.
I was wondering what to make with the spaetzle, and a quick google search led me to this recipe. So beef stroganoff spaetzle it was! Maxi had two helpings!
Dinner was literally ready in about 25 minutes, and the kitchen was all cleaned up by 6:45! It was still so light out, so I took Ed for a quick walk – but it was freezing, we only lasted 15 minutes!
And while cold, it was a beautiful sunset!
Stats for Thursday: 40 minute walk/jog/5% incline on treadmill (wasn’t feeling the run yesterday!), 15 minute walk with the dog. (1454 calories, 143 carbs, 141 protein, 37 fat and 23 fiber)
The German students went downtown on Wednesday – I finally downloaded Maxi’s pictures last night – this one is one of my favorites! They are in the glass cube that juts out of the Sears Tower!
Happy Friday! I get to wear Jeans today at work – have a great day! š

Delicious looking foods as usual, heard about that glass cube at the old Sears tower, looks cool

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of spaetzle, but it looks SOOOOOOOOO good!! Want š

Spaetzle looks delicious!! I’d love to try it. I need a ricer though!
You’d like my office, Biz, jeans are OK any day! And I must try that Chicken Tikka Masala, it looks so good!!! Hope you all have a great weekend!
yums that spaetzle has comfort food spelled all over it!
Great breakfast! And the spaetzle sound great!
Happy weekend! š
yay for being able to wear jeans to work on Firdays – I have to admit that thats one of the favorite parts of my job, dress code is casual =)
glad you were able to make something that Maxi loved and had TWO servings of – the beef looks amazing!
That’s so sweet of you to make Maxi comfort food. I bet that’s really helping if she’s feeling any homesickness š
Your tikka masala looks SO good.
You keep putting yummy burittos on here and it’s finally pushing me over the edge. Going to look for the WW pitas when I go shopping next!
I love the picture of the kids at the Sears Tower!
They look like they are having so much fun!
I’ve never heard of spaetzle, but it sure does look interesting! So it basically looks like the german version of pasta?? Glad to hear Maxi liked it so much. I’m sure she is just loving living with yall!! š
Your site is total food porn for me, it all looks so good! And your dog is a cutie, I have a black lab too, such god dogs. I think I will add your tikka masala to my menu planning next week it looks so good.
As always, your eats look delicious. Except for the cilantro. I’d take out the cilantro. Never been a fan š
Spaetzle sounds tasty!
Oh cool, I love German food but have never made it either. I don’t have a ricer, though. I’ll have to find a way to make this work!
Don’t forget to link it up to Friday Firsts! š
I think your taco breakfast burrito looks good – it makes me want to make one. š
I guess it’s sorta like gnocchi in another shape then? Bravo for trying to make german food and you make it look delish!
Happy Friday ~ it’s the little things – I have flip flops on with my jeans š
love the how to on the spaetzle… new word and dish for me.
Thank you for the linky love! I’m so glad that you enjoyed the stroganoff! I loved your pictures! Yum!
What a great website you have!
Blessings,
Lacy
That’s what I order when I go to German restaurants cause it is like the only thing I can eat. I watch an episode of Emeril the other day and he made some. Looks good.
My husband, the Pennsylvania Dutch man, love spaetzle. So does my dad. I’m going to have to try to make them both some!
And the tikka masala might be in my immediate future!
I love German food! That looks awesome Biz!
Wow, I think I would be a little scared in the glass cube, especially piled among other people!
I love spaetzle with a little butter, and your recipe doesn’t look too hard to make at all! I don’t know what it is about cut fruit that makes it go bad so quickly. Bummer, because cutting up produce ahead of time makes it so much easier to eat.
i ditto everyone else who said that it was so sweet of you to cook something that maxi would recognize! sounds like she enjoyed it too if she had two bowls š
Spaetzle and beef stroganoff are a couple of the very few German foods I like. Go figure since I love carbs. You are a great hostess!
Next time you talk to Charlie tell him I’m really mad that he’s not blogging. Especially since he went to Fitbloggin as a super star! The least he could do is give us a review…
Gorgeous pics, Biz! Yay for jeans Friday! You have me convinced, I’m making that Chicken Tikka Masala next week! Thanks for the recipe! Have a WONDERFUL weekend!
P.S. I think I’m planning a trip home the weekend of 4/17 or 23 — wanna meet up for a cup of coffee? š
Absolutely!!
So sweet of you to make a meal that Maxi is familiar with – after a week in America, I’m sure she was ready for something from home. That said, I always thought spaetzle was a dessert…so I’ve learned yet another food thing from you, lol!
I’ve never heard of spaetzle – but that looks so delicious! That is so sweet of you to make some food for Maxi that must remind her of home. I’m sure she appeciates it more than you know!
oy…I am so scared of heights, looking at that picture makes my stomach flip. š I don’t know if I could go out in the cube!
mmm that chicken tikka masala with the cilantro looks so delicious. I think cilantro is one of my favorite herbs too.
That’s great that Maxi enjoyed the spaetzle. I bet she felt right at home. It looks pretty delicious to me, I’ve never tried german food!
