The weather is so weird today. This morning it was bright, sunny on the warm side. Then the winds started to whip in. We just finished mowing the lawn when it started to sprinkle. I think the storms were north and south of us, because it never really rained all that hard. Before doing the lawn though, I made breakfast with my quail eggs.
Each quail egg is only 14 calories and 1 gram of fat! They were really hard to crack though! Not sure if there is a trick to that or not.
The lawn took about 45 minutes – I am a complete moron when it comes to any kind of electrical equipment. The lawn is Tony’s area, so it is out of my comfort zone. It seriously took me about 18 tries and 15 minutes just to back the mower into our shed! Bottom line is although its not as pretty as when Tony cuts it, it looks better than it did!
We decided to eat lunch out today. I ordered something called a “grilled chicken crisp wrap with watercress and red pepper aioli.” As soon as I saw aioli, I think olive oil so I asked for it on the side. The bartender gave me a quizical look and when I got it I realized why – it was red pepper hummus! It was one pita, that was baked so it was crisp,
I also ordered a cup of their southwestern corn chowder, but they forgot it. The bartender, which we later found out was the owner, was so apologetic he brought me cup – I definitely have to recreate it – it was spicy, the corn was crisp and it had a few tortilla chips on top for added crunch – I forgot to take a picture though!
After lunch we drove to find the farm where I’ll be getting our summer vegetables. Next week they’ll have herbs for sale and we plan to go back. We met the owner of the farm and actually had a 20 minute conversation with him about the farm and its history – it was very interesting! I did find out that you have from 10:00 to 1:00 on pick up day to get your box, otherwise they sell it! Good to know!
So while Tony and I were standing on this farm, the temperature dropped about 20 degrees in 20 minutes! So weird!
Now Hannah and I are off the to library, probably the thrift store and then to Bed Bath & Beyond for a couple things. See you for dinner – not sure what I am making though!
weather is so weird lately! today we hit 80F and now it’s all gray and probably going to rain!
cute quail eggs…I want to have some too! 🙂
Crazy weather here as well!! That red pepper hummus looks fantastic – I didn’t think aioli was the same thing as hummus? Maybe that was the restaurant’s term? Enjoy your evening!!
Sounds like a fun day, but some crazy weather!
Weather is a fickle thing. It would be neat to try quail eggs!
I kind of like mowing the lawn. It’s grueling, but it sure feels good once its done.
Very cool that you got to go out to the farm you’ll be getting your produce from. The whole CSA program seems really interesting. I don’t think we have anything like that where I live in Canada. I know there are lots of farmers markets though.
