Friday morning I had to do a Sam’s Club and Walmart run on my way to work to stock up. They had trouble with my card, I switched out a card from an attorney that left, and took over that membership. A month ago I got my picture taken, all was well. But each and every time I went there, they kept trying to charge me $20 bucks as an add on, when I was just replacing an existing membership that wasn’t up for renewal until September
I was getting mad at the cashier. I slowed my roll, realized it wasn’t her fault and quickly wanted to open up a can of whoop ass at the front desk. She kept telling me that she couldn’t find the attorneys name that I replaced, and I kept trying to tell her “it’s because I removed his name and added mine!” Needless to say, she wanted me to bring paperwork from the office, and proceeded to charge me $20. I was fuming! (and later realized my blood sugar was low – a lethal combination!).
Then I went to Walmart. This old couple was blocking the only aisle I needed and I could feel my anger coming back, when all of a sudden the old woman said “we just moved here from Central Illinois, pork capital of the world, and this Walmart is nearly as big as our whole town!”
We talked for several minutes, I could feel myself calming down and when we parted ways she said “appreciate your youth, because before you know it, it’s gone.”
So weekends for me are busy – I never really relax until night time. I always feel like there is so much I have to get done, laundry, meal planning, cooking, etc. Tony and I love a particular beer called Boddington’s. I am happy that he does like another beer other than Miller Lite! A few weeks ago we googled to see where the closest bar was that had it on tap, and were shocked to find out that an Italian restaurant 2 miles from our house carries it!
So after running a few errands, we found ourselves at this bar for lunch. We sat down around 12:30, and sure enough, we saw the Boddington’s on tap.
If you ever see this beer on tap, please try it. The first sip is always the best. We then ordered lunch – I ate 1/3 of this giant sandwich and about half the tots. Generous portions – this plate was only $8.95!
We spent the afternoon getting to know the owner, Vincenzo, who was born in Italy and reminded me exactly of the actor who played Tony Soprano with his voice and mannerisms. I talked to a patron Dennis who sat next to me, who was an insurance agent. An older couple sat at one end of the bar, so cute, and when they left they said “see you next Saturday!” I asked what the story was with them, and the owner said they had no children, but come in every Saturday for a couple drinks and they bring him cookies from a bakery.
Usually if I start to see my Saturday hours float away I get anxious thinking of all the things I could be doing, but after that little old lady said to appreciate my youth, I didn’t feel guilty at all about spending an afternoon out with my hubs. It was a lot of fun! Then we came home and took a two hour nap together – it was glorious!
By yesterday morning though, I had to be a bit more productive and was at the grocery store by 9:00 a.m. The store wasn’t crowded, it was great. Here’s a tip to ask your deli. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but see if they sell “cheese ends.” It’s the last bit of cheese that they can’t slice and my store sells them for $2.49 a pound – when can you get a pound of cheese for $2.49?
I take out spicy cheese, and then just throw all the cheese in my food processor and make my own shredded cheese.
I used some of that cheese for brunch yesterday to make an egg white, zucchini omelet. Tony last week “accidentally” put a can of corned beef hash in our cart. In this month’s cooking light they had a recipe for light buttermilk biscuits – so easy they were ready out of the oven in 20 minutes. I’ll be posting that recipe tomorrow, but they turned out great.
I cooked up my SIL’s food and then before I knew it, it was time to go to my Mom’s concert in Oak Park.
They did the music of Motown and it was really a fun concert – you did great Momma! The pushpin is where my Mom was!
My sister and Hannah and her boyfriend made the concert too. Here I am on the left, Hannah and Jenn.
I kept trying to reach for Jenn’s boob in the picture, but she’s not as crazy as I am! I didn’t care who was walking by!
Mom then took us out to Burger Boss for dinner. This is the place that The Sandwich King filmed at a while ago that my sister went to.
I ended up getting the Southwest Burger, hold the icky stinky raw onions please.
I ended up getting a single patty, which was below a 1/4 pound patty, so my burger was probably only 2 ounces? On the drive home I was thinking that the actually burger patty didn’t have much flavor, but with the chipotle sauce, pepper jack cheese and jalapenos, it was pretty good – with sweet potato fries on the side.
It was the perfect way to end the weekend – so nice to see you Mom and Hannah!
This plaque is at my grocery store and I’ve never even noticed it before – love the message!
And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for . . .
TONY’S VLOG DEBUT!!
Enjoy! Make it a great day!
Who wouldn’t love that video! ??? 😉 Amazeballs. 😉
I’m repeating what’s already been said but Tony is indeed a natural for this. I also loved the background music. I would only change his recipe a little bit and use much less soy sauce. 🙂
You ladies all have gorgeous skin and apparently the anti-aging gene. Great photos. Oh my gosh I love the Vlog. Tony was fantastic. I also loved the background music. Nice touch.
My grocery store has a bin in their cheese case full of all the ends and small leftover pieces, I stalk it weekly 🙂 Tony’s tutorial is awesome, I especially love the music in the background. He must be a riot to live with.
What a lovely Sunday.
And Tony is a fantastic guy, I love his voice and his humor.
Thanks Fran!
That was pretty epic. The music really made the video. Does Tony have any other culinary delights he can cook for us?
We are at the drawing board on that one – while Tony is a great cook, since I hog the kitchen all the time we’ll have to come up with something else he can make. 😀
Omg! Loved the vlog! Tony is hilarious….when will you do a vlog?!? 🙂 Bob and I decided we should have a blogger meet-up the four of us and go out for dinner and drinks some night. I think we’d have a blast. 🙂
I think we could have a lot of fun Michelle! 😀
That’s nice that you spent the afternoon together and got to relax. It’s so nice to be able to do that occasionally 🙂 Since you like spicy, I’m wondering why you take the spicy cheese out to make grated cheese? Maybe because it’s for your bosses food too? I will have to ask for cheese ends. Mr. Bizmoto’s vlog was great, loved his jokes and the music was perfect! Awesome video you two, I have just pinned it 🙂
I take the spicy cheese out of the grated cheese because Tony can’t handle the heat, and it’s wasted on him anyway – just more spicy cheese for me! 😀
OMgosh, Tony needs his own show! I bet if he started doing youtube cooking videos, you’d make a lot of money off the ads clicked! AWESOME! So hilarious.
Food Network will be calling any day now, I KNOW it!!!!!!!! Hahaha, that was awesome!
It never ceases to amaze me how many great dishes you come up with week by week. I cooked a lot this weekend and I think I am done for a few days 🙂
Cooking at the end of the day just calms me – nothing like spending just 30 minutes in the kitchen at night. 😀
Hahahahahhahahah……what a great video!!! Now that is a recipe that will stick in my mind every time I go to the store……”Let’s make Tony’s fried rice” tonight!!! I liked your running video too with Tony encouraging you on……Run Biz Run…..good work….funny Tony!!!
That was some good words from the old couple, life really is too short and we don’t take time to enjoy cause we are so busy and stressed out trying to get everything done…..sounds like you had a nice Saturday. Relax!!!
I shall have to check my blood sugars when I find I am angry or crabby….guess I did not realize angry and crabby equals low blood sugar. Food pictures all look great!!!
I forgot that you guys would see the rest of the videos we have up! And yes, anger or being short is a sign of low blood sugar – it’s the only time that I get mad!
Hey! Some corned beef hash jumped into my grocery cart this past weekend too! Looks and smells like dog food, but I love the stuff! 😀
Ha, you are correct that it looks like dog food, but it sure is tasty dog food! 😀 YOLO!
Tony is hilarious! I see a cooking show in his future!
Bravo, Tony & Biz! Great demo, and so funny! Thanks for sharing your humor and Tony’s mad wok skills with us!
Hmmmm, I wouldn’t call Central Illinois the pork capital of the world, more like the CORN capital! But hey, listen to the elders, Biz! What do I know? LOL. The church your Mamas concert in was beautiful! Btw the beer looked delish…I’ll have to check the points on it! Had my first alcoholic drink since I’ve been on WW and it was about 10 points…of course I didn’t plan ahead and checked AFTER I had it, but it was so good.
Ok….I’m LOVING the video. I knew I would! I purposely waited until I had time to check it out on my laptop (I read your blog from my phone each morning), and man it was worth it! Tony is truly hilarious and you were a great camera woman! The music just made it even funnier. I really hope you two do more of these.
I wish I could remember what town she was talking about! Thanks for the comments about the video! 😀
That video is hilarious, I love the background music!
Great pics of your family, too bad you didn’t get to cop a feel! Your hair looks great by the way!
Thanks MJ – with my hair shorter I think it feels less thin for some reason. 😀
What a fun weekend! Tony is awesome – you have to let him do this again!
We will, we just have to think of something else he could make!
Tony is killing me! At first, I thought he was going to say “and I like long walks on the beach” – his intro reminded me of a cheesy dating site! Very funny – he could have his own Food Network show!
I had had to watch the video again–still just as funny the second time around 🙂
Awesome advice from the old couple! Tony’s video cracked me up!!
Love that video! That rice looks like the bomb!!!! I’m going to try and whip some of that up for dinner next week.
Loved it! And I can’t wait to try to make my own, mmm… fried rice! 🙂
GREAT advice from the couple. I try to remind myself of this often. I have a tendency to get fired up too quickly. Glad your time with your family was awesome. That burger looks like something Josh would go NUTS over. We just planted jalapenos. Can’t wait for them to grow. The video!! Carrots from the earth hahahhaha. Tony is hilarious. I like the term amazeballs too Biz ;). And extra soy sauce just makes it more yummy
Glad your launches went well over the weekend Erica!
I taught both of the sons of the owners of Galati’s! They have such great food 🙂 Love Tony’s vlog 🙂
Small world?! We haven’t eaten there in years, so glad to have found it again. 😀
Ok, this video cracked me up!!!! When is he getting his own show on Food Network?!?!?
I am sure that they will be calling soon!
Too funny Biz – Tony is a natural…and the music was enchanting!
Glad you liked it Jody!! 😀
