Over the weekend I bought a pint of raspberries for .99 cents – score! Except. . . not so much. When I got to work to put my breakfast parfait together, I popped one in my mouth and they were so sour. I don’t mind sour, but with plain Chobani AND sour raspberries, I ended up adding a couple squirts of sugar free pancake syrup in my breakfast parfait. Then it was the perfect balance of tart and sweet. The 15 calories of whip cream on top didn’t hurt either.
So I still have a bit of lingering cough and a little bit of congestion. It was a perfect 75 degrees outside, so I decided to walk outside.
Well, my blood sugar dictated that too – it was only 154 when I left on my walk, and after 30 minutes of walking I could feel the sweat start and I know my blood sugar was dropping. I just had leftover beef stew and a slice of my bread for lunch. I decided not even to test my blood sugar, just eat and then test it and adjust with insulin after the fact.
Well, it must have been low, because AFTER I ate it was 118! Which is normal, but I didn’t take a unit of insulin with lunch. And my lunch was chock full of carbs too!
While I was walking I got a message “your timehop is waiting for you!” One year ago? I made this delicious pad thai soup for one. I need to make this again and ignore the fact that it has 3400 mg of sodium (look away Skippy . . . look away!) Oh, and speaking of Skippy, I have her whole family using the word AMAZEBALLS! Love it.
Two years ago? My last road race. Seriously I would have sworn on a stack of bibles it was last year. But here’s the weird part. I almost didn’t run it because I was just getting over bronchitis and had only worked out twice in a month – maybe this is just my time of year to get sick?
And guess what I weighed up in the picture?
And guess what I weigh today?
While I love the Zero Scale because it just tells you if you are up or down for the week, and not the actual weight, I realized I needed to get a grip and really see what that number was. Helen, I didn’t even realize until recently that you could actually use the Zero Scale as an actual scale – ha! It’s all those licks, tastes, extra bites, nuts, extra glasses of wine that have added up as of late. I need to nip it in the bud before I step on the scale and see 18_ something.
I ended up making chili mac for dinner. A childhood friend of mine sent me more of his peppers (although NO ghost peppers this time!) and I chopped up a Thai pepper and put that on my chili.
Is it just me, or do you guys routinely make way too much pasta?? I served us each a cup of angel hair, and I had all this leftover – gah!
So here is how I look at it – I am really only 13.6 pounds away from the 150’s – 159 to be exact. I would love to start off the new year at 159. Easier said than done, but I just had to put it out there to keep myself accountable.
On a fun note, I got a call from the Limo company that’s picking me up in New York next Monday to confirm my flight information. It’s becoming more real that I’ll be in New York this time next week! I still have no particular details, all I know is that a week from today is the actual cook-off. I plan on doing a practice run of my recipe over the weekend. I was nervous about it last week for some reason, but I am just going to go in with quiet confidence and hope for the best.
Alright, time to get my stuff together. I still have a bit of a cough, but it’s not as bad as it was yesterday – let’s keep our fingers crossed that it continues to get better. Make it a great day!
Oh, I almost forgot – check out Courtney’s totally cool giveaway! I have no decorating sense at all – Courtney’s house looks like it could be in a magazine. She’s giving away this piece of wall art:
Good luck!
I always make too much pasta on purpose. After I use it for whatever meal I’m making I like it for lunch with just some butter and parmesan.
I always cook too much pasta too. Recently I got a free measure unit in my grocery store for pasta and rice and I’m using that now, works perfect.
As for raspberries, they are too expensive here too to buy fresh so I always use frozen ones.
So exciting for your trip to NY!
Wow, less than a penny for a pint of raspberries? That’s pretty good.
And I love that wall art. I’m going to make my own digital version of it and use it as my desktop wallpaper. Then every day I can read: “LIEVE RE IS IN THE WORLD.” What does it mean? We’ll probably never know, but the beauty truly lies in the mystery.
Lieve Charlie,
Let me solve a little bit of the mystery. Lieve is actually a Dutch word (I’m Dutch) and means “Dear” so when you say Dear Biz, I would say Lieve Biz
Sorry I spoiled your mystery a bit 🙂
Practice makes perfect! And you will succeed! How exciting. Have fun and enjoy the Big Apple. You will have time to do that, won’t you? And thanks to you, I am now in the mood for Chili Mac!
Ugh I have a head cold myself. I sound worse than I actually feel. At least I can still run since it’s not in my chest. I hope you feel better before NYC. I’m so excited for you! What an amazing opportunity. I know you can reach your goal of 159 by the New Year. I’ll be cheering you on Biz! I’m getting back into my groove finally. I am hopeful that I’ll maybe finally reach my own weight loss goals by 2015 or at the very least be closer than ever.
Oh for goodness sake – evidently you are not like me and read the manual with each new gadget. I definitely knew it was also a regular scale.
I hope you’re feeling much better by the time your trip comes around. If you keep getting sick this time of year it might actually be allergies you know!
Yup, tastes, licks, bites, and a little wine sadly do add up quickly. But I KNOW you can get to 159 by the end of the year! I think having a firm goal during the holidays is actually really helpful! 🙂
I’m very excited for you for your NYC trip!!!!
Whoever won for the salsa contest?
Hey Danielle – blog reader Susan won the salsa . . . its at the bottom of Monday’s post. 😀

New York!
Licks, sips, bites, and tastes. It really sucks that once you hit your 40s you have NO wiggle room. At least i don’t.
Hey, how about a trip to Socal? I need the sleep whisperer. No sleep at all in the hospital. Grrrrrr.
You’re probably going to be bizzy bizzy next week in nyc but if you have any extra time or want to have a blog meet up let me know!
You can do it!! Cheering you on to hit that 15_ !! ps: don’t worry about the contest–you’ve got this 🙂
Since I started taking a daily probiotic two years ago I haven’t had any colds, sniffles or flu. They are not cheap but they are so much better than being sick and having to go to the doctors for anti- biotics. Try it and I hope you feel better soon! Your food looks a amazing, and good job on really looking at the scale number there are 16 weeks left of this year so you could totally be at 159 by or before the start of the new year.
Oh my gosh Biz, so kind to mention my giveaway – I really appreciate it! Thank you!
And I saw that chili pasta on Instagram and was drooling – looks amazing!
It’s an amazing giveaway – too good not to share!
