It’s so funny when I think how diverse our television show watching is. Since it was Thursday night last night, that meant an NFL game. Double bonus was that mixed martial arts was on another channel, so when the football game got boring, he would just switch back and forth. Tony was in heaven!
Me? I made a pot of pasta fagioli (I just did spell check on fagioli and it said “did you mean fagging?!) for my lunch today and then I watched an episode of Sing-Off and the last episode of Top Chef. It was a win/win for both of us! Do you and your significant other have the same t.v. show taste??
Of course, there are the standard shows we watch together: American Pickers, Modern Family, the Office, Raising Hope. I don’t even know how we survived so many years before a DVR!
I made breakfast nachos yesterday morning – only one thing went wrong. I didn’t put the egg whites in my lunch bag! So instead of having 1/4 cup refried beans, I upped it to 1/2 cup (3 poings) with 2 corn tortillas made into tortilla chips (2 points), 1/2 ounce cheddar cheese (1 point) with an orange sent from my MIL. 6 PointsPlus.
This orange is by far the best one I’ve had all year. When I first started peeling it, I thought “oh, its a ruby red grapefruit!” But it was an orange – so juicy!
I had every intention of working out at lunch. I’ve stated that I purposely take half the amount of insulin at breakfast, and eat a piece of fruit before working out. I ate the orange around 10:45 (with no insulin) and had to cover the front desk until noon. Around 11:30 I could feel the sweat start to drip, and I knew my blood sugar was dropping.
I had someone cover the phones and when I got to my desk, my blood sugar was 43. Rats! I ended up eating 3 mini Twix bars and 1/2 a chocolate chip cookie (10 PlusPoints!) to get it up to 100. Even at 100 that’s not enough to work out, so since I normally make Sunday my rest day, I am going to switch it this week.
Lunch was leftover beef stew – you can actually see one of the pieces of cauliflower – it kind of absorbed the beefy flavor – delicious! 8 PointsPlus.
I called Tony yesterday to tell him that I forgot to marinate the skirt steak for dinner. He ended up marinating it in olive oil and lots of garlic. My first thought was to use our cast iron grill pan and get it screaming hot, but it smokes up the whole house. So I did it in our cast iron skillet – we both missed the charred marks, but it was tender and delicious. And because it was so thin, it cooked up in just a couple minutes.
I had 1/2 cup of rice with red bell pepper and basil (3 points), asparagus (0), and 3 ounces of skirt steak (5 points). 8 Flex Points.
I want to thank Ally for her wonderful giveaway win – check out my Christmas loot!
Can I tell you how stoked I am to have this cookie cutter?! Can you believe I’ve never had a snowman cookie cutter before?
Stats for Thursday:
- 32 points used
- 0 flex points remain
- 30 activity points no used
- average blood sugar 90
So what are you plans for the weekend? While Hannah’s shopping is all done, wrapped and under the tree (shocker!) I haven’t even started my Christmas shopping. But I can usually do it all in one day – at least I have a plan!
So I have lot’s of cookies to make, brittle to make for my cookie exchange at work on Monday. We are also having an ugly sweater contest on Monday too – so a trip to the thrift store is in order. And then on Sunday Hannah and I are going to my Mom’s church holiday dinner on Sunday night. Should be a bizzy weekend!
Have a great Friday and weekend and I’ll see you on Monday – come back on Monday for a delicious pasta fagioli soup recipe! 😀
I almost forgot my Hot 100 Update! So tomorrow is my first official weigh in after the first week of WW. I think I did well – I haven’t gone over my points, I’ve exercised, but I still feel like I am eating a lot. Come back Monday for the recap! 😀
Lucky me had other plans so I didn’t have to watch my 49ers get spanked! Bet you watched a LOT of the MMA!
Hi Biz, thanks for visiting my blog earlier. You have a very interesting site. I’ll browsing around after this. Thanks for sharing so many wonderful stuffs here. Hope you’re having a wonderful day.
Blessings, Kristy
A red orange? What kind of orange is that? It sounds like it’d be the sweetest little thing ever.
you’re doing great with the program, soon as the holidays are over, i’m back on the wagon!
I missed you to pieces! Everything looks delish as usual. 🙂 And everyone should have a snowman cookie. What have you been thinking woman. lol.
Snowmen rock. 😀
I’m excited to see how week 1 on the new WW plan went! I’m sure you did great! Good luck with your Christmas shopping…you’re more of a procrastinator than me! 🙂
So happy your holiday gift arrived safely! Doesn’t take long from Iowa to Illinois:) Enjoy!
I can’t wait to hear how you did on your first weigh in! Great job on the food and making those points count!
Lucky you, all of your Christmas shopping can be done in one day! How do you do that?
Yum on the grapefruit. I was taking some for lunch during the week, and I managed to forget I have a student that is allergic to oranges. She came into the room and panicked and so I said Oh no, but it was grapefruit and she does not know if she is allergic to grapefruit too (middle schooler) but the smell was killing her. I felt so bad because that is usually me who the smells bother with my allergies…but the one I can tolerate is grapefruit…go figure. I should go eat the last of mine now. Have a good weekend.
Send me some of those breakfast nacho’s please!!!!!!!
Josh and I agree on MOST shows, but we do have quite random taste. LOVE the sing off, football, real housewives, the office/community/parks & rec, Kendra, Glee and Tosh.O. I HAVE to try those breakfast nachos. Seriously, I’m usually all about anything that involves refried beans 🙂 Good luck at the weigh in
Good luck with WI tomorrow!
That beef stew looks awesome!
I have some shopping to do and John has to take me out for winning the football picks 😀
Love that you wont the football picks! I was going strong the first six weeks – um, now? Not so much!
Good luck at the weigh-in – hope you get some good news!
I’m running 8 miles tomorrow and then I will do my Christmas cards. Or not. 😉 I am all done with shopping and wrapping, except for a few more stocking stuffers, so that’s good.
Pasta fajoli AND a snowman cookie cutter? Sounds like a great day!
Was that a blood orange? I’ve had one before but I thought it was darker. Holy moly your food looks good. I mean, licking my lips good.
Fortunately, my husband and I have the same tastes in television (we watch way too much). He is such a kind man and always lets me pick what to watch next. I think it’s just easier for him that way.
good luck on your weigh-in 🙂
Nope – I asked my MIL the same thing, but its a Florida orange – delicious!
It’s so hard to come though here and not leave starvin marvin. My mental games go nuts at your foodscapes. Good luck on the WW. I’ll be lurking and watching.
I LOVE the idea of breakfast nachos! Do you have the recipe on your blog somewhere? I would love to post it on the Camp Endeavor (weight management camp for kids) blog!
Let me know!
I don’t know how myself or the husband survived without the DVR! I go to bed early, so I record all my shows and watch them during the day while toddler man is napping, and Spencer stays up late so he watches all of his shows. It’s a win win 🙂
Dang, that was an orange?! Awesome!! I had a ruby red grapefruit this morning. Heaven on my plate.
Jen
I can’t believe you’ve never had a Snowman CC! 🙂 Which reminds me, I need to make some sugar cookies….
I used to ALWAYS wait until the last minute to Christmas shop. I kind of loved the pressure and rush of it all! Good luck with your shopping….I need to wrap all mine this weekend (eek)!
I’ll call you tomorrow when I wake up to see how you did… Good luck, I think you did awesome this week.
I will be snoozing while you are at your meeting!
We have TWO DVRs and could not imagine life without them! We don’t watch anything live anymore. Top Chef makes me want to eat but I love it anyways.
J and I usually watch the same shows. We don’t really like the same types of movies, though – go figure! The cookie cutter’s cute! I have a snowman one too. I just made snowman and Christmas tree Corky Crisps for everybody’s dogs this Xmas! hehe
I have so much to do this weekend, too, and we’re going to Pittsburgh to visit my husband’s family to celebrate Christmas! Not sure when the rest of my shopping is supposed to get done……..
You’ve done great this week – good luck at your meeting tomorrow!
Hi Biz, good luck at weigh in. Have a great weekend, and I’ll be back on Monday for the recap!!!
I so love the pictures you post all the time. The meals you make and share. Some of it just plain amazes me.
Good luck with you WW meeting. It’s fun to read what you’ve been doing. Keep up the great work.
Take care and have a blessed day today. A terrific and rest full weekend too.
Have a great weekend too Julie – 😀
Gah. Is Tony’s real name Mr. Helen? Seriously, we come home from the dojo… where we have just been participating in MMA and what does he do? Watch MMA (and football).
My shopping and wrapping is done too! Go Hannah!
This is my baking weekend although I am cutting way back this year. I asked Little Helen and Mr. Helen what the one thing they wanted was and that’s what I’m doing. Plus Chex Mix. I’ll be singing Charlie’s Chex Mix song.
Ha – love it you’ll be doing the Charlie Chex Mix! 😀
I just know that you weigh-in will show your hard work.
Thanks Janet! 😀
My husband and I do not have the same tastes in TV, though it sounds like Tony & Ray would be fine together 🙂 Ray always watches football and MMA. I don’t mind it too much, but I prefer shows like Top Chef, Glee, Modern Family..you get the picture 🙂
I have been craving steak and yours looks sooo good, now I may have to go buy one for tomorrow!
I thought that was a ruby red, too!
You’ve done great this week, Biz! Good luck at WI tomorrow!
The orange looks awesome! My kids freaked out a little when they got a grapefruit colored orange.
Hubs and I don’t really watch the same TV shows. He’s all about the science fiction stuff and I’m not. Most of our TV watching now is through Netflix and Hulu. Not a lot of new shows that I watch. Just no time!
