10 years ago today I had my first date with Tony! We had talked on the phone for probably 20 hours before we met. I was just coming back from visiting my brother Charlie in Des Moines for the Memorial Day weekend. You new readers can read the story of how we met here.
It really was love at first sight. Two days before we were to get together for dinner he asked me where I wanted to go. I replied “I don’t care where we go, what we eat, what you wear, or what I wear. I only want . . . you.”
Okay, you are going to think this is weird, but I bought these at the store last week and they have been in my fridge ever since. Truth be told, I was kind of scared to open them! Sophia, have you ever seen canned hard boiled quail eggs before??
I was also afraid at what I would see (or smell!) upon opening the can!
I dried some off on a paper towel.
And guess what I decided to make with them? Breakfast pizza! Except I used a light flatout wrap, 1/4 cup pizza sauce, 5 quail eggs (only 39 calories for 5!) and 1.5 ounce mozzarella cheese. Baked at 375 for 10 minutes.
The perfect bite splashed with Tabasco! The quail eggs taste exactly like real eggs, except the yolk tasted way creamier to me, almost like a deviled egg filling! this whole pizza was my breakfast: 268 calories, 24 carbs, 23 protein, 12.2 fat and 10 fiber.
I wanted to do the bike machine again at lunch today – I had hopes of doing a 10 mile trail, but the longest one was only 4.4, so I did that one twice, and then a 1.5 sprint ride at the end. Can I tell you I love seeing the finish line? And you know what I pictured? All the 39 other 101 Days of Summer challengers lining the sidelines and cheering me along – so thank you to everyone for virtually pushing me!
Lunch was more stir-fry – the closer we get to the end of the week, the less creative my dishes are becoming! Lunch comes in at 315 calories, 44 carbs, 20 protein, 3.8 protein, 3.8 4.8 fiber.
Most of you know I hardly ever eat snacks. But since my breakfast and lunch were so low in calories (not intentional!), I had two snacks: 1/4 cup almonds and 1 oz. of peanut butter stuffed pretzels, or i.e. crack pretzels! Snacks totaled: 278 calories, 21 carbs, 9.1 protein, 18.9 fiber and 3.9 fiber.
For dinner I defrosted two kinds of meat – one small steak that Tony and I split, and one giant chicken breast . . . or so I thought! When I went to take it off the grill I realized it was two small ones stuck together, so I had to cook the “inside” a couple more minutes!
The temperature dropped last night and it was so comfortable on the deck while I grilled. Love the view from our deck!
My plate: 4 oz. steak, 4 oz. chicken, 4 oz. rosemary potatoes and 1 tablespoon of Buffalo Wild Wings spicy sauce. Dinner: 617 calories, 39 carbs, 78 protein, 14.6 fat and 3.8 fiber.
In the mail I got these True fruit things. At first I thought it was like Crystal Light, but upon further investigation, turns out its like have a “squeeze of fresh fruit” in your water.
I had the lemon one in my water at dinner – and while it did taste like lemon, I think I’ll stick with the real thing. Have you seen this before??
And the lovely Katie J made a badge for our 101 days of summer challenge! As soon as she emails me her summer goals, we’ll be a group 40 strong! Feel free to put the badge on your blog if you like! Still not too late to join! You have until Saturday, June 5 – send me an email at bdl319@gmail.com with your summer goals and I’ll add you to the list!
Guess who got up at 5:45 this morning? Yep, that would be me! As soon as I hit publish, I am getting changed to do a Group Power class at my new gym from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m.! Erica said it’s a lot like the Body Pump class that she teaches, so I am excited!
Stats for Day 3:
- 1,478 calories, 128 carbs, 130 protein, 50 fat and 23 fiber
- 47 minute, 10.3 mile bike ride
I’d say this challenge has lit a fire under my ass so far – how about you?!
Awwww, I love the story of you and Tony. Congrats on 10 years!!
I’m gonna be honest here – canned eggs creep me out. It just seems so wrong!
How sweet you still have that note! I got chills! So nice to see and hear about such a happy marriage!
Happy Anniversary to you and Tony! Love the love note. 🙂
And yes, I’m jumping on the 101 Days of Summer train….! Will email you the details today ~ I promise. 😉
HUGS from Orlando (oh, and thnx for feedback on the yogurt!)

This challenge has totally lit a fire under my ass! I’m finding a way to squeeze in longer and harder workouts and making better food choices. It’s great! I love it!
Congrats to you and Tony! Too cute!
10 years!! Woo hoo! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
Biz, I have tried quail’s eggs. I ADORE them. That’s the only time I actually like hard-boiled eggs. But mine were fresh, and I’ve never tried the canned ones before. LOVE how adventurous you are! You’ll do fine in Asia if you ever visit! 😀
I have been missing out on your blog Biz! Sooo busy at work! Glad the challenge is going good. I love how much you love pizza. I could probably eat it everyday especially if you were making me pizza haha…..mmm looks sooo good!
Happy 10 years! How wonderful!
I would have been a bit scared of the eggs in a can too! I’m glad they turned out tasting good! Your pizza looks great!
Sigh, I love first dates. Too bad we can only have them once with our men. Ours was at a NJ diner. We both had turkey clubs, FF, and iced tea. Such boring food, but 10 days later we were saying “I love you!” So mushy. Well congrats to you both, you seem super dooper happy!!
You are such a romantic!
Quail eggs? No. No no no. I don’t do miniature food – don’t get me started on baby corn…gives me the heebie jeebies something fierce!!!
Congrats on 10 years!
Wow, I didn’t know you could buy quail eggs in a can! I always love your breakfast pizza!
happy 10 years! what a great story……those quail eggs would scare me too! good for you for trying them 🙂
You are a brave woman for eating eggs out of a can! I don’t even like the hard-boiled eggs you can get at the grocery store (in the egg section) that are pre-packaged. Something about them just looks fake to me! Great job on the cycling! Today is my day off from the gym but I will work extra hard tomorrow!
I’ve never tried quail eggs but now that you said they taste like regular eggs, I won’t be as intimidated given the opportunity. 🙂
Jenn
All the food looks great! Okay – the quail eggs are suspect, but I trust you about the food, Biz, so they must have been okay.
I lol at the “crack” pretzels – amen to that. I could no more eat “1 oz” than I could eat 5 single potato chips. Not humanly possible.
Love the badge for the challenge – I’ll be putting it on my sidebar next time I stop by own blog, which is about every 5 minutes.
Gorgeous view from your deck…my son lives in Chicago, but not with a view like that! Go Flyers!
Happy 10th date anniversary! 🙂 Here’s to many more years of feelin’ the *looooove*!!! (That should be intoned in one’s best Barry White voice, of course. Why yes, I am in a silly mood today!)
I might have to get canned quail eggs for my husband; he loves deviled eggs. (Gah! I can’t stand them, but I like making them for him–I put a little horseradish in them for a spicy kick!)
And way to go on the challenge! That bike machine sounds like so much fun! 50 gazillion TVs at my gym…and not a thing I enjoy watching! YAWN!
It’s kind of interesting that you mention Barry Whites voice. I used to leave messages on Biz’s voice mail as Barry White. Those messages typically were not romantic, Barry would accuse her of stealing his Butterfingers and Baby Ruth’s. I always thought Barry was a large man, and food might be on his mind more often than romance.
aw happy 10 year dating anniversary! how cute :).
peanut butter stuffed pretzels are definitely my “crack snack” haha.

Let me just say the food looks delicious, and can you tell how you made the rosemary potatoes? I’ve never been able to make them right. Weird because potatoes aren’t really hard, but maybe you have a trick I don’t know.
Hey Laura! I used new potatoes, simply because you don’t have to peel them! I put them in a pan with a bit of olive oil and about 1/2 cup of water, then cover them until they are cooked through – depending on the size around 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the lid, dump any excess water out, and add a tablespoon of butter, rosemary (I used dried), salt and pepper and cook about 5 – 10 minutes more until crispy. 😀 Hope that helps!
Happy 10 yr dating anniversary!
My mom used to buy canned quail eggs when we were kids. I don’t remember what she used them for, but I sure do remember snagging a couple when she wasn’t looking. The insides are creamier for some reason. Funny how everyone thinks that canned eggs are weird, but that Eggland’s Best bagged hard-boiled eggs are a good idea! 🙂
I got a sample of that true lemon/lime stuff too and it was a no go for me too. It’s no skin off my back to buy a lemon and slice it for the real thing!
awe love at first sight! i believe in it, and i think what you wrote was one of the most beautiful things ive ever heard/seen of in so long <3
Congrats on the 10 years!! 🙂 And I have never seen quail eggs as something you could purchase let alone eat. I think you are very brave for trying them. And I loved your ingenious idea of adding them to breakfast pizza!
Aww you guys are adorable! Johnny and I met online too. I love having a “hard copy” of all our first interactions like that – it’s terrific to be able to go back and see love blossoming. hehe Congrats to you and Tony!! 🙂
How cool are those eggs!? I’ll have to look at my store’s ethnic sections and see if I can find anything like that. Definitely would be a cool Friday First!
I love those TJ pretzels! My Grandma got me hooked on them!
Mmm your steak looks good – hehe I’d give the chicken to Ed and just eat the steak! 😛
I just got those free samples too!!! I haven’t tried them yet, they’re still on the counter. I usually add a squirt of bottled lemon juice to water to liven it up, so we’ll see how this compares. I think the lime and orange options are interesting.
And I LOVE the button, it is so cute!!! Proudly adding it to my side bar right now!
Onnn second thought I’ll have J do it tonight. haha I can’t figure it out. 😛
aaahhh…what a beautiful email!
I’ve heard of people trying quail eggs but wouldn’t even know where to buy them! Is there a benefit to eating quail eggs vs chicken eggs? Or just the “creamier” taste, as you described?
Great job on the bike ride!! I was up and at ’em at 5 this morning…we’re all a bunch of early birds this summer 🙂
Quail eggs? never tried them. You’re off to a great start…run, eat well, lose, win, yay!!!!
I would be so totally skeeved out by eggs in a can, but props to you for trying them out!
Congrats to you & Tony 🙂
Awww Happy 10 Years!!! 🙂 This month is 10 for me & my BF too! We can not remember the exact day we met…so we are celebrating the whole month! hehe Online dating works!!! 🙂
Eats look yummy as always! I love how much you guys BBQ! 🙂 I don’t think I would have opened that can of eggs. lol Weird huh?
Happy 10 year anniversary of your first date!
I don’t think I would have the courage to buy eggs in a can! Very bold of you!
Today will be my first run since joining the challenge – i’m excited! And thanks for the button – cute!
of course you made breakfast pizza!! haha
I’m still a bit in recovery mode from my HM so I figure next week I’ll have the fire lit for my challenge 🙂
The challenge has indeed lit a fire…but hot sauce on your steak? That’s Blasphemy!
Since you are new to my blog Al, you have no idea – pickled jalapenos and hot sauces are a normal occurrence here at BDL – I go through a 12 ounce bottle of Tabasco in about a month!
As I mentioned to you on my blog as well…I love it hot too, but God made beef perfect and it’s up to us to screw it up.
i like the stirfry- cant say the quail eggs didnt give me the willies though.. lol creative way to use them though!!
good idea with the challenge, i kinda wanted to have my own challenge too, maybe i should just join in on this one? think i can hang with the rest of you guys?! lol
Hell’s yes!! 😀
I’m a big snacker–but I like to think of them as many small meals instead of snacks, since I generally eat less food at any one time than most people. My doctor tells me I should never go longer than 3 hours without eating SOMETHING though, so I have an excuse.
Awwwwwwww, you and Tony were so meant to be!! 🙂
Your lunch stir fry looks awesome! I wish I was even close to that creative when it comes to lunches!!
I’ve never had quail eggs-they look interesting! Happy anniversary of your first date!!
I SO want a bike like the one you’ve been riding. How fun!
Girl you are rocking the exercise these days! I’m gonna feel really bad – and foolish if I don’t meet my goals what with how hard you are going at it! Love the badge, it’s going on my blog right now.
I’ve never tried quail eggs either, or heard of them. Interesting!
I am ALL about snacks! I am home all day with the kids so all I want to do is eat so I spread my meals out so I don’t have to go as long without eating. Like I’ll have my eggs at 8 and my yogurt at 10, then lunch will be leftovers at 12:30 and my salad at 2 or something like that. It works for me!
I made a new blog about my weight loss, it seemed easier that way. I’ll add the badge! Thanks!
10 years – so sweet!
I have never tried quail eggs. I would be scared too but they look pretty good!
