Until I read Errign’s blog the other day, I never even thought about running a 5k on a treadmill before! (And speaking of Errign – she has another giveaway – go check it out!). I usually do my typical 5 minute warm up and then my 5 minute intervals of jogging and then sprinting the last 30 seconds, increasing the sprint on each 5 minute interval.
But today after I warmed up, I said “just run until you can’t go anymore.” I decided to take it 5 minutes at a time. Mind you, I was only going 4.5 mph, but I was watching FoodTV (Boy Meets Grill with Bobby Flay then Guys Big Bite!). I told myself to just watch the t.v., and to only look down at the treadmill at the beginning of each commercial.
Before I knew it I had run 20 minutes straight! Then the next thing I knew, I was at 2.9 miles and knew I could go the distance! At exactly 39:01 minutes of continuous running, I ran 3.2 miles! I was such a dork – I am in the fitness center at my office, all by myself, but I put my hands in the air like I was crossing a finish line!
And I actually felt I could have gone longer! Talk about my inner athlete starting to come out! And all this time I told myself I couldn’t continually run when I guess I never let myself even try! I pushed outside my comfort zone, and it felt good! 😀
I had to be creative with breakfast today since I didn’t do a full grocery shop. I kind of felt like my bread/apple/cheese combo, when I realized we were out of bread. And that’s when I saw them – corn tostadas!! Each one is only 43 calories!
My egg mixture was 1 fresh egg, 1/2 cup egg beaters, 1 ounce deli ham, 1/2 ounce Mexican cheese on each tostada, spinach, and orange pepper. I cooked the eggs before work then assembled my tostadas and put them in the office toaster oven to melt the cheese. Then drizzled taco bell sauce on top – it was crispy, crunchy – yummy! I had the last of the cantaloupe – 4.5 ounces. It was almost over ripe, but still good!
My plate:
After my run I waited about 1/2 hour to eat – I actually wasn’t too hungry, but since I could feel my flood sugar dropping, I knew I had to eat. 1 cup of my pear blue cheese soup! I brought the other half of the recipe to my co-worker. She called me and said: “I would eat this soup for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 365 days its that good!” Not to brag, but I do think it is a winning combo! I had a turkey wrap on the side.
I had to work a bit late tonight, so Tony picked up some Chinese food for dinner. I had one egg roll, 1 cup of shrimp and broccoli with 1/2 cup shrimp fried rice. I kind of guessed on the calories – do you think I am close??
Stats for the Day:
- 1520 calories
- 42 fat
- 189 carbs (I went about 14 grams over)
- 105 protein
- 30 fiber 😀
- 5 minute warm up
- 39 minute run!
- 5 minute cool down
- 10 minute walk with the dog after dinner
- 90 ounces of water 😀
Gotta scoot. It’s almost 9:00 p.m. and I don’t have my comfy clothes on yet! Hannah and I had another meeting at the high school tonight about her German Exchange Program! 😀
If I am not going out at night, I put my pajamas on as soon as I walk in the door, even when cooking dinner! Do you put your comfy clothes on asap?
See you tomorrow – only one more work day and I am on staycation for nine days!!!!
That’s awesome about your 5k! Yay for that. 🙂
I definitely do put comfy pants on right when I get in the door. Comfy pants are my favorite…I’m going to put some on right now in fact. 🙂
Biz that is just plain awesome! Go girl! 😀 Also love the grilled dinner up top, mmm potatoes on the grill are amazing. Naturally I want something grilled now. LOL
Congrats!!! haha I had to laugh at the arms up story! 🙂 Johnny was reading some article that says the arms up in victory is actually thought to be a reflex! I guess they’ve done studies w/ blind ppl and in other countries and secluded areas and it’s across the board. So it makes even more sense! hehe
The fried rice looks delicious!
I get into comfy clothes right away. When I lived in NC my drive home was about 20 minutes and I vividly remember a few times whipping my bra off through my shirt sleeve b/c I couldn’t even wait that much longer!! hahahaha TMI!
You bet I would have my hands in the air too! Too cute you are! 🙂
Comfy clothes after work are a must in our house. I was happy to read I was not alone. 🙂
Woot! I don’t care much for treadmill running, but with my kids on an earlier school schedule, most of my running has to happen there, and I think it’s harder. Kudos to you on a great run!
And yes, I love my PJ clothes, too! Although I leave my work clothes on until after dinner, because they’re more fitted. (I’d ditch them on walking through the door if I had to wear a skirt and pantyhose, though! We’re “business casual,” thank goodness!)
Whooo hooooo! I couldn’t help but smile at the thought of you running with your hands in the air “crossing the finish line”! I remember the first time I ran 5K on the treadmill; it was such a great feeling and I knew if I could run it on the treadmill, I could run it outside, too! I see a 5K race in your NEAR future! Congrats!!!!!!!!
I need to find my inner athlete.
great job w/ the workout and pushing your limits!!!
i am so inspired by your running! i’m seriously going to try that next time i’m on the treadmill. i went to the gym today and had the laziest workout of 3.3 the whole time, blah.
i have a pair of cloud patterned pajama pants that i always have on when i’m home. i don’t care what time it is, if i’m home, i got the cloud pants on, they’re so comfy!
WOW GREAT WORKOUT! I would have done the same thing with my hands in the air while I played the Rocky Song in my head ha
Good for you! I don’t think my body could run that long…
CONGRATS!!! That’s awesome!
As soon as I walk through the door, no matter the time, I change into comfy clothes. If I have to go out again, I change back.
WOWser congrats biz!!!! I can’t run at alllll, haha or don’t want to, so that is really awesome. I def put on comfy sweats first thing when I get home, and slippers!! I think i have more pj type clothes than normal ones 😀
Nice job on the run. If I am home, I am in sweats. I like to be comfy all the time. I have tons of pairs of VS sweat pants and one’s from colleges too.
I ditch the work clothes the second I walk in the door and change into shorts and a comfy t-shirt.
I wish I could exercise on my lunch break. I am a heavy sweater when I am exercising. If I were to do anything beyond walking I would need a shower when I finished.
IMPRESSIVE JOB ON THE RUN!!
Miz, who needs to force herself not to be in workout clothes all day (whether she exercises or not 🙂 lets call em clothes) when she works from home and rolls with the chid…..
Thanks again for my guest post yesterday! 😀
Haha, you are so cute! I can just imagine you with your fists pumped in the air! Great job, Biz!
I try not to get out of my comfort clothes if possible 😉
move it to lose it… now i need you to come cook for me and kick my ass out of the lazyboy
Congrats on your 5K!!!! That’s wonderful, I’m very proud of you! 🙂
Biz you are awesome! “Only at a 4.5” is moving pretty darn fast, especially for us shorties! Love that you took it 5 minutes at a time – what a great way to sneak in a long run! Congratulations, you runner!!!
BTW, I come home, let Paco the Wonder Dog out, and then go straight to my closet to change into comfy clothes. Tonight I worked late, then went to my meeting, and FINALLY at 9 pm was able to change…whew!
Nice job on the run!! That’s fantastic. I bet you feel awesome.
That blue cheese and pear soup sounds amazing. I can’t believe that flavor exists! Fantastic.
I put my comfy clothes on the second I can. I wert a purple tank top and my sweat pant shorts (our apartment is always so hot at night!). I love comfy clothes.
Yes! I put shower and put on my PJ’s after working out so while cooking and eating my dinner I’m in my comfy clothes!!
Way to go on the lunch 5K!! 🙂
Congrats Biz! It’s funny – I do the same thing when I am running sometimes, tell myself I can only look during commercials or whatever! It works great so I am no thinking about how far I have gone!
I have really started to enjoy setting a distance goal on the treadmill as opposed to a time goal, it’s nice to switch it up and I usually burn more calories when I am shooting for a specific distance.
Happy almost Friday!
