We have really lucked out weather wise in Chicago this year – I can’t even remember the last time its been this late into winter without a measureable snow! Tony probably thinks I just jinxed it by saying that out loud. 😀
Seriously though, with a gas grill you can basically grill all year long. It takes just a few minutes to get up to temperature and our front porch light is usually enough to see what I am doing.
I decided to make steak and chicken kabobs, then put them on a pita with tzatziki sauce. The meat was really flavorful, even only marinating for a couple hours – next time I will definitely marinate these overnight.
Kabob Marinade
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon tarragon, dried
- 1 tablespoon rosemary, dried
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- cracked pepper
- pinch of salt
I divided the above mixture into two bowls – I had 2 chicken breasts and 2 steaks and marinated the meat separately.
If you are using wooden skewers, make sure to soak them for at least 30 minutes, preferrably more, otherwise they will burn on the grill.
Best part though? Leftovers!
Hannah and I ended up going to the gym yesterday – we ended up swimming for 45 minutes and then hitting the hot tub. As deluxe as our gym is, I think we are going to switch gyms. There is a new Charter Fitness that opened up near our house – only $1 to sign up and $10 a month per person. Let’s just say I’ll pay less all year with that membership vs. the monthly fee at the deluxe gym!
While we will miss the pool and gym, it just makes sense. Do you have to have a gym that has a pool?
Can’t believe I have to go to work today – although I shouldn’t complain having a 3 day work week this week. 😀
I have a broccoli and bacon quiche in the oven, you’ll have to stop by tomorrow for the recipe. Hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend! Make it a great day!
I love marinating meat. I have a recipe similar to that but it also has greek yogurt which really tenderizes the meat.
I don’t belong to a gym but in our association we have a very nice pool and hot tub and our whole family uses it year round. In the summer I take the kids at least 3x a week.
WOW gorgeous pictures…I love grilling until late into the winter.
45 degrees to me is igloo weather. I’m so spoiled by the 70+ degree we’re enjoying here right now.
Sigh. I went to work today too! nobody was in the working mood though. We all slacked off and binged on German chocolate. 🙂
I love kabobs! We grill all year long here in Northern Ca. Winter is our rainy season so hubby puts up an outdoor umbrella and fires up the gas grill. Its been dry here so far this Winter, no snow for you – makes you wonder whats going on.
That gym membership sounds awesome. We don’t belong to a gym. We just got a treadmill for home and we have free weights and an exercise ball so we work out here at home. We have an outdoor pool but can only use it in the summer.
Your kabobs look amazing!
We belong to a very nice gym but get a super great deal through my brother-in-law. I know we wouldn’t pay the regular dues…
Hope your 3 day work week goes by quickly! 🙂
Happy Holidays Biz!
We haven’t grilled in a while but that’s all we do in the summer. Your kabobs looks so yummy!
I love kabobs! Something about meat cooked on a stick that is just plain awesome!
Our winters tend to be super mild. Sometimes I’d think it would be fun to live somewhere with distinct weather patterns though. Maybe someday.
Andy and I are both drooling, I showed him the kabobs and he wants me to make them. Can’t wait till we buy a place and can have a grill!
3 day work week or not, more time off is always nice! I wouldn’t want to go back either.
This looks just delicious! I have a friend living in Chicago and he told me how nice the weather has been. Great to hear!
I miss grilling! May have to bust my indoor grill out to make this! YUM!
I know about the weather; it was 75 at my parents and I even went to the beach in a shirt and shorts! I can’t remember the last time that happened!
This all looks fantastic! One of my friends is currently driving from Indy to Chicagoland and she said there’s snow…are you getting any?
We did not have a white Christmas for the first time in years. Either it is saving up for a whopper winter like last year, or we can hope for a mild one!!
We have a gas grill, but it just doesn’t stay hot enough to get the food all the way cooked, but then temps are maybe a bit colder here. In the 30s is just too tough on our little grill.
My gym does not have a pool. I am okay with that because I am not fond of swimming, and it means it only cost me $99 for a year membership versus $50 a *month* at the Y.
Your dinner looks so healthy – a welcome change from the last couple of days of ham and candy over here…
I like the new gym’s price, but I couldn’t be without pool access.
The weather here has also left us snowless and I am loving it. Although, they explained the jet stream has been responsible and it is shifting…so snow will be coming. Enjoy grilling until then!
I love kabobs, I found a great recipe this summer with sirachi, worchestershire and lemon juice. I need it to warm up so we can crank up the grill too!! We got 9 inches of snow Friday…and already had 3 or 4 inches on the ground from an earlier snow storm. Brr!!
I WILL stop by tomorrow for the recipe! Love that you grilled – looks awesome! One of my gyms has a pull – probably 4 lanes? I’ve never been in it. but it’s $30/month/person – not too bad! I kept it even though I have my work gym – I just don’t want to always go to work to work out you know? boo.
Wow! That gym is so cheap! How awesome. mmmm kabobs! I never make them- I have no idea why!
We’ve lucked out here in Ohio as far as weather goes as well, I’m hoping it can hold out just two more weeks so that I can make it back to Delaware without a snowstorm 🙂
I think it’s definitely smart that you’re switching gyms. Back in high school I just went to the YMCA, and there was a pool there. I’ve been using the base gyms since I got married though, and neither base has had an indoor pool. I’m okay with that though since the gym is free.
I.want.a.kabob. Now! I love kabobs but only think of them during the summer. We are getting rain today, so no grilling, but maybe tomorrow.
Have fun at work – but don’t work too hard.
Those kabobs look amazing! Yum!
Catching up from my break. So glad to read that you cooked a Christmas dinner. I think roast chicken is absolutely yummy. I just told someone the other day that this is the first year I can remember not getting at least a 6″ snowstorm before Christmas. Pretty mild weather predicted all week too.
Before I started Muay Thai, I belonged to a gym that was just $10 a month. No group classes but it was great as a basic gym. I can totally understand why you’d choose that.
Have a great (short) week!
