My breakfast this morning was a bit ecclectic – as I read Jillian’s breakfast suggestion, she suggested putting protein powder in cottage cheese with walnuts. Hum. The only protein powder I had was chocolate based, but I gave it a shot – it was AWFUL! So on to plan B:
- 1/2 cup cottage cheese
- 8 walnuts
- 1/3 cup flax seed pumpkin granola
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 an orange
Breakfast comes in at 422 calories, 17 fat and 49 carbs.
So yesterday I had my yearly eye exam and all is well! Now I am going to stand on my soap box for a minute – anyone with diabetes, or knows someone with diabetes – I suggest urge you to get a comprehensive eye exam and tell your eye doctor you have diabetes so you get the appropriate tests done – especially to test for diabetic retinopathy. This is especially important if you are newly diagnosed, or young, so that the eye doctors have a good picture of what your healthy eye looks like, to compare it down the road as you age.
My eye doctor said my 3-D exam showed no change from last year due to “tight blood glucose control.” Nice! My blood sugar numbers have been extremely consistent this past year (due in part to my new endocronologist!) and my 30 day BS average is 113!!
After 20 years of diabetes, nearly all patients with type 1 diabetes (which I am now) and 60% of patients with type 2 diabetes have some degree of retinopathy and a diabetic is 25 times more likely to go blind than a person in the general population.
So watch your blood sugars, exercise, and get yearly eye exams! Okay, I am climbing off my soap box now! 😀
When I got home from my eye doctor appointment, I did Jillian’s 50 minute workout. It is so hard, but I am about 92% able to do the whole thing without stopping. But I am spent for about an hour afterwards! I even needed Hannah to help me lift the garbage to throw it outside!
Okay, morning break is over – come back for lunch – roast beef and avocado wrap! I am also doing shred with my co-workers today!! See you later!
Amen to your eye tangent! My friend who is diabetic ended up having to get glasses almost immediately after she was diagnosed but she manages it now. Glad your exam went well 🙂
I’m so glad that things went well at the eye doctor. I think you are a great example of how each person, diabetic or not, should take care of themselves in order to better their health. I’m inspired by you! We all have preventive checks that we should have done, and I’m not always the best at getting myself to the doctor unless I’m sick.
Thanks for setting such a great example!
i’m glad the eye exam went well! and great job on the 50 minute workout!
