Hannah and I didn’t get home from my Mom’s house until almost 11:00 last night – we were so tired! But we also had a lot of fun. Whenever members of my family get together, we just laugh and laugh. Tony doesn’t get the “unseen humor” most of the time! They plan on going to Blue Man’s Group in Chicago this afternoon and then dinner at Weber Grill.
My Mom ended up making a big pot of Chicken Brunswick Stew for dinner. The only difference between hers and mine is that I puree my tomatoes (hers is more chunky) and she adds lima beans. It was really good though. But I have to rectify one thing about my Mom’s kitchen. She has no Tabasco sauce! The only hot sauce she had was Louisiana hot sauce, while good, is not Tabasco!
It’s also fun to go back to my Mom’s house and see some things that have been around since I was little! I give you the circa 1970 jar opener!
And I had this to drink:
And this to eat. Does anyone recognize the pattern on the bowl??
I didn’t wake up until 9:30 this morning! I have a few things to do before meeting up with my sister and our twin friends this afternoon. I need to bake my bread for tomorrow, make cranberry coconut muffins for BSI, only a couple loads of laundry, and do a bit more research on lamb recipes. I had no idea how big a leg of lamb was – they were like 10 pounds! I ended up getting a lamb sirloin roast – about 4 pounds. My thought is to score the fat side and put fresh rosemary and garlic cloves inside so the fat kind of bastes the lamb whale it cooks. We’ll see!
Not sure if I’ll have another post today – depends on what time I get home tonight. Hope everyone has a great Saturday!! It looks like its going to be a nice day here finally!
Haha, I love the picture of the dish. My grandmother still uses those! I grew up with those.
