Yesterday when I set out on my walk, I thought “I think I might need a jacket!” But once I got going, it was fine – fifteen minutes into the walk and it was up to 66 degrees – it was perfect!
I ate a handful of granola before my walk, then once at work put my breakfast together – I heated up one of my blueberry scones in the toaster oven under broil. Then I put chopped green pepper and ham in the bottom of the egg maker my Mom gave me, topped it with egg whites and finished it off with a bit of Cabot extra sharp cheese. And a dash of hot sauce.
Yesterday’s strength workout was for the back. I love doing this T-bar row – I actually used a 50 pound barbell for that exercise! That’s kind of what I look like when I work out – ha!
The back exercises only took me 20 minutes, so I had time to run 2.5 miles. Check it out – by 1:00 I had already hit my step goal for the day – bam!
So the other day I showed you my pizza burger – well, I made a really simple sauce that was enough for 3 dishes.
[amd-zlrecipe-recipe:64]
So I used one serving for the topping for my pizza burger. For lunch yesterday, I used another serving for stuffed zucchini boats. I just brought a whole zucchini to work, cut off the ends and microwaved it for 1.5 minutes, so it was still a bit crisp but tender. I cut it in half, scooped out the seeds and added the Italian sausage sauce to both sides, topped with some fresh mozzarella and finished it off under the toaster oven broiler. I served it with a side of strawberries and blueberries. This was so good – it looks like a lot of cheese, but it was only 1.25 ounces. Loves me some fresh mozzarella!
On my way home from work I had to get my eyebrows threaded. It’s been a while and Tony and I have a wedding to go to on Saturday. When I sat down the Indian woman said “that’s a lot of hair!” Duh, that’s why I was there! 120 seconds of sheer pain later, I was done. This morning my eye brows are just a tiny bit red, and by tomorrow they will be fine. Aren’t you glad I shared a picture of myself with no makeup!
Tony didn’t have much of an appetite for dinner last night, so whenever that happens, you know what my go to is . . . PIZZA! I made a simple pizza for one: 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon yeast, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 cup of water. Just mix that together and roll out and you are ready to go. I used the last two servings of the super simple sauce, then shaved asparagus and zucchini over the top, then topped with the remaining fresh mozzarella and a sprinkle of Italian seasoning. Baked it at 425 for 10 minutes on a pizza pan, then finished it off for five minutes on the lowest rack of the oven for 5, then a minute under the broiler. I ended up eating half of this.
And later in the evening I got this from Fit Bit:
Wow, close to 7 miles walked yesterday – that’s a new record for me, well on a day when I didn’t work at the restaurant!
So yesterday I was back and forth with Skippy via email. Check out her latest post. Remember about a week ago how I wanted to help her out with her medication? I wanted to do a Go Fund Me page, get social media involved, but she politely said that they would work it out, but she appreciated my offer. Well, yesterday I finally convinced her that I really, really wanted to help her and she finally said yes! But here’s the deal. The vacation money that she set aside for their one and only vacation this year was spent on her medication. My thought was that we could raise enough money to pay for the medication so they could still go on their trip which they were supposed to leave next week. But there isn’t enough time – even if we raised the money, you don’t actually get the money for 5-7 days – and next week was the only week her husband and daughter could take off of work and school. All she wanted to do was put her feet in the sand next to her family and look out into the ocean. She’s been sick for so long, she knows as well as anyone that each day is precious.
So now I give you Tony’s post:
Something changed in my life. I’m not sure what I did but my body seems to have had enough.
I used to think I was one of the Lords favorites. My boyish good looks and my wonderful bedroom eyes, all of this in one package. I have a full head of silky smooth hair and all of my teeth. Frankly it’s no wonder Biz jumped on the Tony train.
Some of you might know the lengthy list of illnesses and Titanium upgrades I have had in my body. To me, at first it seemed like repainting a van Gogh with barn paint. As the aches and pains continued I said “Slap some paint on that sucker”.
I currently face some kind of scary challenges, who knows how this will end.
Then last week, it happened again.
I was hit with something I didn’t know much about, Shingles. I now know a bit more about shingles…they suck so badly. It for me was some of the worst pain I have ever known for five days, and nights. I couldn’t sleep, frankly it didn’t matter what I did, and the pain came in waves. Pain so great I would not wish it on the inventor of hot sauce! I am not a stranger to pain and this was really bad.
This is meant as a cautionary tale. My advice, stay single. It hurts way less.
At this time I need to acknowledge Skippy Mom (Janine). I complain way more than I should, she is a tower of strength. I know for Biz and I she has our enduring respect.
We will be thinking of you on our trip to Mayo.
Tony
You and Tony are both AWESOME!!!! That is all! 🙂
I really hate complaining about all my life annoyances when I read about other people’s problems.
John had shingles a few years ago on his back. Ugh! Hope Mayo is worth the trip.
I would love to have your cooler temps – it was 91 degrees at 9 pm yesterday when I went to run :/
My daughter had shingles- hope Tony is feeling better.
91 at 9 pm??!! That’s crazy! While I am sure Tony wishes it was warmer, I am loving our weather!
I have had shingles and I agree they are terrible! I hope you are feeling better soon. Non of us really know what trials another person is going thru, we need to try to be kinder and more understanding of each other. Hugs,
I couldn’t agree more Sandi! 😀
I have enjoyed reading you blog for over a year now and I look forward to it each evening. I am praying for the best prognosis at Mayo.
Thanks for stopping by Karen – I appreciate it! 😀
Oh, no – poor Tony!! I have several friends who have had shingles and it was completely miserable for them!!! Hope he is better now!!
Beautiful pics of your walk love walking in that kind of weather!
Tony, your posts always make me laugh, you are too funny. I hope your shingles are gone and you get great answers at the Mayo.
Start something for Skippy and I’m in Biz, would love to help!
Thanks M.J. – I’ll keep you posted! 😀
I think you must have posted about Mayo when I was on vacay and I missed it! I’ve gone back and looked and still missing it…but, I’m so sorry that things keep hitting y’all one after another. You seem like good peeps and need a break! Will be thinking of you both…and SkippyMom too!
All I can say is that you and Tony deserve only the best!!! Go get em at the Mayo, show them that you are that beast!!!!!!!
P.S. The pizza looks wonderful! Great – now I want a pizza, pictures of food do that to me. Who am I kidding – I ALWAYS want pizza. Oh, and I would have eaten the whole thing 😉
Well, when we finally meet we’ll have to go out for pizza! 😀
OK that sauce sounds really good. Tucking that one away!
And Tony just can’t catch a friggin’ break, can he??
Nope, and he’s sick and tired of being sick and tired – hope we’ll get some answers! 😀
Hugs!
Thanks Karli! Good luck with your sale with your Momma this weekend!
So I come over here to read food porn and to ogle you getting skinnier and fitter, yet why am I sitting here snotting all over my keyboard? [sorry, but come on…I am in tears]
I can’t thank you both enough for your love and support. Truly, I can’t – I don’t know how, but I keep my snowmen out so I can see you both even if I am not “here” or in IL with you.
Tony you give me a helluva’ lot of credit. I do love you for it You’ve been through so much, so much more – and doesn’t it seem like it’s never going to end? I admire the heck out of you and your Biz – and I hope that Pooldad and I have the same strength and temerity to get through this too. I *think* we do – but man, would it end? Right? And I mean in cure, not um..the other… [you know me – I am never serious…we have to laugh]
We are praying and keeping you in our thoughts Tony. And Bizzy? I thank God everyday since the day I met you.
I love you both. And Tony, if you ever wanna swap meds, y’know – just let me know. giggle
Janine
I believe it was our mutual love of snowmen that brought us together Janine! 😀 I am still thinking of doing the Go Fund Me to take some of the pressure off of paying for the meds when we get back from Mayo – every little bit helps! 😀 Hugs!
My mum had shingles, I felt so bad for her — as I do for you tony! Sending you quick healing vibes.
Couldn’t all of us who wanted to just Paypal Shirley a little money? Maybe we could get her on a short vacation
And yes I meant skippy
Paypal takes time to transfer from paypal to your bank account too – I checked into it 🙁 Thanks for the idea though!
Oh no! My neighbor just got over shingles. Nasty stuff. Painful.
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and sharing kind words about my upcoming bike event. I really appreciate your support.
Shingles is horrible. Hope it heals quickly!
I make pizza all the time, too, so really enjoyed your recipe.
No problem – good luck at your race this weekend! 😀
Oh no, not shingles!! I work for neurologists and read notes every day about post-herpetic pain….I hope that you won’t have to endure that as well. I’ll keep you both in my thoughts and prayers as you head to Mayo, that the wonderful doctors there can get to the bottom of everything and send you into middle-age bliss! If you still need help after that, we have great docs hear at UWHealth 🙂 You both deserve some positive answers! Thanks again for sharing your stories and putting things in perspective for me 🙂
Peace, Lynne.
Thanks for the positive vibes Lynne! 😀
Tony’s ability to keep his charming sense of humor through all of these ordeals is awesome. xoxo
hey Biz..just wondering ? Have you noticed that your fitbit tracks steps when you are driving ? I really want one, but I’ve had 2 people tell me that they’ve noticed theirs is tracking steps when they are driving. They says sometimes as many as a few hundred steps on each trip. That adds up to a lot at the end of the day, and the little thing is pretty expensive to have that kind of problem. So, just wondered if you had noticed any tracking problems with yours. Thanks
A jacket??? This from the lady who was out walking at the crack of dawn in such freezing temperatures this winter. Tony, I am sure you are still “one of the favorites”. You have been blessed to have Biz in your life so to me that means you are way on top of the favorites list 🙂 The sauce looks amazing. Any thoughts on a stick blender you would recommend? I am going to break down and buy one.
I know, silly me thinking of wearing a jacket in summer! I have a super basic stick blender – it’s on and off – I think I got it at Bed Bath & Beyond for around $20? I love that I can blend stuff in the stock pot without having to spoon hot soup into my blender.
You know, that is an interesting point – I will check it on my drive home tonight – I never thought that my moving my foot while driving might add steps to the fit bit?!
Ugggggggggggggghhhhh I so hate typing on my phone ! The demons stuck in ” various” instead of “a” . Or maybe it is just too early in the morning for me to be doing this. LOL
No worries – I hope you had fun at Cracker Barrel – I love that place!
You are such an inspiration and motivator Beth! I wanted to share my stats from yesterday but not sure how; is it possible to be pleased but yet discouraged with my results??? I am off for my morning walk before meeting a friend @ Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Have various step filled day. : )

We will be right there with you Tony and our love and prayers will follow you. I had Bells Palsy a few years ago(though no pain) and that old Chicken Pox virus from childhood did a job, though I did not get all my left side back on my face, I did get quite a bit. Now I fight some liver issues too so life is often harder as we get a little older, but we just keep on keeping on. I did discover old Tumeric and Milk Thistle and what a difference. So there are answers out there for you and we pray they find them all. Bless you and Biz!
Thanks Joyce – take care too! 😀
Gorgeous photos. Tony is right that somebody always has it harder than whatever it is we’re complaining about…thought about it last night when I was lamenting about a bodily pain, so I began to be thankful for all that is right.
Yep, that’s a good way to look at life – hope you had a great birthday!
mmmm that sauce! I could eat sauce alone 🙂 Always love to hear from Tony. Praying that mayo is an amazing experience for you all
I just love that I got 3 meals out of that sauce! Thanks E!
