Hey guys – Happy Monday! This post is going to be really quick because it’s stormy and I shouldn’t have the computer on – good thing I can type 120 words a minute!
For the record, I had no mojo on Saturday to move at all. But, as luck would have it, I scored a pair of Saucony shoes at my local thrift store for $5 – barely used and when I got home I looked them up and they retail for $74 – nice! So when I got home I had to try them out and I did a quick 30 minute walk around my neighborhood.
Hannah worked the morning shift and when she got home after we had lunch, we were going to go to the YMCA where Jacob and Hannah belong, but Hannah asked if she could take a quick nap before we went. One thing I know about that girl is that when she decides to take a nap, she takes a nap and I knew 30 minutes later she wasn’t going to get up. I ended up going to my local gym and did a 5k:
We had hoped to go to a ribfest but the weather was crappy. We weren’t even sure if we’d be able to see the fire works near our house but the rain stopped.
I slept in until 10:15 yesterday morning – so crazy! I was determined to make yesterday more productive. I did laundry, did some cleaning, meal planned and grocery shopped. I made it to the gym again and I definitely had my mojo back – I ended up doing a 5k on the treadmill at 10% incline!
Right before I went on vacation, I was sent a Grilling Pack from Red Gold Tomatoes. Check out their Facebook page for a chance to win a Big Green Egg! I was making skirt steak tacos last night and decided to see if I could make a salsa with their canned tomatoes with green chiles. Truth be told, I never really thought of using canned tomatoes to make salsa. I had some dried pasilla peppers – all you have to do is soak them in hot water for about 3-5 minutes until they are soft so you can puree them.
- 1 can Red Gold Tomato tomatoes with green chiles (hot)
- 4 dried pasilla peppers (soaked in hot water for 3-5 minutes)
- juice of two limes
- 1 cup cilantro
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Just throw everything into the food processor and that’s it!
Guys – this might be my new favorite salsa. It’s smoky, has just the right amount of flavorful spicy – I literally could have made a meal out of just the chips and salsa!
I ended up buying a new scale yesterday at BB&B because I had a 20% off coupon. This Weight Watcher scale after the discount was $25. It shows your weight, amount of pounds of fat, etc. 172.1 pounds, 61.8 pounds of which are fat, I am 36% fat, my bones are 5.9 (which is normal for my age) and water is 46.8 which is also in range for my age.
Your BMI is 31.5, indicating your weight is in the Obese category for adults of your height.
For your height, a normal weight range would be from 101 to 136 pounds.
So yep, still obese for my height – so I need to kick my exercise up a notch and REALLY concentrate on what I put in my mouth this week. I enjoyed my vacation, but now it’s time to get back on track.
Let’s kick some ass this week – okay! Cheerleaders welcome – have a great Monday!
“One thing I know about that girl is that when she decides to take a nap, she takes a nap and I knew 30 minutes later she wasn’t going to get up.” <– Pretty sure my Mom stole your blog and wrote that!
I was shocked to read that you liked this salsa better than baja fresh. It sure looks a lot simpler! Salsa of any kind would have gone great with my tasting plate from lunch! It’s too fucking hot to cook (114 heat index yesterday, it was still 102 at 10PM, and today is just as bad so far). Will be doing a fitness DVD tonight with the fans going, cuz it's too hot to swim!
Ha – love it Erin! Sorry it’s so hot by you – I can’t imagine it being too hot to swim!
Obese? That seems inaccurate!
I love homemade salsa. Hopefully I can make some soon. Our tomatoes are still green.
If only I were 6 feet tall, I’d be fine! 😀
that salsa looks so good. Obese??? That is baloney!
Thanks Jan! 😀
101???? OMG, I know that is the low end of the range, but that seems crazy!
I agree – I think my lowest weight as a teenager was 116, but I was a four season athlete back then and worked out several hours a day every day
Great job on the working out! On your treadmill 5k’s…do you run and walk? Because that’s a nice pace and if you are just walking, you must walk fast! And 10% incline?? Woohoo!!
I hate the BMI scales. That is all. lol
Hey Amanda! I do walk, and because I am short, I think I do walk pretty fast. I try to be between 15-16 minute miles walking. Funny thing is if I run? I am at like a 14 minute mile – ha!
And agreed – BMI scales suck ass 😛
Very nice sharing. I have read your letter with my mother.Thanks.Good Luck
I make Pioneer Woman’s Restaurant Style salsa using canned tomatoes and it’s delicious! Also, that scale sounds great. I want! AND…we are the same height if I remember correctly (5’2″) and there is no effing way I would look healthy at 101 lbs! But 136… I would be happy with that!
I think I would look anorexic at 101 too! 136 is a dream weight though! When I graduated high school is was 116 pounds, and then went to play field hockey we did lots of weight training and I got up to 125 pounds and I was in the best shape of my life – I need to start concentrating on the weight training if I have any hopes of changing my body.
Salsa looks yummy and I, too, could make a meal of chips & salsa. What a unique scale! Does it have a name? Obese for my height, too. Hope to be in overweight someday. Have a great week!
I put the link above in Wendy’s comment – it’s Weight Watcher brand by Conair – it was the cheapest model – they had another one for $59 but I compared the two and couldn’t figure out how different they were so went with the $29 one 😀
Most of the salsas served @mexican restaurants here are made with canned tomatoes( except pico). I don’t like chunky tomatoes so I prefer salsas that are pureed. Great score on the shoes!! I would NOT call you Obese.
I don’t like chunky salsas either – who knows, maybe next time I might even add onions?!
Thanks sweetie – I appreciate it 😀
Let me know what scale that is. I’m shopping for a new one and I have a BB&B 20% coupon too.
Here you go Wendy!

That is one smart scale. How does it tell all of that just by your weight? Maybe your new favorite salsa? That is a pretty big statement when you compare it to your superb homemade salsa. Perhaps I will give it a try. You are doing great with your fitness from an outsiders perspective. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
Thanks Kym, I appreciate it! I had to enter my height and I step on the silver parts of the scale in my bare feet – not sure how accurate it is, but it would be nice to see some of those numbers go down! 😀
