I think one of the first things you do after you’ve dated someone for a good length of time is to get out old photo albums and show them pictures of yourself growing up. Luckily for Tony, my Dad was an avid photographer and videographer. Although to this day I can’t get anyone to watch my field hockey games – any takers on that one?
One of our favorite shows is 30 Rock. We were watching one episode where Liz Lemon had a flash back, and Tony stopped it and said “holy shit – that looks just like what you and your sister looked like!” At first I was like, ‘”no it doesn’t!”
But then I got out one of my photo albums. The first picture is from 30 Rock.
And this picture – I think me and my sister ere probably in 7th or 8th grade? And why the hell are we wearing turtlenecks and blazer jackets??
I am on the left. Okay, so our hair was a little longer, but the glasses are spot on. Do you have a big glasses photo you want to share? Send it to me at mybizzykitchen@gmail.com and I’ll share them next week on Flashback Friday.
Breakfast was half of a baked potato. I scooped out the potato and sautéed that with shredded zucchini and egg whites, stuffed it back in the potato and when I got to work I cooked it under the broiler of the toaster oven with a bit of cheese on top.
It was a gorgeous day and I got my 10 mile bike ride in at lunch – I loved that it wasn’t windy. However, parts of it were ugly – just walking I am realizing isn’t challenging enough so some of the hills really kicked my ass. But I did it!
When I got back it was leftover lunch time. One cup of my pasta leftover from dinner out with my Mom and Hannah (although you can barely see it!) and 3 oz. of leftover flank steak and steamed broccoli. The only thing was that once I heated it up, there wasn’t much sauce, so I found some Bolthouse Farms 75% reduced fat caesar dressing in the fridge and dipped my steak and broccoli in that – it was so good – I need to buy a bottle of that stuff.
I had chicken that I needed to use up and when I started to tell Tony what is options were for dinner he was kinda like “eh.” When I asked him what was up he said “chicken is just so boring. Go ahead and make whatever you want.”
Usually when he says “make whatever you want” I make pizza or . . . tacos! Last night I made tacos. Although with the cooked chicken breast I added a package of this to the mix. I actually bought it at Menard’s of all places for .99 cents a package – there is even meat in it!
I cooked the chicken until it was almost done, nuked that package for a minute and then added that to the pan. That became my taco stuffing – just added cheese, green peppers, sour cream and hot sauce – oh, and lot’s of salsa!
I seriously could have Mexican food every day and never get sick of it. I also thought that I should send my future step daughter-in-law some jars of my salsa – I think she would love them!
Guess what? These are what the oranges looked like when I got home last night!
So last night I put out another fresh orange, and then cut up some tangerines. I joked with Tony that I thought with the baby tangerines I might get baby birds to stop by!
And as I type this right now, I have two birds on my table eating breakfast – love it!
Okay – be brave and send me your big glasses photos – I think it will be fun!
Happy Friday – make it a great day!
Ha! I did not have the glasses (but I have–ahem–readers now…) but they totally remind me of Junior Soprano!!
I never wore glasses. Love the flashback by the way.
I love Mexican food too but have to admit I make a lot of the same dishes. Time to try some new recipes.
Have a great weekend Biz.
Darn….I’ve only recently started wearing glasses (helloooo middle age!) but when you do flashback Friday with horrific hair…I’m your cover girl!!!! And if you do “wearing enormous shoulder pads” I’m your girl too. OMG…I was so NOT hot, though I sure thought I WAS hot at the time. I LOVE the birds eating orange pictures. AWWW. Have a great weekend Vat.
Love your big glasses! In a way, they’ve kinda come back in style b/c women wear those kind of frames in sunglasses. I sent you a photo of my mom’s huge glasses. I had some mandarin oranges that were about to spoil so I cut them in half and put them outside. It doesn’t look like the birds went for them but a squirrel at one half-lol!
I see the resemblance. I believe my sister had those same glasses, bless her heart. I tried making some tortilla chips last night. I baked them at 400 for about 8 minutes. They still had some chew to them. I’ll need to experiment a bit to get this right.
I haven’t been on a bike in years. Sounds like it was a nice ride.
I don’t know if I ever wore glasses THAT big but I will take a look 🙂 Tom could eat tacos every night, in fact, he eats nachos almost every day at lunch.
Have a great weekend!!
haha that cracks me up!
I don’t have any big glasses pics 🙁 I’d definitely send them if I did though!
I’m just now wearing glasses and only for driving so no photos to share yet, but thank you so much for making me crack up.
I could definitely eat Mexican food every day. I made the mistake of trying to go out for Mexican on cinco de mayo when we were away for the weekend. Bad idea! Every place was packed with hour or longer wait times. Needless to say we ended up eating pizza.
Have a fabulous weekend Biz.
Oh ma ga!!! The worst part is I loved those glasses! Ughh!
I would totally watch your field hockey games!
Yeah Jacky!! One taker! Seriously, whenever my sister and I get together with our twin friends, the Pom Pom videos win out!
LOL…I remember that 30 Rock episode and their big glasses totally reminded me of you and Jenn! 😀
I just picked up the Bolthouse dressing in caesar yesterday and have yet to try it. Glad to know it’s good!
I didn’t have to wear glasses of any kind until I was 42. No big ones yet for me but I might turn out to be a fabulous 80 year old with glasses that cover my face 😀
Have a great weekend Biz!
Aw, what a great treat for the birds! And about dinner- you can’t go wrong with tacos- ever. A lot of times I just mash up some chickpeas or black beans, throw some seasoning and toppings on them, stuff ’em into a tortilla and call it a taco.
And I totally had those glasses when I was in 2nd grade. And a very similar haircut to Liz Lemon (I didn’t see the episode because I just can’t get into 30 rock anymore…). I’ll have to see if my mom has a photo of me in them…
hahaha BIZ you and your sis were the cutest! My dad still rocks the big glasses to this day 🙂 we used to try to buy him smaller ones, but he just loves his old big ones so we gave up and decided to let him rock the 70’s glasses. I’ve been craving tacos like crazy lately, maybe i can find some time to cook this weekend! it’s been a canned soup, cereal kind of week this week. Or Kashi’s new frozen steamer meals which are actually delicious! Expensive but they will send out coupons for them if you ask 😀
i’m definitely going to fill my dad in on the orange trick. my mom got rid of all of his bird feeders because she was sick of the bird poop all over our deck. She’ll hate me for it, but dad will love it haha.
Have a great weekend, Biz!
I know you’ll find time in the kitchen once school is out – let me know if the oranges work for you! 😀
no no no…no big glasses shots for me. Well, I have plenty of them, they will stay where they are. In an album.
I’ll have to search for a picture where I’m actually wearing my big glasses – I usually took them off for pictures. And you and Jenn were wearing the turtleneck/blazer combo because you girls were STYLIN’!!! Love the flashback!
I have a large glasses photo but from the looks of it, I’m about 3 in the picture!
Oh my gosh that totalllllly looks like you guys! Awesome 🙂 I think your glasses are super cute. Now I want Mexican for dinner. Yum Yum! I wear glasses, but only right before I go to bed…so no pictures- that I know of!
I literally laughed out loud, by myself, in this office, at your picture! So funny. I have not pictures of big glasses because I still don’t need glasses other than to read. Figures I’d inherit good vision over beauty, as I always wanted to wear glasses when I was a kid. Go figure!
My mom had glasses like those, every time I see pictures, it cracks me up! I however, did not have big glasses 🙂
Mexican food is definitely my favorite, I would eat it every single day if I could. My favorite thing in the world for breakfast is chorizo (ground not smoked), mixed with refried beans and then in a flour tortilla(homemade!)…my dad adds eggs too, it’s delicious and now I want some!
Yep Sam, you are way to young to have been subjected to the big glasses era!
I totally had glasses like that and there is no way I am sending them to you! lol! Actually though, I don’t even have those pictures anymore. So sad, too bad! ha! I need to put some oranges out for the birds, that is too cool!
I totally had those glasses! I can think of one picture that is horrid of me but I don’t know where it would be. My dad probably has all of the pictures of us.
I could eat mexican daily too. In fact, I just had chipotle bean burrito glop on a corn tortilla with egg on top. I’m quite sure I’ll have bean glop for lunch as well. 🙂
Even though you described the food as glop, I am sure it’s delicious! 😀 Ask your Dad to find a picture!
