When my Mom, sister and I were at Trader Joe’s over the weekend, this granola caught my eye at the check out. I first saw the word coffee and was like “sold!” I love granola but hate how many points I have to spend for so little food. Some serving sizes can be as little as 1/4 cup for 8-10 points! So I was thrilled that this serving size was 3/4 of a cup for 8 points. I added just 1/4 cup to the top of my parfait and it was delicious. You definitely taste the coffee! Check it out next time you go to TJ’s.
It was another busy day at work, but I sound like a broken record when I say that. One of my bosses is going to be out of the office tomorrow so I had to get a bunch of stuff done and couldn’t walk with my sister and her friend. I did manage to eat my lunch though at a decent time, although at my desk – I did put my dictaphone headphones on so no one bothered me for a full 30 minutes. Nice.
I bought some tomatoes over the weekend on the $1 rack and made my first batch of Baja fresh salsa – one of the very first recipes I ever did on this blog back in September of 2008! I used rotisserie chicken to make a taco type salad. Romaine, carrots, cucumber, the chicken, 100 calorie pack of guacamole and my baja fresh salsa as a dressing. Looks like a hot mess, but it was so good.
Worked a bit late again and by the time I got home, I wasn’t all that hungry and I had no desire to be in my kitchen longer than I had to. I just wanted to lay on the couch and catch up on The Voice. More rotisserie chicken to the rescue! I made buffalo chicken tacos – um, why have I not made these before?! I fried them up in a bit of grapeseed oil, and while the hot sauce bottle kind of got away from me on that first squeeze, I didn’t mind the messy plate. Thanks Hannah for taking the picture for me.
So here is the book that Roman chewed up. I’ve never ruined a library book before, can I just buy them a replacement copy? Maripat you would probably have the answer to this question! I told my friend Christina that I’d mail her this book when I am done with it, as long as she didn’t mind the chewed up cover š
Our temps haven’t been too bad, but still a bit chilly in the morning. I am ready to see some sun though, but happy that it’s light out by the time I get home.
I am working night secretary tonight, so I am going to spend the rest of my train ride taking a nap. I can pretty much take a nap anywhere, at any time. #itsagift š
Make it a great day!
Hi, Biz,
Technically, you’re supposed to pay for it (and there’s usually a processing charge which you will have to pay regardless). My library does take exact replacements (sort of frowned on, haha, but we do it) from Amazon or wherever. Then you only have to pay the processing fee. xo, mp
I knew you would know Maripat! I plan on going back this week before its due. Thanks š
I somehow just found myself on your blog after seeing you comment on the How Sweet It Is blog, but I just wanted to let you know that library book-wise, you should probably just give the library a call. I’ve worked in several types of libraries, and each one usually has a policy for replacing damaged books. Some are okay with you bringing in a new one, while others require a replacement fee. The latter is to generally to make sure that a) the book actually needs to be replaced (if it’s a book that would likely have been weeded, they might not buy a new copy, but use the money towards a new book), or b) getting a copy in good/new condition. This kind of thing actually happens often, from babies, dogs, etc.
Thanks for the info Anne Marie! I plan on going to the library on Saturday and see what their policy is. It’s seriously never happened to me in the nearly 45 years I’ve been getting library books!
p.s. I love Jessica’s blog š
I’m sure the library has a system in place but being the frugal person I am, I would go with a new or used book in hand and hope they will accept that. Of course, I would save the receipt to return it just case. Your tacos always look so yummy and fresh. Are those corn tortillas that you shape and fry into a shell?
I just love the water view you have. Is that out the back of your property?
I still haven’t taken time to visit our Trader Joe’s the coffee granola might be the thing to get me there. I’m all about the coffee.
You and I think alike Kym!
They are just regular corn tortillas but I nuke them for about 20 seconds before stuffing them and pan frying them so they are pliable – just a touch of coconut oil and coconut oil spray and they turn out nice and crispy.
That is the view of the river by my house from the train coming home. I live across the street from the channel of the river, so I have a water view from my living room. It’s like I am a country girl at night and a city girl during the day!
OMG, the granola is so good! Run to TJ’s!
Back in the day, we lost a children’s book from our library, and I couldn’t just bring them a new book – what would have cost me $15 ended up costing me more like $25 because they had to make a special cover for it, plus do the barcoding and security tag. Annoying, but I understood – overall, paying $25 for a lifetime’s worth of free reading wasn’t bad.
That’s true – and actually I live in the unincorporated part of town, so I shouldn’t really have a library card because I don’t pay for that privilege through my real estate taxes, so I’ll consider it a “donation” to the library! š
Oh no! I had a friend who posted on facebook that she spilled wine on a library book. (Drenched it really, she posted a picture.) She asked what to do and there were some great responses since it was a vampire book.
But the best answer was: “You probably need to go in and show the librarian and pay for it. Or go buy a brand new one and return with old one and say oops?”
They’ve got to have protocol since I’m sure it happens all the time!
Thanks for the info Carrie. I’ll just have to suck it up and pay for it. š
My dog has chewed up 2 of my library books. I just had to pay for them. Ugh. lol
I was thinking I may be able to buy it cheaper online š
I am loving your baby bump updates on the blog! I tried to leave a comment from my phone today, but not sure it worked. You look great!
Just being nosey Biz but with your commute and everything what time do you have to leave your house and what time do you get home? I hope you get OT for working late. I am pretty lucky with my job and feel I have no energy to get stuff done and I am a few years younger than you, I don’t know how you do it all!
Hey, that’s not a nosey question at all! I live 55 miles NW of Chicago . . . the “sticks” as some call it š
I am one of those people who like to get to work early and ease into the day, so my work hours are 9-5, but I take the 7:15 train which is an express (not that many stops) and I get downtown at 8:15 and my office is just two blocks from the train station.
I usually take the 6:00 train home (5:20 if I am lucky!) but the 6:00 train gets me home at 7:00. I actually slept for 30 minutes of my train ride this morning š
The train ride usually gives me a second wind on the way home š
