If you follow on Insagram (mybizzykitchen) then you already know that Tony got home last night!
When I went to the hospital before work yesterday, I woke him up. It was just before 7:00 a.m. I stayed for just over an hour but no doctors came by. He was able to order off the regular menu, no diet restrictions, and ordered the fresh fruit plate with yogurt and granola.
While it looks pretty, the cantaloupe and honeydew melon were no where near ripe. Tony told me it was super crunchy to eat. Oh well, what are you going to do. I accessorized my breakfast with another English muffin and some scrambled eggs and bacon to make a breakfast sammie at work. I still got the employee discount so it only cost me $2.31. I brought one of Tony’s yogurts on the side. I was out of Chobani and Tony likes having Yoplait with cereal for breakfast. For the record, the breakfast special for visitors and hospital staff? Biscuits and gravy – gah!
Maybe it’s because I’ve been eating Chobani for so long, but this tasted so artificially sweet and it looked like creamy Pepto Bismol. Ew.
Only one tiny problem about not eating the yogurt. I had already given myself insulin in preparation of eating it, and since I didn’t before too long I could feel my blood sugar dropping and it was 64. Damn. I didn’t bring anything for lunch because I had to buy some stock paper for work and when I told my boss I was going to run that errand and pick up lunch she said “No! We have too much work to do – make someone else do it.” Um, well, there is only one other secretary, but she was able to run the errand for me. Still didn’t have an idea about what to have for lunch until I suggested to my boss “Do you want that Pad Thai from across the street?” She said yes, so that meant she would be buying my lunch too – score! And they deliver! I sent an email around a couple other people went in on it too.
I had a plan though. Since I knew I was going to be at the hospital for dinner last night, I decided to create my own lunch and dinner – I bought beef on a stick $2, chicken on a stick $2, brown rice $2 and Szechuan green beans $5. So for $11 I got this:
I ended up chopping one of the beef sticks, one of the chicken sticks, half the brown rice and chopped up half the green beans. I tossed that mixture in one packet of the sweet and sour sauce with some sriracha and my stirfry was delicious! Best part – I had the second helping ready to heat up at the hospital – no hospital food for me! And doesn’t every office have a cutting board?!
So I get the hospital and Tony said “get my clothes, I am going home!” Awesome! We still don’t have the results from his biopsy and won’t until Monday – we have an appointment with his GP on Monday to go over everything. Um, Tony doesn’t know it yet, but I really want to go to that appointment. But here’s the deal – from the time they say you are okay to go home, until you get that precious yellow envelope with all your instructions –takes forever! They told him around 9:00 a.m. that he was going to go home and the paperwork was being processed. However, with so many doctors involved, each doctor has to sign off on his release and by 3:00 he was no closer going home. I got there at 4:30 and we finally left at 5:30 – with the yellow envelope!
He still doesn’t want anything heavy for food, so I made home some orzo with a little bit of butter. I ended up having a gyros on one of my homemade pita breads. My store sells gyros meat for $4 a pound and when you buy that, the tzatziki sauce is free. Just chopped up some romaine and tomato and I as good to go.
He kind of dozed off and on last night – and at one point I suggested why don’t we just go to bed and he was like “I’ve been in bed for the last 5 days!” So true. I went to bed and he came in sometime later. I didn’t even look at my steps yesterday, just took my fitbit off before bed. I was shocked that I got 9,000 steps without a workout – I was super busy at work so it paid off!
Today I have laundry to do – I am sure Tony is going to continue to take it easy. I have to work at the restaurant tonight and my firm is having their 3rd anniversary dinner tomorrow night that I have to go to. I think Tony planned this whole hospital thing just so he would have to attend one of my firm events – ha!
Thanks for your continued support, well wishes, emails, etc. – it means so much to us! Have a great weekend!
Glad he’s home and things are looking up.
I love to see how you handle food situations with such creativity! Eating on the go, or of course in the hospital can be horrible for making good decisions, but you seem to have a good handle on it!
I’m so glad to see that Tony’s home! What great news. I can’t believe the meal you made out of those basic takeout ingredients. Your bowl looks 10x better than the original order!
SO glad to hear he’s finally home!
I am glad Tony is home!
I am also glad that I am not the only person who cannot stomach Yoplait. That stuff is disgusting.
Yay for Tony going home!
I think honeydew melon is the most difficult fruit to get to proper ripeness. I don’t bother buying it at the market, and I usually don’t bother selecting it if there’s a fruit tray to be eaten – it’s always underripe. Who wants crunchy melon??!!
Wow. that Thai food combo you ate for lunch sounds delish!!
So happy to hear he’s home.
LATE TO THIS…but YAY none the less!!!
Great news that Tony is home, hope you had a good weekend together. I do follow you on Instagram but I never look at it. I am already busy keeping up with blogs and FB, can’t handle another thing that I have to check every day 🙂
Very glad Tony is home!
So glad your hubby is now home. Hospitals can be pretty dismal and a bit scary. I hope all turns out well for him on Monday. Take care…
Yay, Biz! Been waiting to get the word that Tony was going home, and here it is–along with some serious drool over a store that sells prepared gyro meat. Oh why, oh why do I live in some remote spot on the California Coast?
Good news that Tony is home! Hospital food is awful! If I ever have to be hospitalized again Ill have hubby bring be real food for home!
I saw your IG picture about going home and was super happy. I hope that Tony feels OK during the weekend and that you can go with him on Monday to hear the biopsy results.
Glad to hear Tony is home. Least this time you did not have to battle cold and snow while Tony was in the Hospital. Hope it is good news on Monday. JP has an appointment on Monday with a specialist, and I am going with.
Food is looking good. I made steak Fajita’s last night….my goodness….very good!!! Will be doing that again.
Well I missed your blogs about Tony needing to get a biopsy but it’s not too late to pray for him now, which I am. Poor guy has had a rough time! And the stir fry you made looks delish – smart thinking!
SO glad hes home! That does look like a pretty good meal for hospital food! Bummer the fruit wasn’t ripe enough. I totally agree with you on the yogurt front- once you eat REAL yogurt…its impossible to go back to the fake junk. <3 <3
Hospital food is such an oxymoron. Patients on my unit routinely gain weight because the patient kitchen is chock full of graham crackers, peanut butter and ice cream…mix it all together and you’ve got yourself a nice fattening little snack. I see patients eating it first thing in the morning. Ridiculous!!
I’m so glad to hear that Tony is home. Have a nice weekend Biz!
Glad to hear Tony is home! Uh, I love biscuits and gravy but the hospital’s looks disgusting!! Maybe you can find some that’s tasty when you are in Lubbock. We lived there for four years. Wonderful people but the dust storms were terrible!! Hope you have good news from the doctors next week.
Best,
Bonnie
