Right after I shut off the computer Saturday morning, the storms rolled in – we got hail! Sorry the video is so shitty, but you’ll get the idea.

By the time we got up moved about it was 11:30. We hemmed and hawed whether we wanted breakfast or lunch, and lunch won. We ended up going to Texas Roadhouse – it opened up in the town next to us about two months ago. Problem was every time we got near the place, it was packed! Little did we know how big it was on the inside – but our server said that people can wait up to two hours on a Friday or Saturday night for a table – crazeballs! I would never wait that long for a table.
On each table? A big bowl of peanuts! And they brought fresh rolls with cinnamon butter. #bothinsulinworthy! Don’t worry – Tony and I were both giving a stink eye to the cactus blossom in the picture.
And, I may have had half a basket of fried pickles – they were only $4.99! The top ones were crisp and not greasy at all – the bottom half were very greasy. Tony only ate one and pretty much hated it.
Since this was basically going to be my breakfast/lunch and dinner I went with a burger with veggies on the side. I ended up eating half the veggies, half the burger and ate the other half burger when I got home from the restaurant.
Before I knew it, it was time to head to the restaurant. I still had to have a conversation about making sure that each server gets within the same range of covers. I got there at 5:00 – I didn’t get my first table until 6:30. One server had already flipped a table and had four others going in that time! I ended up doing okay, but having had at least two tables in the first hour and a half would have made a difference. I ended up walking around pouring water because I can’t stand just standing there. I still walked with $205 after tipping out – so for working 14 hours Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, I averaged $30 an hour – I can’t really complain at that! The co-owner of the law firm I work at came in with her husband and another couple – they had a great time and will definitely be coming back.
When I got home from work, I synced up my fitbit – yep, I am an overachiever!
Well, that is until I became friends with Kim – holy ballz does that woman get in a lot of steps! Fran and Shelley are kicking my butt too!
It was so nice last night when I got home from work – it was remarkably 70 degrees at 11:30 at night and we had the windows open – the breeze felt wonderful! We were just about to shut everything down to go to bed, when we both said “this seems like a good spot.” Tony put his recliner back, I grabbed a blanket and laid on the couch – the breeze across my face was perfect. Tony woke up an hour later and went to bed – I woke up at 3:19 (my birth date!) with huge storms so I closed the windows, shut down the computer and went to bed. Didn’t wake up until 9:30 – nice!
Tony made me another one of his amazing breakfasts – and even though this had a few burnt spots, it was actually really tasty. He used the leftover steak fries from his lunch the day before as the base instead of tater tots.
I ran to the store – spent $61.24 for the week. On the menu?
Dinners:
- Bay Scallop Risotto
- Chicken Quesadillas with Spanish rice
- Artichoke Ravioli with vodka tomato sauce
Lunches:
- Black Bean soup with andouille sausage x 2
- Potato soup x 2
Breakfasts:
- French toast sticks with strawberries
- protein plates ala Starbuck’s x 3
I have Friday off from work for Good Friday and I work Thursday and Friday night at the restaurant – Tony is on his own for those dinners!
Tony and I had a plan to meet up with one of the attorneys I used to work with and her husband and kids at a restaurant near both our houses. I used to play softball with her many years ago. I decided to make her a batch of my copycat homemade Nature Valley granola bars. I wrapped them up – how cute is that?! And the little bits and pieces that fell off, I just put in a ziploc so she could throw in yogurt or just have her kids snack on it.
She and her husband are super fun, her kids are well behaved – well, the little one had about enough at the end though – but she’s only 19 months, so you can’t blame her. It was so nice to get out, not worry about what time it was or where we had to be. Looking forward to hanging out with them when its bbq weather! We had apps of fried calamari, pretzel bread and jalapeno poppers – I had one of each. For dinner she and I both had a taste for wings, so that’s what I had. I was so busy gabbing, these were the only two pictures I took.
First off, Tony and I could be in a bar that had 300 beers on tap, and he will usually pick Miller Lite. Gah! I had a Green Line IPA that was amazing. Jacky, have you tried that beer yet? Tony? He had a Coors Light on tap. Um, pretty sure mine was better!
My wings:
It was a fun weekend – a mix of work and pleasure – and that’s all you can ask for at the end of the day, right?!
And you may call me the Queen of Maintenance! In nearly six months I’ve stayed within a pound of my weight. I need to step it up this week.
So….we are back to the chilly weather – I wore flip flops over the weekend and that was short lived. But I am going to bundle up and head out for a walk before work to get my steps in. I have a homemade protein box breakfast ala Starbucks and have potato soup for lunch. Make it a great day!
Our Texas Roadhouse is always packed, but when you finally get in and eat those rolls it seems worth the wait. 🙂 I love how you packaged those granola bars. So cute!
We have a kind of roadhouse restaurant here too, seeing it on your blog reminds me that it’s been a couple of years since we last been there, time to go someday again.
Looks like you had a lovely weekend with the combination of work and free time.
We were just talking about Good Friday here at work the other day. We have to work but we have Eastern Monday off. Only banks and insurance companies close on Good Friday these days.
My husband and I love the roadhouse ! The one near us does call ahead seating not sure if the one near you does but it’s defiantly worth it to Call ahead!
Wasn’t the hail INSANE??? I had a bunch of kids over for a playdate and they were just all screaming watching it, lol!
Those pickles look killer and so adorable on the wrapped up homemade granola bars, you rock!
Those rolls = unbuttoning my jeans on the way home. I have a weakness for bread.
Green Line is one of my favorites. FACT, it is a million time better than Coors Light.
I guess we all have opinions, yours seems to be incorrect.
Watched your youtube….sleet??? Uge. We woke up to 2-3 wet inches of snow today!!! Yep, I started singing “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” Bahahahaha!!!!
I’ve been to Roadhouse, too many people and tooooo noisy!!! But the food is good. Never tried their fried dill pickles, but I’ve had fried dill pickles before…..now a days they will fry just about anything….hahaha!
You sure had a busy weekend, but lots of fun too with lots of good food!!! have a great week!
Are we the only ones that don’t have a TR? It still amazes me that you and Tony BOTH don’t like onions. Sounds like a fun and productive weekend.
I love those rolls at Roadhouse – one of the few times I use butter because that cinnamon butter is awesome!!!
I’m with Tony – pass on the fried pickles. But when it comes to beer, I’m with you – try the new stuff.
So frustrating that your restaurant doesn’t keep the table seatings even.
I absolutely LOVE fried pickles. My favorite ones are from Buffalo Wild Wings, along with their buffalitos (essentially grilled chicken soft tacos with wing sauce). I’ve never been to Texas Roadhouse, the one here is super-popular as well and the one time we tried we were discouraged by the long wait. Our location serves lunch on Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays, so maybe I’ll have to go on a Friday lunch instead of dinnertime. I’m definitely not going to wait for a table at a chain restaurant!
You’re lucky, we didn’t get that warm weather on Saturday like we were forecasted, it stayed about 50 degrees all day. So disappointing!
I’m impressed with your steps! I’m totally getting myself a fitbit for mother’s day.
That other Shelley commenter with her name spelled correctly always gives me a start…I’m thinking “Did I already comment? I don’t remember saying that”!
Our Roadhouse is very crowded, but they have a M-Th dinner special until 6:00 pm that, if we go, we try to hit. If I’m trying to behave, I skip the rolls with cinnamon butter (even though they are really good, oh my!). I do love their house Ranch dressing – it’s homemade and really good. I guess I make up the skipped bread/butter calories on that dressing, LOL!
Mmm I love Texas Roadhouse, I like Hooters’ fried pickles better though. I also think I’m the only person in this world who isn’t a big fan of TR’s rolls and cinnamon butter…everyone gives me the WTF look when I say so. 🙂
Those granola bars look incredible! And I love frickles (they’re pretty much the only fried food I eat!!). Bummer about the table situation :(. I can’t sit and do nothing either. Hope it heats up for you!!
I love those rolls and cinnamon butter at Texas Roadhouse. I’ve only been there maybe 2-3 times ever, but I always remember that! Very strange about your tables in that first hour and a half, but you still made out pretty good!
Our Roadhouse is always packed too. We rarely eat there because of the long wait time. The few times we do we eat with the “blue hairs” as my husband says 🙂 If we go in between 4:30 and 5 we don’t have to wait. I’m jealous of the small amount you spent on groceries. I need to fly you here for a month and give me some “Bizzy” lessons in using up leftovers and meal planning. There is nothing wrong with maintenance. Keeping the weight off is one of the hardest parts.
Fried pickles? I don’t know if I’m willing to try any of those weird fried combinations out there these days.
I love Texas Roadhouse and eat there all the time. Those rolls with the cinnamon butter are seriously like crack.
