Sourdough Bread French Toast Sticks

These sourdough bread French toast sticks remind us of the Market Day french toast sticks from when Hannah was a child.  Looking back, I totally remember have around $30 in my bank account, but Hannah wanted the French toast sticks which cost $19.99 and I still bought them and thought to myself “I can live off of $10 until my next paycheck!”  Each toast stick is 4 Weight Watchers points, or 132 calories each.  These are perfect for meal prep too!

Ingredients

  • sourdough bread – I used homemade, but store bought is fine.  Perfect for when bread is a bit stale.
  • almond milk (or milk of choice – we initially used 1 cup but realized after making these that 1/3 cup would be just fine)
  • eggs
  • cinnamon
  • protein powder (we used FlavCity vanilla cream)
  • optional:  1 teaspoon of powdered sugar for drizzling

Sourdough Bread French Toast Sticks

Yield: 10 slices
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 8 minutes
Total Time: 8 minutes

These sourdough French toast sticks are a perfect meal prep for the week. Make ahead, freeze on a cooking sheet for 30 minutes, then store in a ziplock bag to reheat in a toaster or airfryer.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 loaf of sourdough bread (we got 10 slices - 370 grams total of sourdough)
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 scoop Flavcity vanilla protein powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Notes

Prepare the Bread:

Slice the sourdough bread into thick strips, about 1-inch wide, to create "sticks."

Make the Batter:

In a medium bowl, whisk together the almond milk, eggs, protein powder, and cinnamon until smooth.
Ensure the protein powder is fully incorporated for an even mixture.

Dip the Bread:

Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly coat with cooking spray or butter.
Dip each bread stick into the batter, making sure to coat all sides, but don’t soak too long to prevent sogginess.

Cook the French Toast Sticks:

Place the coated bread sticks onto the heated skillet.
Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side with avocado oil spray, flipping until golden brown and slightly crispy on all sides.

Serve & Enjoy:

Remove from heat and serve warm.

Optional: Dust with extra cinnamon, drizzle with sugar-free syrup, or pair with fresh fruit.

Can you meal prep these French toast sticks?

Meal prepping these sourdough French toast sticks makes busy mornings a breeze! Once they’re cooked, lay them in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for about 30 minutes. This quick freeze prevents them from sticking together, so when you transfer them to a ziplock bag for storage, you can easily grab just a few at a time.

When you’re ready to eat, pop them straight from the freezer into the toaster for a crispy, warm bite, or reheat them in the air fryer at 350°F for about 5 minutes. Perfect for meal prep, these French toast sticks are a delicious, protein-packed breakfast ready in minutes!
