You all know I don’t do processed food too often, but when Jimmy Dean DeLites Turkey Egg bowls go on sale, I always get a few. They are tasty, and yesterday I kicked mine up with hot sauce an fresh baby spinach – this bowl comes in at only 6 WW points.
Later on in the morning I could feel my blood sugar dropping, so ate half of a banana muffin – I brought in treats to the office – just store bought muffins and coffee cake – I had no intention of eating any of it, but I knew I wanted to work out at lunch – so I had a 5 point 1/2 jumbo banana nut muffin. Not gonna lie, it was tasty!
So I was all set to leave to work out, and then our building has no water. One of my bosses is the office manager, she was on vacation, so I had to handle the situation. By the time that was all fixed, it was 1:20, and my window to leave quickly closed.
I did have a delicious soup though – I got it from the WW website.
Spicy Thai Beef-Noodle Soup (4 servings, 7 PointsPlus)
- 6 ounces rice noodles
- 1 jalapeno, sliced
- 6 ounces lean beef
- 7 cups low sodium beef broth
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (only 1 if you don’t use low sodium)
- 2 tablespoons cilantro (which I forgot!)
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- 1 teaspoon sriracha (or less if you don’t want it spicy)
- 2 cups broccoli
Put beef broth, soy sauce, ginger and sliced jalapeno in a stock pot. Bring to a boil. Add rice noodles – mine only needed to cook about 4 minutes. Remove from heat and add thinly sliced beef and broccoli – the broth will cook both the broccoli and beef. Serve with fresh cilantro. I love how spicy this broth is!
I did my grocery shopping after work yesterday and I think I like getting it over with on Friday night. The store wasn’t crowded at all. I was then going to meet Tony and my step-son out at a nearby Chinese restaurant. As I was checking out, I could feel this person next to me getting really close, and I am like WTF?! I turned around and it was Joe!
I was so happy to see him! We haven’t seen him since last December when he surprised the shit out of me – Tony figured it out through Facebook that he and his girlfriend were heading into town before Christmas last year, and since I have yet to jump on the social media bandwagon, it was a surpise to me!
Here are Joe and Tony from last Christmas:
And here is Tony and Joe circa 1991?
Is my husband a hottie or what?! Love this picture. 😀
I ended up having shrimp pad thai for 12 points with 1 potsticker which I am calling 3 points. No pictures, can you believe it! It looked like this though:
So I went into today’s WI feeling great. I worked out 330 minutes this week. I didn’t have my typical wine. I kept hydrated, even at night – so much so that Tony had to cut me off at 9:30 so I wasn’t up 5 times in the middle of the night to pee. So imagine my surprise when I stepped on the scale this morning.
Yep – UP 2.2 POUNDS! I can’t explain it. I know I had a slice and a half of deep dish pizza, two pieces of fried chicken and half a slab of ribs last weekend, but I was still within my point range – in fact, I still had 30 flex points at the end of the week, and I earned 24 exercise points.
At first I wanted to cry, but now that I am home, thought about it, I am letting it go. It’s one week in my life – it was a good week – I didn’t let some asshole teenagers bring me down and turns out I don’t need to have a glass of wine while making dinner.
So it’s all good. But cheerleading comments would be helpful! 😀
Busy day today – BBQ for my step-son and his fiance, so I have 11 people coming over. I’ve got typical bbq fare: hot dogs, brats, Italian sausage, pasta salad, fruit salad. Oh, and I may be making snickerdoodle icecream sandwiches – Joe loves cinnamon!
Make it a great day!
Give me a “B,”
Give me a “I,”
Give me a “Z,”
GO BIZ!!!
I have faith the scale will catch up with your efforts soon. Stay the course and don’t get discouraged, you’re on the right path.
Love the pictures of Joe and Tony. Hope you had a great weekend!
Rock on!
I gained weight this week to. I don’t know why because like you I was within my points and worked out every day. Hopefully next week will be better. We can do this!!
Stupid scale!!! I’m flipping it the bird for you. Don’t worry Vat, it’s just one week! You are doing amazingly well, so don’t let a bad weigh in weigh you down! (wow…wasn’t that profound??) Big hug across the miles to you!!!!!
Sounds like your going to have a great day with family. Enjoy!!!
Oh man that thai soup looks so freaking good right now!!! I don’t know what it is, but out of NOWHERE I love spicy stuff!! I’ve been putting hot sauce on stuff, wasabi with my sushi, and just bought horseradish crisps tonight that singed my sinus cavity. haha
That’s really funny about Joe. Last summer when my brother was in NC too I swear I ran into him 4 out of 5 times I went to the store.
Sorry about the 2.2 — could just be PMS. I find my weight fluctuates based on my cycle. That, or b/c you switched up your routine of drinking. Up this week, but down a lot more next week? One can only wait to see!!
Well, here’s what I’ve learned, trying WW for the first time after 40 (third time on WW)
I retain water much more easily. So, how much sodium did you have the 2 days before your weigh in? Any kind of fried or processed food will do it. I gained weight my first week, and it was the bacon. EVen though I stayed in my points.
Also, PMS. Can’t help but gain weight.
I get on the scale every day nowadays, so I can see how my weight fluctuates by 2-3 lbs for no reason at all. That makes me less frustrated with the official weekly weigh ins.
I agree that it’s probably water weight. That is a great amount of exercise points! You are an inspiration!
don’t let it get you down, seriously. sometimes i think we rely too much on the scale, there is a good chance you lost some inches, even if the scale isn’t showing it. just know that you’ve been really good to your body and that it’s going to pay off 🙂
joe and tony look a lot alike! what a fun surprise. i kind of like the jimmy dean breakfasts too, especially when i’m in a hurry.
have a great weekend girl!
I was thinking basically the same thing as most others – a bit too much sodium yesterday, that’s all. I remember when I was a weight-watcher I used to avoid all salt and sodium the day before weigh-in – it really made a difference for me. Great attitude – very inspirational! Have a great weekend and keep it up for next week! 🙂
Forget the stupid scale, you had a fantastic week and lots to be proud of!!
Have a great weekend Biz! 🙂
I can’t believe it was a gain! That stinks after all the hard work…
Just keep going, you could step on the scale tomorrow and it could be 2 pounds down…
Great eats – Have fun with Joe!!
IT’S JUST WATER WEIGHT!!! Don’t get discouraged!
Weight is SO weird. You may be up 2 this week, then down by next week – don’t be discouraged! Your soup recipe looks great (as always) and I loved how you fixed up the Jimmy Dean bowl!!
Such cute pics of the boys – that’s right – no facebook for you!
I will agree with everyone that sodium is definitely a culprit on the scale but I would also suggest that you maybe didn’t eat enough? If you had 30 of 49 flex points left from the week plus all the exercise points you earned but didn’t “redeem” I would guess your body is telling you it needs more food! If I don’t eat all my flex points and activity points, I don’t lose as well! So my suggestions: cut back on the sodium and try eating all those flex points. A little wine isn’t gonna hurt 🙂
That stupid scale. Sometimes that’s all it is. Last week I had the same thing happen – I couldn’t believe it. But this week it came right back off. Your attitude is so fantastic – you’re on the right track, my friend!!!!!
You did great this week, Biz!! Don’t let the nasty scale get to you! I’ll bet that you are adding muscle from your work outs! Don’t worry about the numbers…just worry about how you are feeling! 🙂
And this soup…YUM! I’m bookmarking it…you know I love anything spicy!!
You are so inspirational! I am so happy I found you. I wish there was a way to make asian food less salty! iT APPEARS TO BE SO HEALTHY!
I say watch your sodium intake this week – not just from meals out, but also things like canned veggies, soy sauce, hot sauce, etc. I bet you some of that, if not all, is water weight.
You have committed a WW crime! NEVER eat Chinese food the night before a weigh in! Oh well, it will look a LOT better next weigh in! You keep going girl, you’re doing great!
Oh, Biz, you have nothing to worry about!!you had Chinese, plus that breakfast bowl and soy sauce. I am willing to bet that it ain’t nothing but water weight, sweet pea! 🙂 weight fluctuations are completely normal, so I bet next week you’ll be down 3 pounds. Don’t wiry about it. I’ve been on this journey for awhile and I’ve learned that obe day, one week, or one month don’t matter; the big picture is what matters most. Whenever my sodium intake is high, I puff up like crazy, but it always comes off. 🙂
How are your pants fitting? Are your rings loose? Do you feel stronger? Can you run a 5K in 34 mins? That scale can only measure weight. The weight of water and the weight of muscle doesn’t matter to it at all!
Keep at it, Biz! You rock!
I just caught up with yours posts over the past few days and WHAT AHOLES! I am so glad you continued and didn’t let them get you down. UNBELIEVABLE, I tell you. If it makes you feel any better, I got asked last night at a family wedding if I was pregnant, from my uncle. Who later tried to recover by saying that it was because I was “glowing”. Whatever, dude. Damage is done. Put your tail between your legs and let’s both try to move on from this. Those moments in time we can either be the bigger person and take it in stride realizing that others are IDIOTS, or let some ignorant comment get us down. You and I chose correctly -screw’em! You rocked it OUT this week, RA RA RA!! (in my best cheerleader voice – which isn’t very good, I mean…I’m a hockey player!). The scale doesn’t tell all and you look FABULOUS!
Chinese food is SOOOOOOO high in sodium. Its probably that!!
You know that the scale does not always reflect the hard work we are doing. You have documented proof this week that you are eating right and working hard, so just keep at it and the number will go down eventually. Keep up the good work!
Aw Biz, I’m sorry to see you had a crappy weigh-in. Just think about all of those non-scale victories you’ve had these last couple of weeks, and remember the scale is not the best indicator of if you are healthy or not. I know you want to see those numbers keep dropping, but slow and steady wins the race! 🙂
OK that really sucks! But you have a great attitude. Move on. Next week we will both have a loss 🙂
Be proud of your accomplishments this week. Feeling healthy and strong is more important than a number. Have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy spending time with your family.
Next week you’ll be down 3! It is so easy to get frustrated and give up, but you’ve got a great attitude and you know you’re seeing off-scale results (the best kind). Can’t wait for my salsa! You’re the best Biz, we’re all rooting for you!
I agree 100% with Linablue, and everyone else. Shrug is off 😀
That 2.2 was all water. Last night shrimp pad thai. Totally. You had a rockin week.
Well, that was a crummy weigh-in! Wonder if the sodium from your lunch and dinner threw a kink into everything? I know, and you know, that the scale is not the ultimate measurer of health (it’s just a tool, and sometimes it can be QUITE the tool, if you know what I mean, lol), but it’s dang hard to take a bad weigh-in when you changed things up for the good this week. Let’s call it sodium and muscle weight, from all of your awesome workouts!
Have a great weekend – so glad you are getting some Joe time!
You had a good week!!! Don’t let that nasty scale tell you otherwise!!! It doesn’t know what it’s talking about… Your good choices and daily exercise will give you the results you deserve!
Have a wonderful bbq today. Snickerdoodle ice cream sandwiches sound wonderful!
