I had to stop by a Toys R Us tonight for a baby shower at my office, and wouldn’t you know that our favorite sushi place is right by there!
But first I got to work and my boss brought this back from her vacation – althought it has rattlesnack stew in it, it does have some interesting recipes for buttermilk biscuits that look really good!
Breakfast was my version of huevos rancheros. I have no idea how close this is to the real deal, but it was good!
- 1 low carb wrap
- 1 scrambled egg
- 3 ounces diced potato
- 1/2 banana pepper chopped
- 2 tablespoons salsa
- 1 /2 ounce fresco cheese
- 348 calories, 13.3 fat, 19.7 protein, 46 carbs and 12 fiber
Lunch was leftover chicken breast, and every vegetable I had in the house!
- 3 ounces chicken
- 3 ounces broccoli
- 3 ounces carrots
- 3 ounces zucchini
- 1/2 cup cooked brown rice
- Hot Korean bbq stirfry sauce
- 349 calories, 4.2 fat, 32.8 protein, 44 carbs and 6.2 fiber
My friend and I walked for 45 minutes and I carried 2 pound hand weights to get some upper body in. So beautiful out today! We decided that we may as well take advantage of the outdoors while we can, so I think walking will be our go to. But I did get a little snacky around 4. Just a couple almonds did the trick!
Hannah and I usually order several appetizers to split as our meal, Tony gets the real deal! Hannah and I split:
- crazy boy roll (crab, avocado)
- aged dashi tofu (my personal fav!)
- gyoza (dumplings)
- lobster spring roll (which turned out to be fried!)
- using calorieking.com, my estimate is that dinner was 656 caloires, 31 fat, 22 protein, 78 carbs and 10.5 fiber
So which meal would you pick? Would you go the appetizer route with me and Han or go all raw?? Curious to see where everyones sushi level is!
I’d like to give a big Happy Birthday shout out to my friend Cathy at Noble Pig. She’s a riot if you haven’t checked her out, her photos are drop dead gorgeous, and she and her husband are building a winery in Oregon! Stop by and wish her happy birthday if you have time!
Also excited about a Chicago area blogger pot luck that’s being planned by my friend Christina at Dinner at Christina’s in September! More details will follow when we get closer to the date! Do I have any other Chicago area readers?
Just curious, even if you have never commented, where are you from? Just leave a comment with the state – its always so interesting! Like my friend Mara at What’s for Dinner? Turns out she works with my co-workers sister – its such a small world!
Stats for the Day
- 1352 calories
- 48 fat
- 75 protien
- 169 carbs
- 29.6 fiber 😀
- 45 minute walk with 2 pound weights
Off to snuggle with Tony and see if our White Sox can win another game tonight – it was a close one last night but luckily we won!
See you tomorrow night! 😀

Love your blog!
yay for sushi!!! you are making me crave it! i love making it at home because i can be creative with all the ingredients. rolling isn’t so hard. handrolls are the easiest to do!

I have NEVER had sushi..need to go one day..lol…
I am on the East Coast…WILMINGTON, NC
Gosh, I wish I can have them all now!
New Hampshire!
Just moved from Cali to AZ, but would much rather be sitting by the ocean than in the hot desert 🙁
Great eats… love the breakfast idea.
Wow, what a small world, haha! I’m from Washington State.
I would go with Tony and eat raw sushi 🙂 , but I do love agedashi tofu. So good!
They all look so yummie…but sushi is my favorite…
And I am inRedondo Beach, CA
Guess WHat! I Work thursday!
Yahoo!
Everything looks yummy. Sushi is impressive. I like to snack on almonds also, but I usually have some fruit chunks, blob of yogurt and toasted almonds on top. It’s a nice afternoon treat.
Thanks for your comment – holy smoke! A mustard museum? I have never heard of such a thing.
Your blog is very interesting. Is it sad that I’ve been sitting here for twenty minutes trying to decide whether you literally ate two almonds or if you were using the ter “a couple” loosely?
Ha – it was only two almonds!
I’m with you on the appetizers – love gyoza and the lobster spring rolls look delightful! Now I’m definitely in a mood for Japanese big time!
Honestly, I think your Huevos Rancheros B-fast looks the best – ha ha!
Love the sushi!!!
Usually I get rolls (I’m super picky about which ones, too, so I never share with other people), but recently I went all raw and had a bunch of sashimi on top of greens. It was delicious.
beautiful eats, and that wrap looks good!
I’m in Virginia 🙂
Wow, that is some serious yum there!
San Diego, California
Oh, I love that Dashi tofu! You have such goog taste 😉 Also, I love that you can throw together an impromptu stir-fry and it looks like something out of Cooking Light or something!
I am from a small town in Northern California 🙂
Yeah sushi! If I didn’t love everything on the sushi menu, I would go full out on the raw sushi. But since I always want to have some of the other dishes, I usually get a few with some sushi. I always make sure to get in a piece or two of salmon sushi though – it’s my favourite raw 😀
Spokane, WA!
California.
I love the “real deal sushi.” Hubby would join you for the appetizers though… 😉
Indianapolis, IN!
Sushi is not for me…ick, seafood. But your huevos rancheros looks like our breakfast tacos, which I love!
Texas, baby!
What a great idea! Columbus, Ohio, GO BUCKS!
I just love your breakfast wrap, it sounds, and looks amazing. As for the sushi, I like it raw baby! Not to say I don’t like the cooked/hot apps, but when I’m eating sushi that’s all I’m about (plus the ginger!).
ALL RAW BABY!!!!! Its rare when I have a cooked piece or two at sushi 🙂
The place we went to is in rolling meadows, but there’s one in elgin too!
Really?? My husband went to a place in Chicago before!
Actually, The place I went to was House of Kampai in Mount Propect Illinois. Maybe a mile from O’hare. They offer the floating sushi boats. Quality takes a back seat to ease of grabbing!
I’d eat with you and Hannah!
Oooo, Biz, you crack me up! Two almonds??? I wish only two almonds would do it for me.
Your sushi adventure sounds great! I would probably go the sashimi route, with maybe sharing a little tempura veggies. I usually get miso soup and salad, too.
I’m in Half Moon Bay, California, near San Francisco. Too many great food places around here (including sushi).
Wow! Lots of delicious eats… especially your breakfast.. I love some some spicy food too!! yum!!
I’m from Ontario, Canada. 😉
