First of all, my photography is no where NEAR what PW’s is, but dinner turned out really good. A few differences – I left the onions out of the sauce completely!
![P5230020 No onions allowed!](http://biz319.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/p52300201.jpg)
And I used fresh tomatoes to make my own tomato puree:
![P5230022 a touch on the tart side, but with the carrots and added sweet red wine - it turned out!](http://biz319.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/p5230022.jpg)
Here is a simple way to get out tomato paste – open both sides and just slide it right out – no need for a tiny spatula!
![P5230028 no waste and no mess!](http://biz319.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/p5230028.jpg)
![P5230034 here is how it looked after its simmered for an hour](http://biz319.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/p5230034.jpg)
And thanks to my friend Robin Sue at the Big Red Kitchen, I used parchment paper to transfer my bread dough to the heated baking stone in my oven – never thought of that before!
![P5230035 waiting for the oven to come to temp!](http://biz319.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/p5230035.jpg)
![P5230036 28 minutes later - yum!](http://biz319.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/p5230036.jpg)
It’s hard to believe that the pasta is just 2 cups of flour and four eggs!
While Pastor Ryan dug his hands in, I prefer the fork method:
![P5230040 I start by mixing the egg yolks in the middle](http://biz319.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/p5230040.jpg)
![P5230041 and then I scoop the flour from the sides down into the middle - this time I added 2 tablespoons of water to get the right consistency](http://biz319.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/p5230041.jpg)
![P5230043 I wrapped it up and left it on the counter for 1/2 hour while the water boiled](http://biz319.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/p5230043.jpg)
![P5230045 I rolled my pasta in a rectangle and used my trusty pizza cutter to make the noodles](http://biz319.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/p5230045.jpg)
![P5230046 I put all the pasta on a paper plate - it all stuck together - not to worry! Once I put it in the boiling water they separated](http://biz319.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/p5230046.jpg)
![P5230047 it made a lot!](http://biz319.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/p5230047.jpg)
![P5230048 my plate - with a bit of fresh grated parm - yum!](http://biz319.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/p5230048.jpg)
I definitely would make this again – but would try using semolina flour to see how that changes the consistency. Tony liked it and Hannah ate the meat sauce – so its a win in my book!
The house is clean, clean shets on the bed and now I am off to snuggle with Tony. We have lunch with my SIL, grand-newphew and step-son tomorrow – at a fabulous Mexican restaurant! See you then! 😀
What a great tip on getting the tomato paste out the can 🙂
thanks for the tomato paste tip – genius!
Mmmm, everything looks awesome!
Great tomato paste trick!
We tried making pasta last Valentine’s and it wasn’t as successful as this! I think it was because I tried to make it wholwheat and it was just REALLY chewy!
I have never seen a straighter hand cut noodle! Wow. Mine would have been sooo very messed up. The bread looks great too. Thanks for the shout out!
love the homemade pasta!!! looks delish!
What a great meal!! Way to go with making your own noodles! That bread? Fantastic!
Ahh clean sheets – simple pleasure 🙂
This is cool! Making your own pasta sounds fun – I was always a little nervous to try it but maybe it’s not so hard. I might end up eating the raw noodles though. When there’s dough I can never seem to keep myself from eating it, even if it’s not sweet.
Happy Sunday 🙂
Oh thank you so much for making this!! I saw it on PW but it looked too intimidating. I trust it if you say so! 🙂
I use that trick for the tomato paste too – I love the little “plop” down into the sauce. hehehehe I’m 2 at heart!
You cut the noodles so straight! Ryan-worthy for sure! It all looks great
For some reason when stuff comes out in the shape of the can it was in it makes me smile 🙂
