I found two kinds of fish that I like! I know I need to incorporate fish into my diet, but I don’t like “fishy” fish! I’ve tried tilapia, but it has this weird aftertaste that I just couldn’t get over.
My two choices?
I beer battered the mahi mahi – I am not going to post the recipe – the batter was a tad thick so I am going to tweak it – I ended up using only about 2 tablespoons of oil to fry all the mahi mahi:
Since the sole was kind of thin, I decided to Pam fry it with fresh cilantro and taco seasoning – it was really good!
I also made a salsa that was Bobby Flay’s recipe where you make it on the stove – I had these tomatoes from the $1 rack!
I will post this again when I tweak the recipe – I was able to resurrect it by adding more jalapeno and fresh cilantro!
Okay, quick post since I am watching The Biggest Loser right now! We will discuss tomorrow! Night!
I watched part of BL last night. I had no idea there were so many from Michigan! Holy cow!! Your tacos sound fantastic!
Sole is very mild – I usually pan saute it in a little bit of olive oil, with some salt/pepper/lemon juice. It’s a very thin filet so it cooks really quick. I would never have thought of adding cilantro and taco seasoning – sounds yummy! I’ve only had halibut in a restaurant, it was very good. And I agree, salt-water/ocean fish tastes better than fresh-water.
Thanks Momma! I think you would have liked our fish tacos!
Oooh, yum, these look so good!
mmm…i love fish tacos! i’ve never tried them with sole before.
I don’t eat any fish, but I haven’t tried many to be honest, maybed I would like some of them.
Your dinner looks fantastic!
Salmon was the only fish I would eat as it’s not a fishy taste or smell. It’s so easy to cook aswell.
I find salmon to be the less fishy fish… especially fresh salmon! they’re so easy to make and always taste delish! 😀
Is mahi mahi DOPLHIN?! You ate Flipper?!
How do you feel about monk fish? That’s a GORGEOUS fish, very meaty. Pics are making me drool! xx
That’s what I thought the first time I heard about mahi mahi, but its not related to our dolphin friends!
Never had monk fish, but its an ugly looking fish – I’ve heard its very meaty – I’ll have to venture out and try that sometime.
hmm usually, fresh fish won’t be fishy. can you imagine one eating sushi with smelly fish? *gag* 🙂 happy cinco de mayo!
One of our favorite fish recipes (except I hate cod, so we use catfish, which is somehow less ‘fishy’ in this recipe): http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/roasted-cod-with-lima-beans-recipe/index.html
Neither of us is a big fan of lima beans, but they are delicious here. Lots of lean protein and fiber…
Fresh fish should never be “fishy” smelling/tasty. Otherwise it’s not fresh. You might enjoy halibut if you can get it – it has a very meaty texture that makes it a good fish for those who like meat. Plus it’s quite mild, and makes wicked fish & chips. I’m partial to any ocean fish, I find they are much cleaner tasting than fresh water.
