When I got back from WW yesterday, Tony always asks enthusiastically “how did you do?” Then I said happily “I only gained a pound in 2 weeks!” And I was happy because I thought it would have been worse.
That being said, how inspiring can I be in this holiday challenge if I don’t set a good example. I am 160 pounds and I want to start the new year at 150 – that’s only one pound a week and I am going to put the pedal to the metal this week.
Tony made me breakfast again yesterday, but I said “I need to count the points for it, so tell me what goes in it.” He simply made me salsa scrambled eggs – 2 eggs with 1/4 cup salsa and sliced pears on the side. No cheese or oil – thanks Tony! So breakfast was only 4 points (although I had a cheese stick at the WW meeting and a cup of coffee – so another 4 points for that).
Tony and I ran our errands and decided to go to Steak and Shake for lunch. I love their chili – just something about the flavor and texture I just love. Sadly, both our phones had low battery so I couldn’t look up any points. I decided to get the chili mac – spaghetti with chili – its only $3.79 and when the plate arrived I was pleasantly surprised that it was a normal serving.
This is a small plate, not a dinner plate:
I ate the whole plate, felt satisfied and guessed it to be around 10 points. People who are friends on facebook with me already know that when I got back to our car and plugged the phone in, that small plate of food came in at 18 points! Yep. What’s worse is that Tony’s frisco melt (thank goodness he only ate half!) came in at 32 points – 1193 calories and 93 grams of fat!
But the damage was done, I put it in my eTools and was happy that this was the beginning of my weigh in week – yeah to flex points!
Hannah and I went on a long walk yesterday – an hour and 10 minutes! The weather was perfect – sunny and around 60 degrees.
Then we ran a couple errands – we went to a local thrift store and I got this really cool lazy susan. It’s really heavy and has a wooden base. Tony thinks it is too big for our table, but I love it. š
We don’t know why we don’t cook turkey breasts more often because they are so good – this one only cost $6 and there are plenty of leftovers for me for the week. I just put sliced lemons under the skin and a mixture of cracked pepper, olive oil and rosemary and rubbed that over the top.
We did this one on the Weber – took about an hour and 10 minutes, then we let it rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. Tender, juicy and our dog loved the skin off of mine! I made twice baked potatoes on the side – dinner comes in at 9 points.
I said I was going to track everything, so I had 2 points of homemade tortilla chips (you know, for quality control!) and 3 points in “tastings” while I was making food for me and my SIL this week – I can’t wait to share one of the recipes with you – they had pork stew meat on sale for $1.99 a pound and I made a thai pork stew with red peppers and hoisin sauce and peanut butter – sounds weird, but the flavors are amazing.
I had Hannah try it, who doesn’t like meat that often, and she loved it! š
Hannah has to work this afternoon so we are meeting my SIL for an early lunch so I can drop off her food for the week. We are going here – not sure what I am going to order yet, but I am only having a banana and string cheese for breakfast – so this will be like a brunch meal for me. š
Then this afternoon I am going to do an exercise DVD and then its operation laundry and change of season clothes time. I also plan on putting my workout clothes together for the week. I had an idea – put each days work out clothes in a pillow case so that I can just toss the clean workout clothes in my bag, and when I come home just throw the dirty clothes right in the laundry and toss a new clean bag in. No excuses for me this week!
Oh, and I might be making Nicole’s pumpkin scones – they have been on my list of things to make since the second I saw them – turns out Tony bought me some pumpkin at Sam’s Club!
So if you have any pumpkin recipes – please leave me a link in the comments section. š
Stats for Saturday:
- 40 points
- 38 flex points remaining
- 5 activity points earned
- I didn’t check my blood sugar once yesterday!
Enjoy your Sunday? How are you going to succeed this week?
Why have I never thought to cook a turkey breast like that? Thanks for the idea.
I love to mix pumpkin into my oatmeal with some cinnamon. Tastes like fall.
I am always inspired by your emails. You’re real, Biz…that’s why people love you and come here to real of the good and bad times. Blogs are all rainbows and sunshine are not real life š
The turkey looks amazing! I wish I had mad meat skills like you! Meat still kinda scares me, especially big’ol pieces of it! I’m more comfortable with shrimp and scallop-sized meat š
KICK butt this week and I hope the scones turned out well! Off to read today’s post next!
I’m totally digging that lazy susan! Excellent find! I put my workout clothes in the same place every night so that they are the first thing I grab to put on each morning. It helps me get right to it first thing—well, that and Tucker. LOL If I was working outside the home everyday, I don’t know if I could do it! I am in total admiration of those who do!
My update post is here: http://www.emptynest1.com/2011/10/challenge-day_24.html
I recently made some pumpkin pie baked oatmeal but since oats aren’t your thing, I’ll share this recipe for some really yummy and easy pumpkin spice cupcakes (if you need to share some treats for anything): http://veronicascornucopia.com/2009/10/20/quick-easy-pumpkin-cupcakes/ I know you will do well with working the program this week, your determination has already got you so far! Oh and Aldi in Wichita has pumpkin again–i didn’t expect to see it b/c of the shortage, but they got some in and it’s $1 a can–more than last year, but much cheaper than Libby’s!
Thanks Veronica! Hooray for finding pumpkin! š

Here’s a recipe for Pumpkin Bread for you. My husband and son love it!
Love your blog… have tried many of your soup recipes… Love the Buffalo Chicken Chili and Broccoli Cheese Soup and Wisconsin Beer Cheese Soup. I am sure there are others! š Thanks for sharing your great recipes.
Thanks Kim – that sounds delicious!! š
Hi Biz! Well, I am doing great in the gym, I have been eating my fruits/veggies, but weight could be better. I’m exactly in the situation that you’re in. I could lose 10 pounds by the new year, if I stuck to it. Lately, I’ve been so preoccupied with office work/stress, but I bought easier food to bring to the office. Hopefully, I can turn this thing around.
I just bought a bunch of pumpkin too and made muffins today, yay! Hope you have a great week š
ooh I like that lazy susan!
I hope this week ends up going better for me. I’m still working on making the new blog! I think blogging helps me set goals in a way. I need to drink less wine, eat less cheese and lift weights even more!
I’ve been on a pumpkin binge lately up in hurr. It’s so good! Glad you found some.
My goal is to actually get moving over the weekend. My eats tend to be less strict over the weekend and I think if I moved a little, my choices may be better. I also want to hit a few 2 a days. I seriously can’t get enough Zumba and each instructor offers something different (different dances, toning, etc.).
Good luck this week!
I think you are eating great. As long as you are a conscious eater and aware I think your goals are attainable. I have a great pumpkin muffin on my blog but alas blogging is the only tech thing I can do. I don’t know how to link up the recipe but I will tell you that if you go to the October archives (on right sidebar) it is titled originally enough ‘pumpkin cream cheese muffins’.
I agree – great idea with the workout clothes.
And yay for pumpkin. I just love the fall – and pumpkin pie. š
Holy cow, what on earth are they putting in that to make it so many points!!!??? I don’t understand how restaurants manage to take seemingly “normal” home cooked food and up the fat and calories as much as they do. It’s just nonsense.
I weighed myself last week at my mom’s house and it was 5 pounds less than what I thought I was in my head. I’m not sure if it was a different scale, or what. I need to get a single scale to weigh myself on each week for consistency.
We just moved into a winter rental right on the ocean. Two days were spent heavy lifting and 100 trips up and down steps. My arms and legs are feeling the burn. I’m planning on walking walking walking walking my ass of on that beach out back between now and the wedding. Must. shrink. some!!!
Walking and running on the sand is such a great work out! So excited about your wedding – it will be here before you know it! š
Hi Biz, I haven’t checked in for a few weeks. Lots of changes in my life, but not ll of them have been the healthiest, but some have been wonderful.
The turkey breast looked amazing, we need to do those more often, I always forget about them when planning our weekly meals.
So, my goals have changed. We got great news, found out we are pregnant, very happy suprise š I am 10 weeks along and due in may. My daughter will be 2 years old when her sibling gets here.
So, new goals, meal plan for the week, journal all of my foods, every bite, even tastes while cooking and try to exercise everyday, at least walking. I have been lax with journaling and exercise. So, hopefully this week will be better. And hopefully something other than chips and club crackers with chocolate milk will sound good, lol.
Good luck with your goals this week, hope it goes great.
Ann
Congratulations Ann! So excited for you – I actually lost weight when I got pregnant with Hannah because I ditched all the fast food and for some reason could not stand red meat, so burgers, steak and tacos, etc. went by the way side – I craved veggie stir frys!
Hannah blames me for her not liking red meat to this day because I didn’t introduce them to her when I was pregnant – but she loves stir frys! š
I love the lazy susan, that’s awesome!
Great attitude Biz! I’m in the same boat. I weighed myself and was up 1.6 pounds. I felt defeated for a short time only though. Then I thought about why it happened. I didn’t track my calories. I had a love affair with peanut butter this week. I took three days off from activity. There you have it. Now it’s time to move on. Here’s to tracking my food, getting back on my marathon training schedule and no more peanut butter. It’s going to be a better week.
Love the work out clothes idea. Perfect!
The work out clothes idea is fantastic! Definitely more likely to happen if you already have everything ready. I know that you will do great this week!!
This week I’m going to make sure to track every thing I eat, and stop my late night snacking that has been happening the past few nights.
We don’t eat turkey breast that often either. I don’t know why because yours looks amazing! YUM!
Great idea with the workout clothes! I need to try that!
Great idea on the workout clothes, and I love that you are setting yourself up for SUCCESS this week!!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! š
